  • Cool vid...

  • hahaha, creepy guy.

  • I would actually get shot if I did this. Santa Monica must be nice... Oh well, I keep love for Baltimore regardless.

  • this is creepy

  • @erick: Thanks for the vid and congrats to you choice! M9+SX35 is the best for street photography. Open aperture a little - you won't need more than 5.6 even f/4 is enough most of the times.

@Suunyu: Just do it. I did several times and nobody was angry! Was around in Porto, Guimarães, V'na do Castelo and had nice captures on the streets every time!

  • How can I make these in portugal? We have more less people in our cities if I do this to a strange i think they will kick my ass xD

  • This is the first real view I've had of street photography. Thank you for opening my eyes!

  • How do you focus? You cant even see the square in the middle

  • Hey Erick do you get in trouble shooting little children? you seem like a fun and smiling character, just wondered if there had been any incidents, this is a great video series, keep making more.

  • you have big balls to shoot at kid's faces! surely they can be great and sweet photos, but wow, at least here in Europe you can get a lot of troubles by doing that. anyway, 85% of the people in the video are so so so gentle!! :D awesome video, big balls, great photos man. greetings from Spain

  • I like your daughter's pussy ... I mean PUPPY, puppy ... I like what you're wearing too ... what is that - a Smith & Wesson 9mm ?? Hey, good shot man !!

  • Great video Erick. People on the west coast are so chill. I'm pretty sure I'd get punched in the face if I tried this in Boston.

  • its not going like this in turkey

  • I'm so doing this next time I'm out with my M6

  • if someone came up to me with a leica i would be all like, "WHOA YOU HAS AN M9 CAN I PLAY WITH IT?!?!?!"

  • why shoot ISO 800 on a bright day? good video!

  • ho hum I need a nap now

  • That's Santa Monica for you. Try doing this in Watts or South Central.

  • @biawak99 He would probably get the same response. Not everybody in Watts or South Central is a gang member.

  • like the way u taking pictures

  • Love your style, I like the tourist excuse. That's a bit harder to get away with in northern England! @coolhand6656 what you you use this camera for? Taking pictures of flowers and swans?

  • Oh... the viewfinder flares out @ 2:27

  • $10,000 Camera/lens wasted on a putz with no talent.

  • @coolhand6656 Eric has some very impressive work on his website, well I am eager to see ur work man

  • @coolhand6656 People are fast to judge in internet without using their brain, this is a typical example.

  • Why using 800 ISO on a sunny day ? Especially when your shutter speed is that high !

  • @madmat13 i m guessing he s using a very closed down aperture to get the max focus zone, cuz the camera's focus is basically set fixed. and the very high shutter speed is just to freeze the movement cuz his hand would be shaking while him and the subjects moving, plus, iso800 on m9 is ok clean :)

  • Yep but I guess it would have work at 400 or even 200 ISO , this just means slowing down the shutter speed by a bit, but yeah iso800 on M9 is probably all right ;)

  • @madmat13 If you actually watch the video he says why.

  • @madmat13 I believe he was not able to perform manual focus with the iphone attached to the view finder. Therefore, he got to pump up the ISO to push down the aperture in order to get wider depth of field. It's called zone-focusing

  • @ngso0009 Didn't think of that ! Thanks for pointing it out ! Wish I had the 1/4000 speed on my M6 sometimes...

  • @madmat13 I wish my pentax slr has 1/4000 too :(

  • When you're doing street photography do you stay in the viewfinder or watch for things from outside?

  • Very cool!

Is there a link to the photos? Looked on your blog and didn't see any :-(

    via petapixel

  • My friend wants to do this, but he keeps chickening out and taking them from a far. He claims that because his camera isn't a leica or Canon or anything he won't get as good pictures. Just because you own a Leica doesn't mean you're a great photographer, it means you're a leica owner.

  • I want to see some of the pictures!

  • hope to see the outputs

  • Even if the pictures came out blurry, PLEASE post them somewhere! And MORE videos like this, they are AWESOME!!

  • @heftigpro how could his photos come out blurry? his shutter speed was like 1/2000th the ENTIRE time...

  • @keytarjunkie I don't know if you noticed or know, the Leica M9 (as any Leica M) is a manual focus camera, and Eric didn't focus his camera while filming this. And by blurry I mean "out of focus", not motion blur.

Besides, on his blog he said he didn't include the photos BECAUSE they were out of focus.

Anyway, still such an awesome video!

  • @heftigpro sorry, blurry usually refers to motion blur, I thought that's what you meant. Typically with Leicas and wider lenses, most people scale-focus, which is obviously not a perfect solution but if you're stopped down at all you won't have any issues with focus blur.

  • friendly people haha

  • that's a cool and friendly place, haha

  • @ReindeerForest Haha indeed. I tried it a few minutes ago for the first time and of course she had to bitch...

  • How did the picture of the kid come out?

  • Did you post the photos taken somewhere?

  • 8:42 .. hahaha you're so experienced.

  • Like the "attitude" at 8:42 ;-)

  • inb4 beta shitstorm

  • The whole compliment everyone you photograph style looks interesting, might try that and be a little more agressive in the way I shoot.

  • all those ppl should be proud because they's photo been take with very expensive amera and lens

  • Maybe after this video the people who think that street photography is a form of rape or something similar would see that most people are just fine with their picture being taken.

  • Whooaaaaa, that kid. :D

  • Wait you're holding your iPhone to the viewfinder whilst taking photos? Thats some crazy ninja shit right there - how do you focus?

Would love to seethe photos come up on screen a second after taken!
