  • I love this with my lithium

  • My folks played this album to put us to sleep as kids in the 70's My dad had a cheap ass stereo with horrible speakers that had no bass and tin sharp treble. I came to appreciate this record years later. It takes me back to a simpler time. Some little boy trying to fall asleep in a nameless subdivision somewhere in Minnesota.

  • This was the first record I ever owned, my dad bought it for me, it cost 4 shillings and 10d

    Thank you for posting.

  • Just beautiful and relaxing. Glass of wine, fireplace going, snowing outside, so peaceful.

  • Yes, a strange sound and so familiar...

I was born in the 50's, I believe this tune was part of the musical environment in the 50's and 60*s.

  • Sounds like the music they put on transferred 8mm film.

  • Medication Time!!!

  • awesome

  • @cjmarsicano Thats a skratching turntable, Numark TT isn't it?

  • Here is one of my claims to fame... My uncle Jock Bain is playing trombone in this. He worked with Johny Douglas and Mantovani. He also did soundtrack music for Thunderbirds and Pinky and Perky amongst other things. Sadly missed he is....

  • This reminds me of my Dad........

  • @nickelback1955 reminds me of my dad too.

  • dear nylon TS, it is unbelieveble; my did too!!! Died in1955 whwn i was 5 years old; but my mom told me!

  • Juicy Fruit........Chief

  • Apart from the wonderful sound of the strings, Mantovani's music always included excellent solo pieces from various instruments. Whoever did his musical arrangements did a marvellous job bringing out the best in the vast number of tunes he covered over the years - as lovely today as it was yesterday

  • One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

  • @Yosemite7777777 Medication time, medication time.

  • @Yosemite7777777 Yes, and also "The Green Mile." One writer referred to the sound-world of Mantovani's "Charmaine" as "Christian Heaven on a Hollywood Sound Stage." In "The Green Mile," this music is meant to drawn a parallel between the madhouse of "Cuckoo's Nest" and the asylum of convalescent living in the "old folks' home" scene. What's interesting to me is how LUSH this music is, esp being that sterility is what we value in our "institutions." The great dystopian irony I guess.

  • Mantanvoni perfected the "101 Strings" concept, and every one of them was put to good use in this remake of a 1928 vocal classic. Heard in many films, including 1999's "Green Mile."

  • Just close your eyes and let this beautiful song take you wherever you may want to go, especially with the world 's problems of today, it's magic.....

  • I had to turn the volume down a little so some of the boys could have a little conversation, y'know what I mean? Also the World Series is coming up, so how bout if we change the schedule a bit and get that TV switched on, what'd you say to that?

  • IF ANYONE HAS HIS VERSION OF "LET ME CALL YOU

    SWEETHEART," PLEASE PLEASE POST!!! THANKS!!!!!

  • My Dad loved listening to Mantovani. It,s haunting music yes,but weird,NO

  • Ah! this piece. Life seems good!

    xx_x_x

  • This track is heard in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest when Nurse Ratched distributes pills: "Medication time. Medication time."

  • Fantastic, I used to use this record to test my recording equipment

  • Hey my name is Charmaine!

    <3<3<3<3<3

So in love with this song too, I play the violin so I just love classical music.

Ah, my life is complete now.

    Thank you for posting this.

    :D

  • @nyuteme I Love It! If I ever had another little girl, I would name her Charmaine! I play it on my piano, not classical, but fun ...:)

  • this ones for you Vera played at your funeral today god bless you r.i.p. we will all miss you

  • Great music video! I've posted some similar

just in cast you might possibly be interested.

  • Lovely upload, thank you

  • interesting, and disturbing waltz.

  • My father taught me to waltz (on his feet) to this as a little girl. Haunting - and now he is a in a High Care Dementia home with Alzheimer's - I understand some of the comments. I wish he can remember this...and me. Love you my Pete.

  • It's like a opening old photo album.

I hope someone puts a better recording.

  • Bravo that is the song farvoriete from my mother.

  • Mantovani records sorrily have a very low value, even if they are in Mint condition, which proves that this type of music is underappreciated! Go to a Goodwill Store, ocassionally you can find a Mantovani LP or two for just a buck! This is better understood as "modern classical".

  • "It's medication time! Medication time!"

  • nylonTS

my heart missed a beat when I saw your message,

I'm a dad and a very old one too and I enjoy this music very much and have done for many years and hope to for a few more yet.

If your Dad enjoyed it as much as I do .... well then he was a very happy man.

    kind regards

  • Cascading violins.... like waterfalls.

  • This reminds me of my dad.. now gone... the music is like waterfalls in my mind.. is this crazy?

  • @nickelback1955 It is the farthest away from crazy you can possibly get. And "waterfalls in my mind" is such a lovely metaphor.

  • @nickelback1955 - Yep, it is crazy. But who wants to be boringly regular?

  • memories of sitting in the cinema in the fifties and early sixties, they always played this between films

  • I never knew there were so many songs named charmaine..

  • I can no longer hear the music.... I only see the strobe of the turntable - take my wallet- take my prizes- just don't block my view of the turntable.... I will be back

  • I LOVE THIS!!!

  • desde mexico un saludo, para usted, gracias por darnos un momento de gloria en este mundo tan lleno de dolor,

  • Beautiful yes, but I've always found this music strangely disturbing. Unnerving and unsettling and strange.

    But I don't know why.

  • @EASYTIGER10 I believe that you may have found this disturbing because it was used in one of those depressing scenes in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when Nurse Ratchit is overseeing the patients.

  • @tye522002 This performance of Charmaine has been used to enhance the atmosphere of the institution in at least two films I can think of: the "insane asylum" in "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Next" and the retirement-home scene at the beginning of "The Green Mile."

  • @EASYTIGER10 completely agree

  • @EASYTIGER10 Do you mean sort of eerie? yes i do agree,,

  • @EASYTIGER10 it was used in ONE FLEW OVER THE KOOKOO's NEST

  • @EASYTIGER10 Echoes of loney time forgotten or never experienced past.

  • Bellissimo.

  • Thank you for sharing this beautiful music . Best wishes to all you lovely people named Charmaine.

  • my dad used to play this too, conjours up a whole load of lovely memories

  • !!!Que bella melodía!!!...es un deleite para el alma y una alegría para el coprazón....

  • This is ethereal music only the heavens can create....

  • A real beauty to be sure: it's an evergreen perennial in the easy listening department

  • Toca no fundo da nossa alma!

  • OMG this is music guys....for heart and soul!

  • BITCH!

  • Timeless,scintillating and transcendental.

  • thats my name! ... <.<*

  • What can be said about Mantovani...being repetitive, but 'Superb' and the video is

creativity with an A+. Thank you!

  • You fooled them all, Chief.

  • anyone please tell me what "charmanie" means? is it an Italian name without meaning? thank you

  • @trinhmedia My name is Charmaine. ^_^ Whenever I've looked it up, Charmaine has Anglo Saxon orgin (British) and it means bountiful orchard.

  • @chibikyo7 Do you have lots of kids? Sorry, I couldn't resist...no offense intended.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 lol. No I don't have any children. I'm not offended. Have you seen any of my youtube videos because I think I look to young to have kids, infact most people think I'm underage when I'm 20. lol.

  • My Father loved this tune

    RIP Dad xx

    Thank you for posting it

  • My late father loved this tune too, Mantovani was great.

  • it's realy emotional.

I need it for my ''Facharbeit'' in ''Politische Bildung''.

  • It's beautiful! Thx for posting this. I was named after this piece of music. My mom & dad used to dance to it. Although I believe it was the Frank Sinatra version. You wouldn't happen to have that would you?

    : )

  • This song was also used in The Green Mile" and in the just released "It's "Complicated" bizzare ain't it?

  • Did you use a turntable with a USB plug? Just curious. I remember I used to hear this on the non-rock am stations years ago(1962-1968). Or my parents stations. Then it kind of disappeared. Only to be resurrected in the movie "One flew over the cuckoo's nest." The film was to take place in 1963. And I said to myself while hearing it as background music in the ward, "Yep...that's what was playing back then". I was glad hear again. I missed hearing it. Things change.

  • My favorite also

  • Will always be my favorite............

  • What a relaxing melody.

  • this is one of those songs where I make a really silly and reminiscent face, then heave long, lovestricken sighs as I daydream~

  • reminds me of Butlins pwllheli on summer saturday mornings in the 50,s,luggage lugging ,this song drifting over the scent of roses, happy happy days.

  • I adore these sweeping strings-and I'm not gay!!!

  • But you must be pretty worried that someone will think you are! What a perfectly asinine comment.

  • Reference to Monty Python's Flying Circus?

  • @WtfItzHuy : "Charmaine" was used twice by "Monty Python" -- once during a skit in which a beautiful woman lures a milkman upstairs to her bedroom, and then in a clip in which soccer players score a goal and then celebrate by embracing each other.

  • Me too! AND I'm gay!!!!!

  • I love this song , very beautiful

  • Refreshing, smoothly and relaxingly beautiful. Thanks for posting.

    @hcarducci

  • I believe they were "The cascading strings" this was a very unique way to play the pieces and still holds the magic it did when I was knee-high to a grasshopper!

  • Our good music station used to feature this enchanting recording regularly...alas, years and years ago. Nowadays, there's nothing to compare with the Mantovani magic. So relaxing, so peaceful, so beautiful!

  • Thankyou - another favourite of mine.

  • Timeless! I wasn't born until the 1970's but I found many an opportunity to rifle through my grandparents records when I visited them and that was when I discovered Mantovani. What a treasured gift he was to our ears. I must admit also that hearing his work on vinyl is the best way to experience his masterful pieces.
