This really looks awful. The c64 version BLOWS IT OUT OF THE WATER! Why are the enemies translucent? I guess they wanted to avoid the terrible color clash that this machine is famous for.
@christo930 Having played most versions of RI, I have to disagree with you there. The Speccy's visuals were never anything special, sure (Speccy owners were used to that!), and the C64 version looked OK (but not THAT great, considering the C64's capabilities), but in terms of playability, the Speccy version was, IMO, second only to the arcade-perfect Amiga version. By comparison, the C64 version was clunky and unresponsive to play. Even the Amstrad version topped it. A big disappointment.
@fatglyn If you REALLY want to be impressed, check out the TG-16 CD version. It's pretty much arcade perfect AND has the real music (the funky version of somewhere over the rainbow). IMHO, the turbo-cd version is the best home version. The 64 version isn't bad. The Amiga version is great, but suffers from a single button joystick. I find it much more enjoyable to play the Amiga version on an emulator with the up JS remapped to a button.
@christo930 Have to admit, I haven't played the TG version - that's another one for the "to do" list! Totally agree with you about one-button joysticks - totally impractical for platformers. I used a Comp Pro joypad with my old Amiga. Still one-button, but jumping was a bit more precise.
@fatglyn If you like this game you owe to yourself to get the TG-16 CD version of this game. Absolutely the best version out there, the only exception being the arcade version.
I had the Amiga version of this. really interesting to see other versions. I wonder how many conversions was done for different computers at the time?
loads.. grafgold who did the conversions were VERY under rated.. pity Braybrook / Turner don't work on games now.although thir own stuf is well known , uridiium, paradriod etc.

aren't you a bit late reviewing a game that was in shops 15 years ago? i didn't see the spectrum section in the shops. perhaps i didn't look carefully enough. i saw xbox360. is that any good?
Just read on Wiki that an Amiga version of the game Snow Bros was completed in 1991, but was not released by the publisher Ocean Software. The original master copy of the game was found in 2006, and the disk image has been distributed online. So it was on the Amiga - Kind of?!
Yes it was abandoned. It was released for free at the site "Amiga games that weren't" last year. That makes it the only computer version of the game. The other three versions are for consoles.
Bubble Bobble was a brilliant game - Spent loads of 10p's in the arcades on that game! There was another similar game called "Super Snow Brothers" i think? Was Bubble Bobble or Snow Bros ever released on the Spectrum or any of the home consoles?

Bubble Bobble was released on the Speccy, but not Snow Bros.

bubble bobble is on the spectrum like schnitz1 said - and can i just add - the spectrum wasnt a console - it was a personal computer

...basically...
...as you can see...
I see that the enemies become the hurry up-whales from Bubble Bobble when they die. I read somewhere that this is a follow-up in some way.

it's a sequel, although obviously not all that similar graphically. It's quite similar well you think about how each games work.
