  • Good playing. It's one of my favourite ragtime songs.

  • Love your touch. However, as aadvaark069 already mentioned, it's a little heavy on the sustaining pedal. I don't really hear the syncopated ragtime feel of the music coming out as much because of the extensive use of the pedal; it's just sounding a little too muddy at the moment. But good job!

  • Now I decided to obtain some of Lamb`s sheet music :-)

  • id rather watch your right hand than this horrible blue curtain

  • thank you for playing this lamb classic so that others may hear it

  • Alittle heavy on the sustain if you were to ask me. But what do I know? Max Morath recorded the best performance of this piece I ever heard. You play it well but, Lord a mighty you need to work on that pedaling!

  • Very nicely played. Smooth and not too fast. This is one of the most beautiful rags and you do a really good job bringing out it's inherent lyricism.

  • did you put a cement block on the sostenuto pedal whilst playing this rag ??

  • this song is favorite of mine that I play on the guitar. There's a part of me that likes to hear rags on the guitar more than piano. I know they're composed for piano. But at times they sound goofy. I like this song slowed down a bit more. It's an elegant tune. It's a misconception to think all rags should be played fast. Two other great Lamb rags are "Ragtime Nightengale" and "American Beauty".

  • @vardamin each rag, just like any other kind of music, determines its own tempo. You have to pick a tempo that both sounds and feels good to you, and then you will sound the most natural interpreting the tune. If you pick a tempo that you are uncomfortable with, then your rendition will sound uncomfortable! I have heard rags played "too slow" and "too fast", but I think some of that effect has to do with the confidence of the performer, and also with their ability, and musical taste.

  • @KawhackitaRag the 2/4 timing of this song is just asking me to be as lyrical as I can be. I play it on a guitar so the arrangement has a life of it's own, and I don't like to rush this tune. 'Sunburst Rag' has got a little more ummphh! to it. I like your comments about 'comfort' cause yes! playing rags is all about being relaxed. Playing rags is all about feeling comfortable and relaxed.

  • well played! nice touch

  • Nice Cabinet Grand.

  • It sounds perfect ^^ slowly, peacefully...that's how classic rag has been made to sound!

    Thanks!!

  • I've seen this rag rated as fairly difficult rag to play. Is it true?

  • I don't know whether it is true or not. I think that it depends on pianist's skill. It is not fairly difficult for me to play this. However, it is not easy. I practiced hard to play this.

  • I would rate it about 4 on a scale of 5, with 5 being the most difficult. I consider myself a moderately advanced pianist, and it took me several weeks before I got it right.

  • This is a beautiful. Late ragtime-era pieces are underrated.

  • Nice! And the improvisation you posted earlier too!

  • a beautiful=beautiful

  • Awesome. Not enough Joseph Lamb on here.
