Kitty I made a Thicknessing Caliper if purchased $150 to $170 Standard caliper $50 to $75. I made a graduation punch. I made a contour gauge. This is used to check arching. A neck angle gauge is easy to make but you can purchase one for $10 to $20 Sound post gauge around $15. A short scale (metric ruler) under $5 and a long scale $10 and up. Compass and dividers under $10. You could probably find all of these for half the price or around $125. Chris
Hello, I am currently starting up my violin making/repair workshop. I've been learning from a master repairman in the area on how to fix violins, but only recently have I started the process of making them. The only problem I have is the cost of tools. Did you make a good deal of your measuring and thicknessing instruments, or did you purchase them? If you did purchase them, what sort of price would you think it would cost for the essentials? I'm estimating about $500.
