The gunwhale (side of the boat) looks to be pretty low where they are pulling the pots aboard. It's well below waist height, it looks pretty easy to fall over the side.

In Scotland most people have switched to having bait bags in the pots to stop the seals stealing the bait. The bait goes in a bag fitted to the mesh of the pots and is held closed when u secure the door closed. It seems to work quite well.

actually it doesn't. i don't know where you get your information, but that never happens. seals don't even swim that deep. they stick to the surface and eat small fish like pollack, mackerel, herring, etc. I've been around this stuff my whole life, so I would know. the only problem we have with seals is the environmentalists trying to convince people of exactly what you said which isn't true. i've only seen/heard of one dead seal, and it was a tourist boating accident that killed it.

okay, say they are good riddance. So let's say you catch a seal trying to get into one of your traps, you look all around and there's no one, so you shoot it. Say there's a lobsterman and all he does is take up space, he never takes care of his traps, he gets tangled up with everyone else. Do you shoot him? No, you cut off his gear and drive him out. There are bigger problems than the seals. Don't give EPA or NMFS any reason to say, "hey, fishermen don't care about the animals in the ocean."

Many seal populations are threatened because their prey, many commercially important fish, are themselves threatened. Other populations that have been growing because their natural predators, the Orca, have been pushed to the brink of extinction themselves.

Nothing, but it usually goes out clear. Sometimes it does tangle though, the wrong pot goes off, makes for a nice mess
