It wasn't a case of her wanting to leave the show. The character development of Shane meant that she had to, really. Sarah did get another job almost immediately afterwards though as Detective Dani Reese on the NBC show "Life" which is quite good if you're a Sarah fan!

I'm a Media Student and for my thesis I did The L Word with my major studies being Sarah Shahi and Laurel Holloman. As far as I've looked into it, she was happy leaving the show based on the content of the season. It was a tidy end to Carmen and it provoked a reaction.

Sarah wasn't really in the zone to choose it was written that way and she approved it. Nothing as sinister as choosing, I don't think.

Since then it's widened her fan base so now she's choosing all of her roles. Lucky her!

@Nilshaira I think she hated the script, there was an event just before season 4 started preproduction where Ilene and Sarah assured Carmen was still on the show, just after that Sarah was out, I think Ilene did something stupid to the character and Sarah just didn´t wanted to do it. It was smart because Carmen is next to Dana the most missed character of the show and only God knows what kind of fuckery Ilene came with to make Sarah leave.

Sarah said so herself that this series has given her the privilege to choose roles.. I mean she got lots of fans from here.. and that is all of us.. so she got the Detective offer.. she chose that.. and so no Sharmen.. but we cannot blame her right? she is straight so an offer of a LEAD in life (one of the main character) being a detective and then Carmen.. so I guess she chose the other one. They date again... and you never know, they might actually marry for real this time! ...I like to think that's what happens...
