Oh, I remmeber watching this in the 90s, I didn't understand it course, but I remembered it when I read Wyrd Sisters. Terry Pratchett is quite the literary genius.
Terry Pratchett's Discworld universe has quite a fanbase, and news travels fast and far in it. Besides, I think the movies, animated and real alike, were all done by the BBC and therfor got probably some trailer time in British TV.
Thank Christ they got Christopher Lee to voice Death in the Colour of Magic TV Film, that guy in Hogfather was rubbish. You can see in this how brilliant he is
i agree that christopher lee makes a fabulous death but ian richardson did an equally fantastic job in hogfather and the reason that they didn't use him for colour of magic was because he sadly died before the hogfather was released, hence it being dedicated to him.
He's not used to so many people being able to see him at once. Usually only the deceased sees him, but right now lots of people expect to see Death on stage, and so they can see him. This unnerves him.

Monstrosity? Hmmm....obviously not a literary fan we're dealing with here.
Here's a plan: go to a bookstore, ask for any book by Terry Pratchett, read it and laugh your ass off at the social commentary.
THEN
Come back and watch this cartoon. If it still isn't funny to you, you take the world too seriously.
