  • Wow I was too stupid to realise how to do this while it was very simple. I already knew how to pan videos and such, but this didn't come to my mind. Many tutorials tell you to use Track motion which sucks as it shrinks the whole track rather than just the clip you want to, and the result doesn't come out good if you render in a different resolution. This is exactly what I wanted. Thank you very much! :D

  • pookieftw...pookie for the win is right! dude your the man, i have been struggling with a friend of mine for the past 6 hours trying to combine seperate videos into a split screen. Your guide was literally perfect took us 3minutes to sync 3 videos after watching this. Best tutorial i think ive watched will have a video of this up soon. Thank you very much...a video that actually makes sense! Great Tutorial!

  • thank you sssooo much for this big pook

  • Great tutorial ! Thanks ;)

  • When I try to render to an avi file, the lengh of the video gets reduced randomly. The video was 3:26 min and I got 1:30! The 2nd time I tried I got a 13 seconds video. Would you know why that happens?

  • Select everything in the timeline then render

  • Great video, it really covered what i needed in the first couple minutes, then went so much further. It way exceeded my expectations!!!

  • That's very cool and well explain tutorial. I have a question hope you don't mind, whenever I split screen for one of my clips the other clips I am using also move along and I don't how to lock only the clips I want split and keep the other ones normal, can you please help out with this problem I will appreciate it alot.

  • In the tool bar at the top of the screen you have an option called "Event Grouping" turn that off and it should resolve the issue you are seeing.

  • Excellent tutorial. It's one of the only ones I could understand. Thank you!

  • Hey Pookie, you are a great editer using Sony Vegas, Do you know how to move the camera around? [diagnol and horizontal]

    Thanks.

    Mac.

  • There are 2 basic steps to accessing the 3D Composition/Track Motion. On the video track(left hand side) you have a track motion button (click it) and you have your composition mode (change it to 3D). You'll notice that you have an edit window that gives you X,Y, and Z positions. Then it's just a matter of playing around with it until you have the right effect. You can also change the depth of field which can come in really hand for making more advanced videos.

    Hope that helps.

    Pookie

  • Pookie helps us again!

    Thanks!

  • Pookie, I can't seem to get it to move to the sides, Could you please give me more advice for that?

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "Move to the sides"?

  • Thanks Pookie.

  • No problem :)

  • very helpful thanks

  • You're most welcome. Thanks.

  • Cookie cutter! THANK YOU! I am beta testing for a music video and got stuck lol.

  • No Problem.

  • how you get those koo backgrounds

  • All sorts of places. Some I created myself but most of them have come with various software I've tried. The rest, straight from the internet.

  • another great tutorial....learning more and more of the potential of vegas.....thanks pookie, hope to see more

  • :) Glad I could help.

  • man i suck with vagas... most of my luck comes from windows movie maker

  • Vegas is hard to learn because nothing is automated when you drag clips in. It's powerful though and there are many things that make it appealing. I hope you don't give up on it.

  • wow... thanks for that! i have so much i need to learn!

  • I'm glad I could help MrJamy1984

  • Thanks a lot you really have helped a lot!! This makes it look so simple! lol thanks once again you been a big help!

  • Glad to have been able to help. I'm no master at Vegas but I've picked up a few things over the years.

  • woot finally i know how

  • hahaha. It's a trick. When you try to do this it won't work hahahaha! j/k. I got your msg and will send an email response about how to blur.

  • I'd like to see some better blurring techniques - I notes I turn my self into a wicked amazon type create everytime I try to blur my face ;)

  • typos! typos! I meant "I noticed I turn into a creature ..." doh!

  • I love it when you give us these tips! I have Sony

Vegas too and I've learned just by dinkin' around with it; you have no idea how much I appreciate your tips so my "dinkin' around" will be more effective and interesting :) THANK YOU!

  • I've seen you use some really awesome effects on your videos lately. I'm guessing you have another nice software suite too. Do you mind if I ask what the other software is that you are using?

  • I have a love/hate relationship with Pinnacle Studios and I just bought Ulead too - been using that recently on my intros and exits; Ulead and Pinnacle are crashy, but good ;)

  • I actually use a combination of all 3 suites (after a serious reboot of my computer between runs) - I like different things form each and I do my vids in layers.

  • I had the same problem with Pinnacle. It kept crashing. I bought the full version of Pinnacle Studio 10 Platinum and it was buggy with my system. I have formated the computer since then but never reinstalled Pinnacle. I have yet to try the Ulead yet for video creation. I like how easy other Ulead products are though.

  • I need more memory, so I make sure I have defragged - I even remove unnecessary programs from the tast registry - then go at it; I can go straight to Sony Vegas after, but have to reboot if want to return to Ulead.

  • oops! I meant "task registry"

  • I've got a really good system (at least I think so). It wasn't a memory issue for me because I have 2 gigs of ram, but it may have been a conflict in my registry. The biggest issue I have is that I do so many different things all on the same computer I can really bog it down. I hope to build a new system in the next 6mo's or so. One just for Video and Audio. That should help.

  • If I increase the memory, it will help but not solve since I do the same thing you do; I do offload my videos to a 400GB IOMEGA so there's plenty of roll-over room - that helps too. Ulead has some pretty cool (and easy) effects built right in - I'm having fun playing with it. But Sony Vegas remains my favorite.

  • Sometimes I don't want to have to put a lot of work into a video. It's nice to have a program that will "auto" movie like windows. Unfortunately, windows output of the files is such poor quality, otherwise I would probably use it from time to time.

  • Ulead definately 'crashy' with me. I've taken to using Vegas since I bought the software.

  • The crashy part of it and Pinnacle drive me nuts; Sony Vegas is a superior product and it has a bit of a learning curve.

  • What I really like about Vegas is that it autosaves so the few times it has crashed on me (and I do mean few) I have been able to recover almost all the work I had done in short order.

  • That's true, even when it crashes - and it doesn't crash as often as Pinnacle or Ulead, it always saves, Ulead saves on it way out the door too :)

  • Thank you so much from a brand new Vegas user! As anewbie, I really appreciate your help! 5 helpful stars!

  • Always a pleasure my good friend.

  • Incredibly interesting stuff. Thanks Steve. By way, I closed the tabs at the bottom left for 'project media', 'video fx' etc., but can't get them back again. Any ideas?

  • They may just be hidden at the bottom still. Go to the bottom of the screen and see if it gives you an arrow to pull the windows back up. If not then you will have to go to VIEW at the top and check the items you want displayed again.

  • Thanks Steve, sorted - from the 'view' menu.

  • Glad that fixed it for you. I hid the windows once and I thought I had really screwed up. I reinstalled the software completely to fix the problem. A day or two after the reinstall I figured out what had happened. Let's just say I wasn't pleased at myself because it was such a simple solution.

  • A behind the scenes with Pookie. :) You are a very good sensei. Excellent tutorial. It's something I'd like to do with videos I've got in mind but just haven't got the software.

  • I hear ya. The software isn't cheap. I think I'll do some searching for cheap alternatives to Vegas. The only one I know right now of is Pinnacle Studio but it isn't nearly as good in my opinion.

  • wow..thats so awesome... I have never seen anything like that. I'm not most people. LOL

  • Thanks Jinxie. I hope you got someinthing out of it. I only wish the video quality could be better. Had to compress it because it was so dang long.
