an easier method is to take them to your local groom shop. At the grooming shop in our petsmart we have a thing called furminating the dogs. There undercoat is blown out with a high velocity dryer for a few minutes (it will produce twice the hair) and then they are washed with deshedding shampoo, rinsed and then we put furminating conditioner on the coat, let it sit for 10 mins and then blow it out again. After there all rinsed off and dryed, we use that tool to get the rest. Works wonders
I can relate. We had a malamute. He just died last week March 31, 2011 at 3:00 in the afternoon. What a horrible day that was. He was the center of our world.
In your video you are using a brush that really seems to work well. We always used a horse loop but never got results like you are getting.
@TheOtteroo I think it's the Furminator...according to many comments and vids on youtube, it's very good for brushing a dog when they blow their coat!
omg. my husky is turning 1 in a week and he just started shedding for the first time. it's nowhere near as bad as that...i had no clue. its fine though i kind of enjoy brushing him out.
Beautiful dog! Great of you to warn people too! Hopefully, less huskies will be left in shelters because people did not realize that they shed so much! You are a great huskie owner! I am glad I have a greyhound, though...lol Great eyes!
I am in Atlanta, Georgia and I have had Huskies for about 14 years - and have never heard the phrase "blowing his coat"!! Maybe I used the word "shed" - so the vet does also!! Mine blow their coat every month - except June, July, August!! The little twigs of fur make my backyard look like many chickens have been slaughtered!!! Mine HATE to be brushed -- but about once a month -- I brush them -- and we are not friends for a few days!!! We "make-up" over pig ears - they love em!!
I have never heard the phrase "blowing his coat"? Is that from England and Europe? In America we call it shedding - and Huskies are undefeated world champions in shedding!! I live in Atlanta and my 2 huskies, shed for about 9 months -- I get June, July and August off!! And of course, I have 2 GREAT vacuum cleaners!!
Yeah this is specifically, "blowing coat". It happens about 2-4 times per year and can last about 1-3 weeks each session. While it *is* shedding, its a whole nother aspect of it. The huskies undercoat is totally "blown" out and it just keeps coming out and coming out. Its insane. Its WAY more intense then the "shedding" that comes to mind when you hear that word.
Siberian Huskies have 3 coats of fur - they shed for about 9 months out of the year. A Husky can fill a pillow every year - with fur!! The Good part: Huskies rarely have fleas or ticks - they cannot get to the Huskies skin - for all the fur -- and it rots quickly and STINKS!! You can easily tell a Husky owner - we all have GREAT vacuum cleaners!!!;-))) I love my two 9 year olds!! It is easier to pay the groomer $50 and let him pull hair out of his mouth for then next week!!
I brushed Dolly out the other day. I learned real quick to wear a surgical mask next time. I picked hair out of my mouth for like an hour. She sure enjoyed it, though! Saint looks like he did also! He's a gorgeous boy!

Almost looked like a Furminator to me. I should try one of those. My Sibe isn't too fond of the shedding blade.
