Loved her makeup and hair in season one..she was definately repressed and vulnerable..this season her makeup and hair has changed..and she seems like she went to empowerment school for the summer.
Betty is the character that most grew on me. Every episode I like her more. Between this amazing scene, and shooting some pigeons, she completely won my respect *lol*
I watched the whole first season on DVD. When this happened, I had to hit pause and take a few breaths. LOLOL. I mean...Betty just slapped Helen's face in the grocery store, you know!!!! Whaaaaaaaaaaat???
When I was a kid during this era, boys would often ask girls they liked for a lock of hair. This was sometimes delivered tied in a little ribbon. It was a ritual of courtship, esp. among early adolescents. Betty and Helen would have known what this symbol was about. Helen is understandably upset here. This was a very interesting episode in Betty's subplot!!
Do you think this show is very realistic in resembling life in the 1950's and early 60's by the way people acted and dressed or is this just Hollywood hogwash?
I'm not extremely familiar with the time period, but I've read that this show is carefully crafted in style to both look authentic, and to appeal to today's audience. But the show in general is extremely great. It's very subtle and intriguing.
That's the best Bitch-slap JJ's character can muster up? WEAK! Damn, she IS repressed. I havent seen all 13 episodes of season one. I'll have to see if this is pre-Miltown or post-Miltown. Nice Stepford element to this scene! C-R-E-E-P-Y, on multiple levels. Like Betty's kid.
Love it. Trouble in Suburban Paradise. There is a later scene when Betty comes across Helen's kid in the school parking lot, and tearfully confesses how alone she is, how she has nobody to talk to. I think the scene is amaizing.
It's a lock of hair! Not his first blow job.

I think it would have been nice if Betty and Helen would have been friends since all the other wives where bad mouthing her for being divorced.

But that is the point right, that no one is good enough for anyone so everyone is alienated and alone.
