12/26/2011: "SSCS, the organization defending whales against asshole Japanese whalers on "researcher" cosplay, have a powerful new weapon: unmanned aerial vehicles. They have located a Japanese whaling fleet 1,000 miles north of the Southern Ocean whale sanctuary using a drone. Last year SSCS ships blocked the Japanese whalers saving 858 whales out of 1,035 - the number of whales the Japanese had planned to hunt down." gizmodo. com/5871086/sea-shepherd-now-using-drones-to-hunt-japanese-whalers
"Large groups of homeless persons (named: The Suicide Squads) are being hired as workers at the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant and are being paid $400. (US) to brave high radiation levels as experts warn that the race to save the facility has already been lost. The fear that the plant is suddenly leaking more radiation into surrounding sea water at the plant has prompted this new action. The water is found to contain levels 3335 times higher than normal, almost 3 times higher than last week."
The Sea Shepherds hit where it hurts. As we all know by now, Whales are very susceptible to toxins (just like mercury). Well, when the japanese kill a whale, the Shepherds use the legally harmless "stink bombs" to taint the meat so the whalers can't profit from it. So now they've spent the costs of fuel, salaries for their men, food & supplies, whatever licenses, and bribes... and have nothing to show for it but bankruptcy.
This, plus the court battles, will bring it all to an end eventually
"Extinction is a difficult concept to fully appreciate. What has been is no more and never shall be again. It would take another creation and billions of years to recreate the passenger pigeon. It is the loss of billions of years of evolutionary programming. It is the destruction of beauty, the obliteration of truth, the removal of uniqueness, the scarring of the sacred web of life."-Captain Watson
What I'm seeing here is that the Ady Gil is to the starboard side of the Japanese vessel...therefore they Japanese must yield right of way. If you watch it from the Bob Barker's cameras, you can clearly the the Shonan Maru 2 take a right turn towards the Ady Gil.
The Whaling Fleet should've been destroyed in the tsunami, not the rest of Japan.
I love it, the whale wors people are so full of shit and lie to try to get some press. The deserve that shit. Now if they can just hit the big boat too.
Jun 21, 2011: "Life in the oceans is at imminent risk of the worst extinction in millions of years due to threats such as climate change and over-fishing, a study showed. "We now face losing many species and marine ecosystems within a single generation," according to the study by 27 experts. The study said that over-fishing is the easiest to reverse. "Unlike climate change, it can be directly, immediately and effectively tackled by policy change," news.yahoo. com/s/nm/20110621/sc_nm/us_oceans
"A new report says Japan's tsunami ravaged nuclear plant was so unprepared for the disaster that workers had to bring protective gear and instruction manuals from elsewhere and borrow equipment from a contractor. The report, released by operator Tokyo Electric Co, is based on interviews of workers and plant data. It portrays chaos in a desperate and ultimately unsuccessful battle to protect the Fukushima plant from meltdown, and shows that workers struggled with unfamiliar equipment."
The problem is everyone's problem, and that of all future generations.
The japanese set out to kill Minke Whales, Humpback Whales, Fin Whales, Byrdes Whales, and Beaked Whales every year... with a quota of over a thousand in total. Look up the subsistence of ALL of these.
Overplundering will damage the ecosystem beyond repair
@tenga3wa10 i wish the whole world could hold a public vote. Then you would see how many individuals are against whaling and how many are in favour.
Secondly, whaling should only be allowed to those who "need" it for survival...
meaning, not on an industrial level (compare the japanese to the inuits)
For the Inuit people, whale meat is over 60% of their TOTAL food. Plus, they kill only 50 Bowheads per year. Inuits are a sovereign nation of Native Americans... not technically "America"
@Famo222 Sometimes some people need to be told what to do, out of fear they'll make the wrong decisions. Example: After WW2, the japanese were told they can never staff a military again.
They were also told they may never declare war on another nation ever again
NONE of the Whales should be harvested because they aren't being replenished by man. Especially the still very endangered humpbacks! Deer are harmful to man on land, Whales are not. Deer overpopulate and overgraze. Whales are in the oceans. Whales are perfectly inoffensive!
@Antarctican81186 Nope, it's funny to a guy who knows that you're full of shit lol. You didn't even post a full address. How exactly am I going to find you if I have no idea what state or county you live in LOL! And how did some guy find it within 15 min of you posting the message? I'll tell you, it's because you're full of shit lol.
@Antarctican81186 LOL You're just trying to prove to yourself that you are a tough guy by posting these (quite comedic) comments that are supposed to anger me, or make me sad lol. Apparently YOU don't even believe that you are tough, because you are overcompensating so much. Just curious, but how exactly am I a coward?
@joe848484 Terrorists? The Sea Shepherds have ALL their activities and their names up on your TV screen every week!
Are they "terrorists" for trying to prevent the illegal slaughter of endangered and protected species? How the hell does that work? The term "Eco Terrorist" isn't right either. It would indicate terrorism against the ecology. But the unnecessary killing of Whales is the only activity here harming a part of nature. Compassion is not terrorism
@info145 The way I use "Eco-Terrorist" is a terrorist that uses ecology as an excuse. Whether they are doing the right thing or not, it is as illegal as any whale fishing (Ramming boats, throwing things at Japanese, etc. etc.). Vigilante justice is still illegal by the way. Though I by no means think what they are doing is wrong. Lol I am so happy I am talking to an adult again instead of that antartican guy. We can have a civil debate.
@joe848484 It's as i was saying, "Eco-terrorist" is a mis-phrase. The Sea Shepherds are ECO-WARRIORS for trying to assist in the ecology's preservation.
That's far more accurate, and one precedent on which i base that is the very simple fact that the governments of the world are not out seeking the arrest of Paul Watson at all costs like they were with Osama Bin Killed.
First you said: "LOL You are an idiot. The sea shepherd is a ship belonging to terrorists, and they need to be in prison or executed, just like PETA and the taliban. Fuck all those guys. All terrorists."
then you say
"Lol I am so happy I am talking to an adult again instead of that antartican guy. We can have a civil debate."
Make up your opinion about me, or is everything Antarctican says about you true?
@Antarctican81186 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! Keep the comments coming! I'm going to get some popcorn. You won't even stay on topic lol. You just talk about how tough you are. You're not 24 are you? I guess I'm not quite done. You are the worst troll ever. However, your comments are absolutely hilarious! Keep them coming tough guy.
@Antarctican81186 This is Youtube. How exactly are you going to pummel me through the internet? Also, I "sound" like a junkie? How exactly do I sound like anything? You are reading! The voice inside your head is you. (Yes I am mocking you). Judging by complete sentences and correct grammar, I would say you are the junkie.
@Antarctican81186 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! A keyboard warrior. See what happens? What exactly is going to happen? Are you going to type me a mean message? Lmao. You're as scary as Paul Watson Ok well, back on topic. Whaling was made illegal because they were endangered. Now, humpacks, and sperm whales are not endangered anymore, so why is regulated whale hunting still to be illegal? Deer hunting ok though?
@joe848484 Of course this also proves Japan really doesn't have much of an effect on whale population considering they've been whaling this whole time, even as whale population was skyrocketing.
@Antarctican81186 but.... they're not hurting the whale population. Lol whale whores all speak as if the Japanese act like their south park counter-part when it comes to whaling. What exactly are they changing in our future by whaling? Oh yeah, nothing.
Terrorists? The Sea Shepherds have ALL their activities and their names up on your TV screen every week! They're "terrorists" for trying to prevent the illegal slaughter of endangered and protected species? How the hell does that work? The term "Eco Terrorist" isn't right at all. It would indicate terrorism against the ecology. But the unnecessary killing of Whales is the only activity here harming a part of nature. Compassion is not terrorism
In case the creeps haven't figured it out, i'll define it right now:
At least 70% of all who see these videos and post are against whaling!
To top that, most of the rest are just kids posting for the purpose of trying to appear cold and cruel, because apparently, that's the in thing to do. They believe it makes them "the strong".
So then the pared down remainder are the only pro-whalers... and some of those are just agents following orders on the ICR payroll (no matter how they truly feel)
Good to see such live and intelligent debate. Whaling is wrong, plain and simple. We all know it. We gain nothing from the practice anymore. Euros use it for ambergris, which has been fazed out of most perfumes, but still... most European nations are against it, as well as the US. Japan simply needs to move on. And to the two children accusing each other of beastiality... seriously, grow up. xdroon, you don't believe a word you're saying, you're just trying to get a rise out of dumbasses. stop.
@WARDofLORE It's necessary! As we all know by now, Whales are very susceptible to toxins. Well, when the japanese kill a Whale, the Sea Shepherds use the legally harmless "stink bombs" to taint the meat so the whalers can't profit from it. So now they've spent the costs of fuel, salaries for their men, food & supplies, whatever licenses, and bribes... and have nothing to show for it but bankruptcy!
This plus the legal battles initiated in World Court of Justice will eventually pay off
@WARDofLORE The Sea Shepherds may protest any way they wish (and notice, the authorities aren't rushing in to put them out of business and arrest them)
@WARDofLORE It goes both ways. If the Sea Shepherds were criminals or terrorists, they'd have been long arrested. They are not in jail because they do not break laws. "Bend" and "push", but not break.
The authorities know the japanese will consume Whales into extinction if allowed unrestricted
@WARDofLORE The Shepherds are not in jail because they haven't broken a law. Jap Qaeda are the criminals here. Just because they refuse to cooperate with investigations doesn't mean they haven't done anything wrong! They're harming our world's ecology for profit. Eventually, they'll see the light, but only after being forced, when the authorities wake up. There's no terror in what the Sea Shepherds do. WHICH SIDE IS HARMING THE A PART OF NATURE?!
@info145 LOL You are an idiot. The sea shepherd is a ship belonging to terrorists, and they need to be in prison or executed, just like PETA and the taliban. Fuck all those guys. All terrorists.
@info145 They've been hunting whales since before the IWC was created. Who gives a flying fuck what they have to say? They are not hurting the whale population, why does it matter? Jap Qaeda? The Japanese are not the terrorists here. How dare you say that! What act of terrorism have they committed?
New season starts tonight, and i guarantee you, all the people here who post against the Sea Shepherds won't miss it... and probably not a single episode all season
"Japan’s tsunami seems to have succeeded, where years of boycotts and protests & high-seas chases by Western environmentalists had failed, in knocking out a pillar of the nation’s whaling industry. Ayukawahama was one of only four communities in Japan that defiantly carried on whaling and eating whales as a part of the 'local culture', even as the rest of the nation loses interest in whale meat." japanprobe. com/2011/03/25/whaling-town-destroyed-by-tsunami/
A coastal whaling base in Miyagi Prefecture of Japan has been destroyed by the powerful tsunami triggered by 3/11/11's massive earthquake, which washed away their whale-processing facility. In Ishinomaki of Ayukawa on southern Oshika, the tsunami of 10 meters high traveled 600 meters inland. They prospered as a whaling base since opening there in 1906. Two of their vessels were scheduled to participate in Japan's research whaling in April. search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20110318a7.html
Message to Dr. Krunko: For the Inuit people, whale meat is over 60% of their TOTAL food. Plus, they kill only 50 per year. Inuits are a sovereign nation of Native Americans... not technically "America" (being in Alaska notwithstanding)
Whaling is not 100% illegal now. Iceland & Norway do commercial whaling. And IWA allows the Natives' whaling. 39 countries support whaling and 49 oppose it in IWA (2010). It's still in process.
That seemed pretty mean and deliberate. Then those Japanese whalers kept on spraying those on board. Pretty gutless. If there is a global band on whaling, why are they still whaling?
@TerrenceG There's a "loophole" in the international anti-whaling law. A country is allowed to kill some for science purposes, so the Japs are pretending they actually need 900 dead whales EACH YEAR for scientific research! This states two things: They're the most cold blooded subhumans on Earth concerning nature and/or Japan must have the absolute DUMBEST scientists ever! The instant they pull a whale onboard, you can see they carve the animal right up and box the parts! NO research being done!
You people are killing very ENDANGERED animals who are having a hard time populating. If they all die off, then they're gone forever. It'd be the equivalent of humans going extinct on land. Whaling is cruel, unnecessary and doesn't make sense economically. Whales have indeed displayed signs of factual intelligence equal to that of a 7 year old human! That's the truth. It's not me saying this, look it up...
@drkuroneko So even if it were true that Minke are not endangered, what are you suggesting? Hunt them until they ARE? They kill minke and fin whales AND humpbacks!!!
You're one of THEM. There's no debate with you. You're 100% pre-set, like a worker ant.
Whale Meat, Seal Meat, and Seafood contain huge doses of Methyl Mercury - A neurotoxin. Eating Whalemeat, SealMeat, & Fish contaminated with Methyl or Organic elemental Mercury causes brain damage, mental retardation, tremors, and brain tissue damage. Most people are aware of Health Officials warnings about fish, however thousands are unaware that the dosages contained in Whale Meat and Seal Meat is from 10x to 9,000x the dose in Fish. 1000s of times above the human limit. watch?v=xRcEfErT0PE
@info145 Dont be an idiot info. That is totally offensive and uncalled for. I don't even give a damn if you are also trying to stop whaling in SOWS. You are totally wrong to talk in such a rude manner.
@info145 Hello. Mr. flabby dick at its peak. What is wrong with whaling anyway ? Are you going to give me a new age freak's answer ? Or because they are endangered species ? The whales which the Japanese hunt are not endangered species but bowhead whales which the U.S hunt.
"UNACCEPTABLE" IS WHAT PRESIDENT OBAMA SAID KILLING WHALES . And everyone on the earth knows that attempted murder on not just one but 6 people aboard the Ady Gil is UNACCEPTABLE. The Japanese whalers have done both in one trip. I respect and honor Greenpeace, The Steve Irwin Sea Shepherd and The Bob Barker ANTIWHALING ships trying and having a very successful season last year at not letting the japanese kill any more whales than they did. Research my eye. Money hungry bastards!
"Japan hunts whales under the research exemption to a 1986 worldwide ban on commercial hunts. Critics say there is no reason to kill the animals, and the research program amounts to commercial whaling in disguise because surplus meat from the hunt is sold domestically and the gains to science are either noted previous discoveries or are next to insignificant." - NYTimes. com Jan 4th 2011
@rosepetal108 wow ur blind. they threw themselved infront of the ship, you can see the wake adi gil makes when they thrust the engines, wakes don't create themselves :|
@xXBeach hahahahaha wakes don't create themselves but also ships dont move instantly either. It is called momentum and it works. That last second throttle was to try and get away. Too little too late.
@rosepetal108 i know ships dont move instantly lol tthat was my point. You clearly are not aware of this guys record of doing shit just to get attention. And don't be naive, ive been boating all my life and that was not to 'get out of the way', he was 100% out of the way before he threw the throttle on. if he was actually, then he woulda turned hard starboard and you woulda seen the front end swing just a bit..didn't see that...
@xXBeach That boat (the AG) cant turn hard to starboard under 12 knots the rudders are useless. However the Shonan Maru 2 did turn hard to starboard into the AG. Have you read the NZ report that includes GPS and Data boxes from both vessels? The report clearly states the SM2 fault was turning purposely into the AG and the AG fault was not evading sooner (or even posting a proper watch to inform the helmsman the SM2 was approaching)
@rosepetal108 I didn't look into it to that depth. I just assumed so because i heard somewhere that the insurance didn't pay for it, but if there was a report that concluded such they would have paid. 'we disagree to disagree'
@xXBeach Was financially better to scuttle the boat and raise money through fund raising activities that mess with insurance. After all both parties did share some blame.
What's so wrong about trying to save whales and promote a healthier ecology anyway? You'd swear people WANT animals to suffer and want the food chain to collapse
Yasuhisa Kawahura is a disgrace to Japan for lying about the collision with the Ady Gil -- simply to protect Japan's illegal whaling industry.
Japan hunts whales for profit in a whale sanctuary, against international law and a global moratorium. By definition, they are criminals. They use words like culture and tradition to fmask the greed that motivates them.
The world condemns Japan's illegal whaling. Stop killing whales, you demented, greedy scumbags.
Look at the motivation behind each party's activities. That's where the full stories and explanations can be found. A) Why do the Japanese whalers do what they do? B) Why do the Sea Shepherds do what they do? Answer these two questions in your mind. Be truthful
The Japs were unloading the meat found to have too much mercury in it as "school lunches", since they couldn't sell those batches as the high priced "delicacy". i only hope the Japs go extinct before the whales do! "JAP" is for sake of brevity. If i were racist, i'd be calling them Nips. Look it up
How are the Sea Shepherds pirates for keeping WITHIN the laws? The whalers are the ones circumventing the laws by saying the whales are for research, and the Shepherds don't use guns! How are the Sea Shepherds racists for cutting illgotten Japanese profit? The Shepherds have to poison it so the Japs can't eat it, wasting their time and expenses of catching it. How are the Sea Shepherds hippies for having compassion? How are the Sea Shepherds "terrorists" for trying to save lives? Terrorists KILL
We donate money to the Sea Shepherds so they can continue to cut the profit Japanese whalers make. We like to see them fukk the Japs out of as much money as possible :-) Captain Watson is not sitting back relaxing in some mansion getting rich! He's out over the waters himself, fighting the bastard whalers by cutting how much profit they make out of death
All you've done using the COLREGs is make a fool of yourself, not even knowing the difference between the stand on and the give way vessel--one of the most basic yet crucial points of maritime law!
When I owned you,, when I used your info to prove you wrong! Again!
To bad your personal interpretation of maritime laws isn't fact,, just a version you wish were true!
Keep on trying to spin your libtard agenda around to suit yourself,, doesn't work here, hasn't worked on the water, and most certainly has never worked in the court system has it!
That's because your version is just that ,,"your version'.
Keep on condoning the terrorism,, shows what an idiot your are.
@h20fwler1 You're just a stupid republic*nt. You haven't proven a damn thing except that A) you're an idiot and B) that you're incapable of admitting when you're wrong.
Why don't you tell us again what a stand on vessel is? LMAO........
Your lack of any nautical knowledge is funny at best. And you lamely trying to defend it is a joke. All of your rhetoric on any of your twisted interpretation of maritime laws is null and void when a LEGAL vessel is being attacked by terrorist or pirates isn't it? (rhetorical)
Wow, just look at that. Another one filled with "personal" anger toward us who respect nature. h20fwler1 is a clone of so many other cold heartless simpletons with corrupt souls. When they die one day and leave this world, only then will their eyes be open and they'll know at last.
Yea dipshit,, Lisa got owned,, repeatedly. And even using the COLREGS,, which is not the be all end all for maritime laws.
You hemped up wanna be terrorist are a joke.
I am the one owed $200 by that crawfish,, but then again I never expected a whacked out libtard zealot to pay up,, since when has telling the truth ever been any of your strong suits?(rhetorical) We all know the answer is never.
Keep on lamely trying to spread your false propaganda,, it's entertaining.
@h20fwler1 Umm, why don't you show us exactly where you "owned me" you vapid little twit? BTW the COLREGS ARE the be all end all you stupid dolt--they are the intl maritime laws.......gawd you're a dumbass!
For the last time, show us anywhere in the world where the law of gross tonnage is codified (i.e. written, I know you're not very bright....) into maritime law. I'll save you some time--you CAN'T, because it doesn't exist under the law which is what I've been telling you you republic_nt....
They are pretending it's scientific purposes so they can continue to break a law that's been in place since 1986. Japan is not a poor country anymore! They needn't hunt whales! Japan is always operating behind some kind of deception, even since before Pearl Harbour. Before 1986 they killed 2000 yearly. "Commercial" whaling was banned and made illegal in 1986. Today, the Japs kill 900+ per year for scientific purposes. Before 1986, the Japs killed 200 per year for scientific purposes.
2009: The Australian Prime Minister restated objections to Japan's whaling, threatening legal action in international court: "If we can't resolve this matter diplomatically, we'll take international legal action. I'm serious about it, I would prefer to deal with it diplomatically, but if we can't get there, that's the alternative course", Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
2010: The Australian Gov't announced the initiation of proceedings against Japan in the International Court of Justice (Hague)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Of course it polluted the ocean but you tree huggers chose to ignore those pesky FACTS and bethune should be CRIMINALLY charged for what he did. It was blatantly obvious the addy intentionally tried to steer in front of the bigger vessel creating an extremely dangerous situation causing it to be struck. It was a shame the occupants of the addy didn't go down with the ship,, they are nothing more than terrorist.
@h20fwler1 Ummm, maybe you didn't notice there Sparky, but Pete Bethune was not at the helm.......
Secondly, the only official govt investigation into this collision (conducted by Maritime New Zealand) concluded that the Shonan Maru caused this collision by violating numerous intl maritime laws as they approached the Ady Gil which had the right of way.
Well Einstein,, maritime law is largest tonnage has right of way. That the addy tried to park in front of the whaler was moronic just like the rest of the retarded terrorists attempts they try. Pity was it didn't sink it fast and drown the vegtards so they could "give their life for a whale".
@h20fwler1 WRONG! You might want to check into what the maritime laws actually say before you go spouting off about something you obviously know nothing about........
@h20fwler1 A) I'm not a vegetarian nor a tree hugger--but nice try with the negative stereotypes B) would you care to make a little wager that the Ady Gil had the right of way? Say $200? I have a payapl account....do you?
Definition: The Law of Gross Tonnage is a common sense principle in the boating world and is especially relevant small vessels. Gross tonnage refers to a ship or boats overall volume. The Law of Gross Tonnage, also known as the law of common sense on the water, says that the larger vessel has the right of way on the water. This is because they are less manueverable, have trouble seeing smaller boats, and can do more damage when in a collision.
@h20fwler1 A) I'm not vegan, vegetarian, etc. not that it's an of your business.....B) The law of gross tonnage is a myth. The REAL laws, the COLREGS, make is perfectly clear that the vessel to starboard has the right of way unless the other vessel. Like I said, if you're man enough to pony up $200 (and I doubt that you are!), I'll prove to you that the law of gross tonnage has NO BEARING on maritime law or regulations, and that in this video clip the Ady Gil was the stand on vessel. Got it?
So vegtard, I have to assume you don't know if your vegan or not either. I am sure you won't pay. Are you tired of being owned yet? Anyone who boats at all knows this FACT.
Are you familiar with Google? Bing? Can you figure out how to use it?
EPIC FAIL MORON!
Get off the pipe before typing stoney.
Stop believing everything you read in your eco terrorist flyer, tree hugging terrorist lie for their cause all the time, that whole show is full of it.
@h20fwler1 Either put up or shut up you little frat-boy twerp! Now be a good little boy and read the COLREGS, and then come back here and tell us under what rule of the COLREGS the Shonan Maru had the right of way over the Ady Gil. We're waiting punk.......
DAMN your dense aren't you! Frat boy,, that is funny. Like the "man up" statement. EPIC fail on your part again tool. You assuming that I am a dude just shows how totally stupid you really are. Keep on swinging moron,, you haven't gotten one thing right yet. And you are COMPLETELY WRONG about your dismissal of gross tonnage maritime laws too,,imagine that!
You owe me $200 dillrod,, I am sure you will crawfish like the libtard you are. Chode..
@h20fwler1 So how does it feel to have someone falsely judge you? Kinda sucks, huh? You call me a vegan--I'll call you a frat-boy. when you're ready to act like an adult, let me know.....
As I stated, show us in the COLREGS where it states the law of gross tonnage. It's pretty easy--just google "COLREGS" and then scroll through the regs until you find the rule that backs up your claim. Until you back up your claim with proof, shut yer pie hole!
@h20fwler1 What are you, like 12? Seriously, you have the vocabulary of a 12 year old girl....
First, as I stated, you're lying through your ass if your claiming that the so-called law of gross tonnage is codified ANYWHERE in intl law. Until you can state the rule from the COLREGS that's backs up your claim, you're just blowing hot air--and you have ZERO credibility. Second, the Ady Gil was dead in the water when the Shonan Maru attacked THEM. Google "the last aggressor doctrine."
Huh,,, and yet the Shonan Maru didn't get in trouble when it ran the terrorist boat over for intentionally parking in front of them,, again to bad the crew didn't go down with the addy.
You are so full of shit with your rhetoric it is funny,, the denial makes me laugh.
Libtard propaganda is all you spew.
Again if there were a special Olympics for terrorism the Shepherd crew would win first place!
@h20fwler1 Wow. Every time you open your mouth you look like an even bigger idiot.......
FYI, the Maritime NZ investigation into this collision put the blame squarely upon the Shonan Maru. That's right, the maritime experts spent months investigating and their final report shows the SM is at fault.
As to the $200, just show us where in the COLREGS it says you're right.....until then? STFU.........
"just show us where in the COLREGS it says you're right....."
OK!
From your colregs on the addy intentionally trying to park in front of the SM
Gross tonnage?
Rule #7 (ii) Such risk may sometimes exist even when an appreciable bearing change is evident, particularly when approaching a very large vessel or a tow or when approaching a vessel at close range.
As far as the addy parking in front of SM . Rule #8 b) Any alteration of course and/or speed to avoid collision shall, if the circumstances of the case admit be large enough to be readily apparent to another vessel observing visually or by radar;a succession of small alterations of course and/or speed shall be avoided.
More rule#8 (ii) A vessel required not to impede the passage or safe passage of another vessel is not relieved of this obligation if approaching the other vessel so as to involve risk of collision and shall, when taking action, have full regard to the action which may be required by the rules of this part.
Rule #16 Every vessel which is directed to keep out of the way of another vessel shall, so far as possible, take early and substantial action to keep well clear.
@h20fwler1 Wow. Every day you reveal yourself to be an even bigger dumbass than I thought......do you even know what "stand on" and "give way" mean you stupid twit? Obviously not...........
Anyway, still waiting for your proof from the COLREGS supporting your claim about "the law of gross tonnage..." What's the matter sweetie, having a hard time finding it?? CLUE: it's because it's not there..........
Your denial is pathetic,, you have been disproved over and over and just like a libtard with tunnel vision you keep on with your blind idiocy. Not surprising coming from someone who condones terrorism,, even lame ass terrorism like the shepherd crew commits. You know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about maritime laws.
Riddle me this dipshit? What kind of trouble did the SM get into for running over the terrorist boat? Nada!
Nature's revenge: The largest number of human deaths by an animal in a single attack occurred during the Battle of Ramree Island on February 19, 1945 in Burma. Nine hundred Japanese soldiers attempted to retreat from a Royal Navy attack across ten miles of mangrove swamps inhabited by thousands of Saltwater Crocodiles. Twenty soldiers were later captured alive by the British, and of the remainder, almost 500 were attacked and eaten by the crocodiles. Ref: Guinness Book of World Records
These unintelligent terrorists are clearly stupid enough to accelerate right into the bow of the whaler - good thing the Adi Gil went down later! And the Bob Barker - flying a Norwegian flag? Let's sink that one too - these people will be taking lives soon!!! Let them save the cows that make up the fast food they eat every day...
Whaling is actually a very antiquated way to gain food. It's prehistoric, and as humans, we've evolved and come way beyond it. Are the Japanese stating to the world that they are less than human?
In a letter to Japan, published in the NY Times, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, 21 scientists declared: "Japan's whale research program fails to meet minimum standards for credible science. Also, their whaling is not designed to answer questions relevant to the management of whales & Japan refuses to make the information it collects available for independent review & that its research program lacks a testable hypothesis & performance indicators needed for accepted scientific standards."

Over the period of 1988 and 2005, minke whales in Antarctica have lost blubber thickness and overall fat weight by 9%. What has caused this (change in their food supply, eco-system, or global warming) is a matter of debate. The point is that without Japanese research program, there was no way of knowing that this was happening, contrary to the idiots below do not want to believe.
CONT out of the 55 peer-reviewed papers, only 4 of them were deemed to have any real significance relative to developing and managing whaling and require the killing of whales in order to gather the data.
25 years of research, and only 4 relevant, peer-reviewed papers. I'd say that pretty much sums up the japanese whale "research" program--it's a waste of japanese taxpayer's money, and it's a sham with no credibility within the global scientific community.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@MsLisaB333 Like I explained, Japan has more than 100 papers, not 55.
The idiots in the video are saying that lethal methods were necessary for those 4 papers, so you actually misinterpreted the points that the idiots are making.
Japanese tax paper's money is none of your business. US gov't drops millions of bombs, and that is how you want Japan to spend their tax?
Whether it was worth killing for 7% of the total papers they produce is an ethical question, for which science has no answer.
Why do the japanese whale poachers keep insisting that the IWC authorizes their "whale research" when the IWC has authored over 40 resolutions condemning the japanese killing of whales under the guise of science?

The Sea Shepherds hit where it hurts. As we all know by now, Whales are very susceptible to toxins (just like mercury). Well, when the japanese kill a whale, the Shepherds use the legally harmless "stink bombs" to taint the meat so the whalers can't profit from it. So now they've spent the costs of fuel, salaries for their men, food & supplies, whatever licenses, and bribes... and have nothing to show for it but bankruptcy.
This, plus the court battles, will bring it all to an end eventually

@info145 The way I use "Eco-Terrorist" is a terrorist that uses ecology as an excuse.

It was a shame the occupants of the addy didn't go down with the ship,, they are nothing more than terrorist.
h20fwler1 1 year ago
@h20fwler1 Ummm, maybe you didn't notice there Sparky, but Pete Bethune was not at the helm.......
Secondly, the only official govt investigation into this collision (conducted by Maritime New Zealand) concluded that the Shonan Maru caused this collision by violating numerous intl maritime laws as they approached the Ady Gil which had the right of way.
How 'bout them FACTS?

Huh,, like this?
Definition: The Law of Gross Tonnage is a common sense principle in the boating world and is especially relevant small vessels. Gross tonnage refers to a ship or boats overall volume. The Law of Gross Tonnage, also known as the law of common sense on the water, says that the larger vessel has the right of way on the water. This is because they are less manueverable, have trouble seeing smaller boats, and can do more damage when in a collision.
h20fwler1 1 year ago
@h20fwler1 A) I'm not vegan, vegetarian, etc. not that it's an of your business.....B) The law of gross tonnage is a myth. The REAL laws, the COLREGS, make is perfectly clear that the vessel to starboard has the right of way unless the other vessel. Like I said, if you're man enough to pony up $200 (and I doubt that you are!), I'll prove to you that the law of gross tonnage has NO BEARING on maritime law or regulations, and that in this video clip the Ady Gil was the stand on vessel. @MsLisaB333
Well vegtard minion,
Besides you still being an idiot and still being completely wrong,, lets go over it one more time.
First Maritime gross tonnage law applies even though you are to dumb to acknowledge.
Second open sea piracy laws,, oh yeah!
Third committing an act of terrorism,,,oops!
The whaler had every right to sink the addy and did,, again damn shame the crew didn't go down too.
So besides being an idiot you are a re-nigger, pay up my $200 chode! EPIC FAIL!

MsLisaB333 1 year ago
@MsLisaB333
Huh,,, and yet the Shonan Maru didn't get in trouble when it ran the terrorist boat over for intentionally parking in front of them,, again to bad the crew didn't go down with the addy.

Gross tonnage?
Rule #7 (ii) Such risk may sometimes exist even when an appreciable bearing change is evident, particularly when approaching a very large vessel or a tow or when approaching a vessel at close range.
h20fwler1 1 year ago
@MsLisaB333
As far as the addy parking in front of SM . Rule #8 b) Any alteration of course and/or speed to avoid collision shall, if the circumstances of the case admit be large enough to be readily apparent to another vessel observing visually or by radar;a succession of small alterations of course and/or speed shall be avoided.
h20fwler1 1 year ago
@MsLisaB333

Rule #17 d) This Rule does not relieve the give-way vessel of her obligation to keep out of the way.

Scientific research? On a FACTORY SHIP? Wouldn't you need a science vessel for research?
Scientific research? Then why are the Japs throwing the most important biological parts you'd do research on OVERBOARD immediately?
Scientific research? The Japs don't have any scientists onboard. Those are all factory labourers wearing those helmets and coveralls
Scientific research? The instant they pull a whale onboard, they carve the animal right up and box the parts! NO research being done!
