This is probably too late to ask but: Did you shoot on miniDV or HDV tapes, and what capture presets did you use to digitise this footage in presumably on FCP? thanks.
Hi moviesunrated. It's not 3CCD, it's 3CMOS. There are 3 ways that you can zoom on the camera. Buttons on the handle, buttons on the side grip and the ring. The handle is one speed, the grip can be adjusted by how far down you press the buttons but once you start using the camera it feels better with the rings, I'm sure you'd end up using that for the mostpart. You can also remotely control the zoom with the camera remote
I'm afraid I have no experience with the DSR-PD175 but personally I prefer working in the HDV format. It depends on what you're shooting and for what purpose. Detailed descriptions of the difference in the formats can be found with a simple google search as it is much debated!
well, im looking to buy one for wedding parties and club parties.. do you recommend it for that? And one more question, does it have manual zoom and manual focus on rings (seperated)?
Hey Yabeebay. I'm definitely still very happy with the camera, the performance is consistently good and once you get the hang of it it's a very easy and satisfying piece of equipment to use. It has my recommendation

@ZyloProductions So whats the difference between 3CCD and 3CMOS?

Is HVR-V1 better then DSR-PD175??? As I saw the only difference is that V1 has HDV and PD175 doesnt. Which one you recommend?
