petsmart doesnt return animals to the supplier. if we find that an animal is ill or injured we take them to a vet for immediate care. plain and simple. any employee who sees an ill or injured animal and does nothing to help the animal is up for automatic termination. peta is a joke. they are like the westboro baptist church for animals.

Pet Smart and Petco DO take care of there animals, at least here in Elmira New York they do; they need identification and the assurance that you leave with all of the proper materials for the pet "BEFORE" you can even purchase. I work for sunpet, and the people who work with us would never treat the animals like this. What was done in this video was by individuals, not the company. If we let these animals "go" they would die in 2 days. They are housepets, like a dog or cat, they are not capable of living in the wild. If you shut these stores down these animals won't exist. In every business establishment, you have people who don't want to play by the rules.

I got my first two hamsters from a dog shelter, with really good reputation, they were originally from Petco, they lived for 3 1/2 years. Heres the funny thing, I got 3 fish from Walmart, and they lived for 5 years, they gave birth and their grandfish are alive still. While the ones I got at Petco lived for barely half a year. I now got two more hamsters and they are doing fine. The Petcos and Petsmarts in my town arent anything like these.

If you buy the animals from the stores they recieve money for them even if they are sick. That means they are getting paid to be cruel to these animals!!!

The animals sent from Petco/Petsmart to shelters are given, no profit. So yes, there is a chance you are getting a former Petco/Petsmart animal, but your not buying it from them. I beg to differ the end. There is a pet store near me where they breed the animals on site and as they are purchased. In fact they will show you around the entire business including the back areas upon request. Also, they explain that all animals available(1-2) are displayed.

Don't blame Petco or Petsmart for this. The individual stores just get shipped animals from various dealers. The stores have no control how the animals are treated at the vendor (totally separate business) The animals are checked for health issues at the store so no sick animals are being sold to customers.

I saved my two cats off the streets. One was a farm kitten. The vet didnt expect her to live. After 3 days, a lot of love and work. She is healthy and a spoiled 3 yr old. My other cat came from the streets after abuse. We took her in, fed her and gave her a home. Took her around a yr and a half to come around humans again, now she is spoiled rotten and begs for treats or sleeps with you. I support the humane society and ASPCA because all animals deserve a second chance to live.
Don't worry, all of these abusers are going to get theirs in the end. I hope they suffer like the animals that they inflicted abuse on. @THEalexragonTV you SHOULD buy from petsmart. the animals there are never treated that way, i know first hand. the pets in petsmarts stores actually come from a USDA supplier and vet approved licensed breeders. in store the pets are well handled, and taken care of day and night. the sick and injured pets are taken to the back to be nursed. next time you go into petsmart, ask if you can see any sick or injured gecko, chances are, you can adopt them. though i am not sure about PETCO.

A business should know better than this anyway, and unfortunately it doesn't matter if it's a pet store, dog walker, kennels, cattery, farm, etc...if these animals fall into the wrong hands, then they'll be abused. You just have to keep your eyes open, don't ignore the signs, and report.

I've been in the pet trade for 8 years now and i will say this video overreacts a little I've been dealing with sun pet for a long time now and there not a bad company sometimes animals do get sick but that does happen some times even if you take the best care of them and some animals like Hamster can not be treated and there is no other way then death because some things they carry are very contagious to other hamsters. Yes its sad but life can be sometimes. pets trades are not evil.

I once chased my beautiful loving dog around the house with a broom when he ate an entire plate of freshly baked brownies that I was taking to a freind's for thanksgiving dinner. I had gotten up at 6 am that morning and went out in the woods and collected black walnuts and shelled them for the brownies, which took hours. I went out of my mind. I understand it can get crazy at times.
But can you believe that most humans on Earth torture defenseless animals for food!

I work for sunpet, and the people who work with us would never treat the animals like this. What was done in this video was by individuals, not the company. If we let these animals "go" they would die in 2 days. They are housepets, like a dog or cat, they are not capable of living in the wild. If you shut these stores down these animals won't exist. In every business establishment, you have people who don't want to play by the rules.

I got my first two hamsters from a dog shelter, with really good reputation, they were originally from Petco, they lived for 3 1/2 years. Heres the funny thing, I got 3 fish from Walmart, and they lived for 5 years, they gave birth and their grandfish are alive still. While the ones I got at Petco lived for barely half a year. I now got two more hamsters and they are doing fine. The Petcos and Petsmarts in my town arent anything like these.

@rvLBCAS Its different if you get them from a rescue center. Unfortunetely a lot of people buy animals from these stores. If no-one did they would bankrupt. If you buy the animals from the stores they recieve money for them even if they are sick. That means they are getting paid to be cruel to these animals!!!

By buying from Petco or Petsmart, you are supporting their business, encouraging them to breed more animals in horrific conditions. The animals sent from Petco/Petsmart to shelters are given, no profit. So yes, there is a chance you are getting a former Petco/Petsmart animal, but your not buying it from them. Also, I would like to see that "PETA killing animals" video. Can you send it to me?

I beg to differ the end. There is a pet store near me where they breed the animals on site and as they are purchased. In fact they will show you around the entire business including the back areas upon request. Also, they explain that all animals available(1-2) are displayed.

Don't blame Petco or Petsmart for this. The individual stores just get shipped animals from various dealers. The stores have no control how the animals are treated at the vendor (totally separate business) The animals are checked for health issues at the store so no sick animals are being sold to customers.

I saved my two cats off the streets. One was a farm kitten. The vet didnt expect her to live. After 3 days, a lot of love and work. She is healthy and a spoiled 3 yr old. My other cat came from the streets after abuse. We took her in, fed her and gave her a home. Took her around a yr and a half to come around humans again, now she is spoiled rotten and begs for treats or sleeps with you. I support the humane society and ASPCA because all animals deserve a second chance to live.

Is it just me that doubts the legitimacy of this video? I don't see anywhere that the setting is in any Sun Pet location. If anyone read what was shown on the slides and immediately trusts them, without any sort of comprehensive analzation, please don't vote in any elections. Aforementioned slides have no sources, other than the video with possible actors. This is an organization that accepts donations, thus making a profit/income for those who run PETA. This is quite possibly propaganda.

@THEalexragonTV you SHOULD buy from petsmart. the animals there are never treated that way, i know first hand. the pets in petsmarts stores actually come from a USDA supplier and vet approved licensed breeders. in store the pets are well handled, and taken care of day and night. the sick and injured pets are taken to the back to be nursed. next time you go into petsmart, ask if you can see any sick or injured gecko, chances are, you can adopt them. though i am not sure about PETCO.

@centralperk94 This is true. But pet stores are supposed to sell adequate food supplies and equipment. It isn't all about buying animals. A business should know better than this anyway, and unfortunately it doesn't matter if it's a pet store, dog walker, kennels, cattery, farm, etc...if these animals fall into the wrong hands, then they'll be abused. You just have to keep your eyes open, don't ignore the signs, and report.

I've been in the pet trade for 8 years now and i will say this video overreacts a little I've been dealing with sun pet for a long time now and there not a bad company sometimes animals do get sick but that does happen some times even if you take the best care of them and some animals like Hamster can not be treated and there is no other way then death because some things they carry are very contagious to other hamsters. Yes its sad but life can be sometimes. pets trades are not evil.
