  • I love this song, and it reigns truer for me today than ever before.

  • Playing from your fucking soul----> This band

  • lol the word high is in reference to getting high and not the saying "high and mighty" anthony wrote the song as an ode to hillel after his rehab and promise to himself and hillel to stay clean. he tells hillel to that if he sees him getting high to "knock [him]down"

  • @lucasguslani I see it as a reference to both, that's the beauty of it

  • I like 2:00

  • The only song I find great for any celebrity, or competition...

  • nice song

  • MELHOR SOM DELES

  • by the way, on the info section the uploader says the word "high" is not referring to drug use, yes it is, that's exactly what this is about.

  • @CafetaoSuicidal exactly! this song is dedicated to Hillel

  • up until this album I liked this band, after that it's like 90% shit.

  • JOHN WAS GUITARIST ON MOTHERS MILK...THATS HIM SINGING....THEY MIXED HIS VOCAL LOUDER THAN KIEDIS.......HILLEL WAS A LEGEND THOUGH

  • if you see me,

    and if you fancy,

    /watch?v=sYbGugKvy1o

we could have an ice cream cone in 2012

    behind mayan calendar, firefly

  • A great dedication to Hillel Slovak. I believe this is still their best album to date. Just my own opinion. Still had that raw sound that they had live.

  • @lilbootch idk man blood sugar sex magik was pretty damn epic lol

  • @lilbootch uplift mofo party plan?

  • wow..... so guitar hero sensors the word "high" which has nothing to do with drugs. Sad day.... sad world. Thank god RHCP are still here!

  • this is not the song i was looking for

  • @juandet313 this is the song you SHOULD have been looking for.

"It's so lonely when you don't even know yourself."

    Couldn't be more true.

  • cant help but shed a tear when I hear this. cant imagine what they went through. Hillel, never to be forgotten. R.I.P

  • R.I.P Hillel Slovak!

  • @Megan143Leanne agreed, but this is John playing on this album!

  • @Megan143Leanne dude this is the Mother's milk album, John plays giutar on that album! .. hillel was dead by then! ... it has nothing to do with him

  • @likankik dude its dedicated to hillel

  • @likankik It sure is about Hillel, but not only about him. There are other meanings in this song such as inflated egos and addiction. It's about telling your friends to "check" you.

  • RIP HILLEL

  • is this really Anthony's voise...??

  • @RougeVsBlaze read the discription....

  • @RougeVsBlaze This is the album version with John's voice being dominant the anthony version is if you buy the deluxe

  • *first line says MIGHTY, second says HIGH

  • you guys... if you had read anthony's book you would discover this song is really dedicated to Hillel, and the consequent clean period anthony had since his death for overdose...so you see, lyrycs are "if you see me getting HIGH knock me down." by the

  • i think it is mighty because it comes from the phrase "high and mighty" anyway this song is fucking amazing

  • Funky as hell! Love this song.

  • DUNKEY BAY BE

  • @lulu12aja my eyes are bleeding :S

  • does anyone know the name of the woman singing in the end of the song, her vocals are awesome,or it can be guy with a very high pitch.

  • @noiseonlyplease her name is Vicky Calhoun. Anthony Kiedis says so on his book ( =

  • @rollingonable thanks alot, maybe i need to read that book. every rhcp fan says its good.

  • hey RHCPfan34 this song more than depicting that negativity you talk about is about drugs and it was Anthony's first song after Hillel's death, he dedicated this song to Hillel.

  • man, this music is so fuckin hard to play on the bass, omfg;;;;/

  • @rhcpallthaway actually this album was released in '87 but i still agree with you about Hillel, he was a pivitol key in RHCP fame

  • @igohereformusic222 No it wasn't.

  • @igohereformusic222

    It was released in 1989

  • Anthony is from pakistan

  • If you have read Anthony Kiedis' book "scar tissue" this song is in reference of Hillel's death, who died from drug use. After, Anthony swore to stop doing needles & wrote this song. Makes alot of sense. RIP Hillel. Read the book. It's tells you all about the life of not only Anthony K, but RHCP as a band as well. :)

  • @Raphi186 He's 48 ...

  • my god, antony was 26 when they made this album, and look at his extremly muscles!

  • My favorite off the album

  • many of you racist idiots speakin rudely about Hillel, maybe don't know that Anthony is Lithuanian and Flea is Australian (non-Americans!). SO RHCP ARE THE BEST, AND YOU ARE A BUNCH OF LOSERS

  • @sergi0ram0s23 Im sorry but anthony is not lithuanian. He was born in michigan.

  • @The3rdBaboon yeah, but both of his parents are lithuanian. for example if your parents are african, and you are born in australia, you are australian?

  • @sergi0ram0s23 his mother is indian :)

  • STFU arguing on the internet retards. What's the point you're probably not gonna see the person in reality. Anyway...RHCP FTW ! <3

  • Arguing on the internet is a lot like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

  • So much hate in these comments, just enjoy the fking music, IT'S THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS!!!

  • If you see me getting high knock me down

    No to hard drugs

    RIP Hillel

  • Hillel Slovak FTW!!!

  • I thought the song was about losing a friend, the poster got something else out of it. Fair enough, we all interpret things differently.

  • @SuperToshibaMan old rhcp pwn new rhcp

  • literally this song gives me a better orgasm than my girlfriend does...

  • this song makes me emotional

so many lives have been ruined or taken away by drugs

    rip Hillel

  • "getting by" has more sense :P

if you see me buying drugs or using them "knock me" down right ?

Trouble is that too many English words sounds similar...

  • @Cypeq He is saying if you see me getting mighty, if you see me getting high.. "High and Mighty" means someone who is above others.. He is saying keep me grounded, don't allow me to think I am more than I am.

  • @gleventhal oh never heard that phrase before ^_^ that sets me as undecided coz it's impossible to distinguish from what he is singing. I'd lean towards hard written lyrics. THX

  • @gleventhal oh never heard that phrase before ^_^ it's impossible to distinguish from what he is singing so I'd lean towards hard written lyrics. THX

  • r.i.p slovak

  • you are beautiful

  • If you read Anthony Keidis's book, Scar Tissue, you will find out that this song was written about what it is like to be a drug addict, and that it is a love song to Hillel. He wrote this song right after Hillel's overdose.

  • one of the best songs by the red hot chili peppers in my opinion

  • Hopefully Klinghoffer will play some Mother's Milk! Since John never did after BSSM. Such a shame, its pretty much my fav album!

  • Anyone have any footage of rhcp recording mother's milk? amazing album!

  • Rare...

    and beautiful

  • if you see me doing crack, if you see me doing heroin, knock me down

  • Some mates of mine and me are doing a cover of this ong, with socks on our coks, IN SCHOOL! Fuck the teachers, a true tribute to Hillel!!!

  • actually love this song guitar and bass as got such a nice tone

  • Flaminglovestick: your a jackass

  • This song is about drug addiction and hillel did teach flea how to play bass. And scar tissue is my favorite book in the universe. I love the red hot chili peppers so much!

  • Actually, this song is about heroin addiction, the pain of losing Hillel, his best friend, to heroin; and Anthony's fear of getting lost in his own addiction. It's described by Anthony himself as a love song to Hillel, and a promise not to end up the same way. "If you see me getting mighty / If you see me getting high / Knock me down / I'm not bigger than life" is a plea to the people who love him; if you see me getting sucked in, thinking it won't get me, remind me that it can and will.

  • RIP Hillel Slovak. Anthony could not write the melody of the song and he gave it to John Frusciante to do it.

  • Anyone know the female singer? Soulful voice, I hope she has a band.

  • @aceshigh23650 Its Vicky Calhoun

  • John's vocals in this song melts me. :)

I'm a fucking hardcore Chili Peppers fan and proud of it!

  • the song is about Hillel Slovak, who overdosed on heroin in 1988

  • "The song describes what it was like to be a drug addict, to have that ego and to think you were impenetrable and impervious to the forces of nature and life. But it was also a love song for Hillel. "

    Scar Tissue pg 231

  • הלל סלובק ת.נ.צ.ב.ה

  • This song is about asking for help, something Hillel never did, so in a way, it's about Hillel also. Hillel asking for help about drugs, so it's about them as well. Thought I'd clear that up

  • @Jolamarajami, ever seen that harrowing documentary about Frusciante, when he was ghost of a heroin addict, barely alive in Amsterdam? Dude looked like the living dead, seriously.

Fuck. Those boys watched Slovak die, and then they entertained Frusciante without trying to save him?

    Even Kiedis knows this!

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

it's so lonely when you don't even know yourself

The heroin addiction is a fucking monster.

  • @frankc32 Anthony did try to get him to stop, he tried to get the whole band to stop everything they were doing, drugs and alcohol. But I think her just gave up on everyone's drugs, and it was too late before he realized how bad John was

  • @Jolamarajami, what's up, dude? thanks for your perspective, I am sure you know your stuff.

I know Anthony has had his own struggles with dope - do you happen to know if he's currently using? Is the band even active anymore? I hope they are, because a sure way to relapse is to have too much free time on your hands. Not that I would know, LOL!

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @frankc32 I only know this because I've been reading Scar Tissue, it's got alot of information on alot of the songs. But I'm pretty sure Anthony will never use again, and the band had been working on a new record after a bit of a break after Stadium Arcadium, although, John left the band

  • @Jolamarajami, thanks for the insight. I will look for that book and give it a read.

    Cheers!

    FrankC32

  • @Jolamarajami I bougth the book, but my mum took it away from me cause the content. Quite a pity!

  • @3OH3slover

    Shame on you mum!

Please let her know on this mum,s behalf that book burning never amounted to anything.

You have to find out and learn for yourself and I hope some day you,ll get more of a chance to do so.

What is so mind-polluting about the Peppers anyway?

  • @hildaatje I'm gonna ask it from her now :D I'm in High School and deal with it ALL the time!!

  • @Jolamarajami Yup.

  • come on guys i'm 13 and this generation really isn't all prissy girls and douchebags that listen to justin bieber. me and my friends, we all jam out to red hot chili peppers, the white stripes, led zeppelin, pearl jam, and everything you would expect us not to. we have fun without facebook and texting. don't judge a whole generation unless you really know what you're talking about

  • @xXrootsrockreggaeXx Hey kid, don't worry about a thing. You're not the first ones to be included in a whole generation's stereotype. It happens every generation, it happened to me too. You just keep listening to good music, and don't pay attention to stereotypes.

    Rock on kiddo :)

  • @xXrootsrockreggaeXx Me and my friends are exactly the same! And some good news, in the past 2 months, I've managed to bring 12 people to liking the chili's =)

  • huh i dont get it. on one hot minute, there is a song called: show me your soul, but in the clip i see frusciante and not navarro. and navarro played in one hot minute right?

  • @flaminglovestick you realize you are speaking rudely and racist about a dead man.. that's just wrong.

  • @annaiscool2344 he's dead? nah i'm not racist cos i don't mind if he's jew. i just thought i would mention it cos i have my suspicions

  • @flaminglovestick

you could leave out "that jew" if you weren't being racist. it was unnecessary.

and yes he's dead, he died of OD in 1987, the reason they now have john.

  • @annaiscool2344 nah i wasn't being racist. if there is nothing wrong with jews why is it a problem?

  • @flaminglovestick First of all slovak didn't even play in this album, second this is an awesome album, and third, FUCK YOU

  • @flaminglovestick

You racist asshole. First of all, HILLEL WASN'T EVEN IN THIS ALBUM, IDIOT. Hillel died June 25, 1988, this album was recorded November 1988 to March 1989. Second, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS WOULDN'T EXIST WITHOUT HILLEL. He even taught Flea to play bass. Does disrespecting a dead man make you feel good about yourself? Hillel was a LEGENDARY GUITAR PLAYER and he was only 26. If you're gonna try to disrespect someone at least use proper grammar and look things up, douche.

  • @rhcpallthaway he didnt teach flea how to play bass...

  • @slayerpwns777 Yes he did, have you read scar tissue? No you haven't.

  • @slayerpwns777

Yeah he did, if you read Scar Tissue or watched interviews, they say that Hillel played guitar in Anthym and he was unhappy with the bass player and started to teach Flea to play bass, so he could replace the bassist for Anthym. Go to Hillel Slovak's Wikipedia page - 3rd paragraph in "Early Years and Musical Beginnings".

  • @slayerpwns777 Yeah he did. Read the book.

  • @rhcpallthaway Hillel is in this album, he plays on the Hendrix cover of "Fire" it was just they recorded it before he died, thats why Kiedis in the break dow nish part is like "ooooh let Mr Huckleberry take over!"

  • @dtfNZ Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that, my bad. I meant he wasn't the guitarist FOR the album because he died prior to the recording of the album.

  • @rhcpallthaway amen brother ;)

  • @rhcpallthaway long comment. Must be smart... I'll "like" it :P

  • @flaminglovestick You do not deserve to breath

  • @flaminglovestick go and die in a hole please

  • @flaminglovestick oh my... there is so much wrong with this post haha not just grammar but there is so much rhcp info you fucked up..

  • @flaminglovestick this is probably their best album, you have to be mature to like it though, because when i listen to it when i was 13 i didnt like it but now its way better.

  • 7 people should be summarily executed

  • Its so lonely when you dont even know yourself.

  • This person says it's not a refference to drug use?

Anthony was on drugs after Slovak died, as they done this song in his name. The *If you see me getting high, if you see me getting by knock me down*

Because he doesn't want to go the same way his friend did.

Wikipedia is a load of shit.

All in all, amazing song. RIP Slovak.

  • what the fuck are you complaining about getting some information from wikipedia?!?! just enjoy the fuckin' song!

  • hey fags stop hating on RHCPfan34 wikipedia changes something someone put up if it is wrong

  • God, Flea is just so good.

  • AHHH THUMBS UP IF you miss the mid 90s before all this emo cry baby crap

  • Awsome Song.

Jippey, I'm 14 and i'm not hearing stupid Music. :b

  • re: video description and submitters subsequent comments: *shakes head and sighs*

  • just got to this part in scar tissue, best book ever

  • @fredodp I just bought that book last night... At the part where he loses his virginity to his fathers girlfriend.

  • @IronMaidenDoD just keep on reading, it only gets better the entire book.

  • @fredodp Just finished the entire book... Its really good. But the fact he kept doing heroin and going to rehab got a bit irritating. Lol..

  • @IronMaidenDoD haha yeah a little, but thats just the struggle he had to go through, and is still going through. on a side note i just got the journal of kurt kabain and it is really good. its note like reading a book though.

  • @fredodp Not much of a fan of Kurt Cobain, he screwed his audience over in a selfish act.

  • Is John the one singing in this? I read somewhere bother sang, but, it sounds like John is the only one singing.

  • That's soo wrong. The song is about the bands original guitarist Hillel Slovak who overdosed and died. It's all in Kiedis's novel Scar Tissue.

  • ONE OF MY FAV SONGS!!!

  • Hillel </3

  • im 16, been in love with chili's since i was 6, i knew even from that age that there was something really different about them. i could not imagine my/the world without them. theres a song for every mood. All the history behind them, everything, it just makes them that extra bit unique. i know ill always love them, and i hope i meet anthony one day, not in a stalker way, just to hear him talk about his life, as it's so FUCKING INTERESTING! LONG LIVE RHCP! <3

  • @Millehhh hey im 19 too and i agree with u 100%. but kids these days can't understand how amazing these songs are.. anyway i love these guys!!! my all time favorite band! :)
