  • That was a great explanation and I don't even understand japanese.

  • I think this helps to demonstrate also the inside kicks in Naihanchi. The whipping motion, spin, and power follow through all speak of it's ancestry in Shuri. This Sensei is excellent, for JKA.

  • poom poom! lol. but great demo. :)

  • mo wuu woo thats what i understand

  • i wonder if all that can be translated ;D

  • I've broken a solid wooden door with this kick!

  • Happends in Denmark.

  • this is ushiro yoko geri... not ushiro geri..

  • @toshitopalov Really? What's the difference?

  • One note from me:When you try to do this kick,it's better if you look where your foot is going, after all you don't want to hit air :)

  • very powerful kick but exposes your back to counters

  • Comment removed

  • I have no idea what's being explained in this video, I'm still new to karate and have little understanding yet. Could somebody please explain what I should be looking for in this clip? Thanks. (also why does he have stuff between his toes?)

  • @Shindai athletic tape, when wrapped around the toes, is to prevent blisters. what he is explaining in this video he is teaching the class that you need proper technique to execute this kick properly. you'll notice how he tells you not to over rotate when doing back kick (or else it becomes a hook kick) , spin + square up then release the kick utilizing your hip and pushing with your base foot.. towards the end he shows variations of chambering the kicking leg

  • @kamen25 Thanks a lot :)

  • 何が言いたいのかさっぱり分からん…

    空手家なら理解できるのだろうか?

  • thank you, sensei yamaguchi, for showing me the proper technique to do this kick.

  • He is Gogen's grandson?

  • Ushiro Geri - my worst kick ! lol

  • @karatefella haha, same here!

  • If you really want to know the value of this kick.......Ask yourself......Just how many are there in the Katas.............Oh.....that would be ZERO.........

So, for those that have problems with this sport kick...don't worry !!!!!

  • @becs5120 As I said below, this is NOT a sports kick. It was developed for self defence to damage the rib cage of a pursuing attacker as they closed in. The combined speed and impact of the attacker running into a forceful kick like this would have been devastating I think.

  • @piperbob2 So....the premise is......You are being chased by an attacker...running for your life.

You then stop, turn look behind and in the split second before he is upon you.....you don't instinctively turn around to face him but, rather judge his incoming speed and distance perfectly (even though you have probably only ever trained the kick in a "dojo setting") to deliver a devastating and "right on target" kick, all in that fraction of a second.

Sorry, but, never going to happen.

  • @becs512 Perhaps, but i's amotner weapon in one's armoury!

  • @piperbob2 The trouble is....that your instinctive defence mechanisims will take over and you will turn round to face a threat.

Every single confrontation will initiate our reflex reactions and all our defence techniques should start from that point.

An example...look at just how many katas start with the hands coming up..Nidan, Yondan...Nijish, Kushanku etc.

To me....and it is only what I teach.....they are instinctive reflex actions that the Chinese knew always come first in a confrontation

  • @becs512 Wrong

  • @becs512 What you can quote me on is I had a fight with a gang of 6 men,One tried to advance behind me I delivered an Urachin and followed with an ushiroGeri...It more than worked he just didnt want to know after that,He left it down to 5 men.Sorry but it just does happen.Your being flipant.

  • @becs512 And that is all the while the leopard is in running mode...Now Im not saying that this is what Yamaguchi Sensei is teaching here in this clip. You could however be approached tell the guy to sod off go to walk away inevitably he will move forward to follow or grab you,it is at this point I believe Yamaguchi Sensei's logic in what he is saying.

  • @becs512

Ever seen a giraffe set upon by a leopard....They are damn good and very effective,That Big Cat knows it has to be quick once upon it or it faces litrally a powerful back kick from that giraffe a kick so powerful it can break the Leopards neck...

  • I had a problem with some flashy hollywood wannabe he was strong and effective but kept doing the same Mae geri time and time again and stupidly it took me three blows before I thought side step and kick.

You can use kicks in a fight on the streets but make it work and worthwhile,Dont wait for him to get up to fight like a hollywood star...Get out of there. And away. Its that simple.

  • @becs5120 listen to what is being said to you.

Even if it is not so important for your grades....It is very useful and effective.

Although in the streets you are more likely to revert back to basic techniques unlike hollywood...It happens in hollywood because it sells,But in reality,You get one chance to use that kick your opponent may wise to it very quickly. If you dont you may be punished and end up the fool.

  • @becs5120 dear friend, I think it's the one of the strongest hits when it's performed as is supposed to!

  • Even the sounds he makes are scary let alone the kicks

  • His spin kick is very good but I would like him to keep his hands up to block the face and head. People get that lucky punch in sometimes.

  • @clearcombat

I hear you but hes demonstrating. My Sensei was taught by Japanese altough he couldnt speak Japanese,And perhaps what if someone is hard of hearing they may pick up on lip movement.Just a thought.

  • This kick developed by Buddhist monks. They would flee from an attacker, and if he chased them, they would allow the attacker to catch up, then aim ushiro geri to the sternum, as the attacker ran into the strike. Devastating!

  • @shadowwarrior03 haha brilliant! whr did you get that from?

  • @sitiberg ************ I was reliably told this by my sensei, the Rev. Nagaboshi (of Mushindokai) back in the late 60's. Our style was Okinawa based, so maybe the story comes from there, but more probably from China or Tibet.

  • Man I cannot wait for Sesei to Come to New zealand

  • oss , i really like how fast he is .

i am currently training the ushiro mawashi . after that i plan on learning ushiro geri ( in my oppinion its harder )

  • osss

  • ossssssss

  • ESO NO ES UN USHIRO MAWASHI ....

  • y dónde dice que es ushiro mauashi ?

  • osssssssssss¡¡¡¡¡

  • Thanks I thought of Goju-Kai because of surname Yamaguchi:)

  • This was one of my instructurs. He is phantastic, but I never realized how ridiculous his grunted instruction in English sound when caught on video.

  • is it a Goju Kai?

  • This is Shotokan Karate, if that is what you are asking.

  • Shotokan

  • Aren you supposed to be a shihan from 5 dan? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

  • hey there :)

Shihan (師範) is a Japanese term, often used in Japanese martial arts as an honorific title for expert or senior instructors. The term is frequently used interchangeably with English terms such as "master instructor".

Various martial arts organizations have different requirements for the usage of the titleIt is sometimes associated with certain rights, such as the right to give out black belt ranks in the name of the organization

  • Wrong

  • why ??? yoshitaka??

  • Sorry, computer completely replied to wrong person:

'Aren you supposed to be a shihan from 5 dan? Please correct me if I'm wrong.'

That's who I was replying to

    Sorry

  • shotokan regulary dont use those names shihan, kyoshi or other, is just sensei, maybe kancho (president of organization)

  • Ok,now I know.Thank you. :)

  • In shotokan circles, the title of shihan is not official, simply an honorific that means "teacher of teachers", and is often only used among teachers...somewhere it is written that in Japan you are a shihan when the other shihan begin calling you shihan...

  • @skyfiiire

Shian and Renshi etc is usually used in Aikido,And can mean Master.

    Shotokan we say Sensei=Teacher.

I study both Shotokan and Aikido aswell as Jujutsu but not as much as Shotokan and Aikido or Muso Omori Ryu.

  • pas d equilibre, pas de garde, rien de la merde, pas de puissance, vraiment va faire du velo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i thougt you shouldnt extent the leg your standing on?

  • his legs are reallly fast. he is too professional

  • The man knows what he is doing! Check the stance on the base leg and the distance calculation. Respect!

  • what this man does is magic, absolutely amazing!!!!!!

  • a german proverb: "practice makes the master"

  • bad for you,if you were on the end of it.

  • I agree with you, ushiro geri is one of the most efective kick in karate

  • try ashikatana to hiza (side kick with edge of foot to opponents knee)

much faster, easy, certain to maim or disable.

and just as well its illegal in competitions!

  • sorry - my reply (below) was to earlier post - not a comment on video.

  • @kingbayi :it's my understanding it IS the strongest kick the human body can make

  • yeah it gets power from momentum of waist and from weight of the body.

  • Are you joking?

I think that you mean when he's showing all of the things that you shouldn't do with the technique. Watch the parts where he is showing it done properly. Like the beggining.

  • Why is that? Is it because he doesn't hold it out there for 10 seconds posing and looking pretty, sitting back saying "wow, my kick is pretty"?

His kick is devistating with that speed and body connection.

  • are you seroius? that was excellent

  • That's pretty funny man, that comment just showed how little you know about martial technique.

  • with practice it can easily be used even in shiai kumite is usually not expected and the opponent thinks that you're retreating, since it comes from down low, unlike ushiro-ura mawashi geri it easily penetrates the guard. We at jyoshimon have been using effectively in competition latetly altought it takes a lot of faith in training to apply it in tournaments.

  • Brilliant!

  • wow this has opened my eyes i normally like to play it safe in sparring and avoid spins but now ...

  • Ah this is great, I've learnt a few good things!

  • sweet, love the sound effects! reminds me of Asai sensei.

  • Even an ushiro geri not fully extended can already wreak havoc to the body.

  • Wow, really nice and civilised response there.

  • I believe You should study some more ushiro-geri if You think the leg should be slightly bent

  • Don't be rude. Just shows your insecure. Even if someone says something stupid, it doesn't give you an excuse to insult. Ask yourself why you did it and you'll be surprised why your so bitter.

  • Awesome, fantastic kick, so fast.
