  • They got huge, but they started in St. Paul.

  • Timeless..................................

  • Amazing gig. Tight as a Ramones set. And that's saying a lot!!!!

  • Yeah only Grant and Bob are gay - (not the guy with the handlebar mustache) that said said Husker Du is one of the greatest bands ever - their fusion of pop hooks and fuzzed out craziness has still never been duplicated - I saw them in like 83 at Tuts in Chicago one of the best shows I have ever seen - Bobs up their in a hawaiian shirt with a v-guitar - all the uniformed black leather punks were confused but they blew everyones doors!! great vid!!!

  • borat on the bass

  • I peed in a horse once. Beat that.

    .

Husker Du fan for 22 years. And still cannot find the umlaut key.

  • Oh Yaa!

If you don't like Husker Du, maybe you should go home, listen to Nickleback albums and shoot yourself

  • Don't let such great band be ever forgotten!

  • Anyone that doesn't put the ü in the bands name is probably on a PC.

  • I was at this concert. Just thought i'd mention it. This video is a tree and i am a dog.

  • You can feel the blistering heat of this gig .... These guys were DOING 90 MPH. Meth? Amphetimines? Coke? what the fuck was it??? It's like they were trembling to keep up with the savage pace of the music. I dare say, as ignorant a FUCK as I am, admittedly, that they pretty-much single-handedly REINVENTED rock and roll as we fucking earthlings know it. DONE.

  • @CuteePie83 ahah what are you on? grant was a junkie and bob was most likely sober at this point. they a hardcore punk band of course they are going to play fast live with energy

  • i'm so glad i didn't fall into listenning to chart indie like the rest of my generation. i'm 16 and husker du mean everything to me

  • yo , new day rising is the shit

  • @GLUEBAGxZACKx666 and so is land speed record

  • Husker du kick ass!!

  • I agree this is an awesome live recording, beats Zen Arcade hands down.

  • I love the smile on Bob's face at the beginning of "Ticket to Ride."

    Maybe the best band ever.

  • Comment removed

  • i can't believe.. it's been 26 years..

and still i love listening to this great band..

    "don't know what to do..?"

  • Yea, I was at this gig and it was free entry, the video company had booked the place for the weekend and as far as I remember Lykod Cole and the promtions were and the Uk subs were also on the bill...

  • Many thanks, watched this video hundreds of times growing up !!!

  • Does anyone know if Grant and Bob are on speaking terms again? This band needs to get back together god damnit.

  • Fuckin' brilliant.

  • Thank you for uploading this!

  • ah! i broke a tooth !!!

  • Wow that looks like it would have been a blast to be at that show.

  • ahah Greg Norton (bass) reminds me so much of Ross from Friends when they do the college-age flashbacks xD

so uncool with those mustaches, now that's punk! being yourself and not caring about the way you look!

  • Hey,

I just noticed that Bob isn't playing with his usual Ivanez V Rocket Roller Senior in this concert.

Anybody know the story behind that?

  • When I saw the Candy Apple Grey tour, Bob was playing a pink Ibanez V which actually surprised me at the time. By the next tour "Warehouse", he switched to a Gibson V. Here he's playing what appears to be a Gibson Firebird; again, pretty surprising.

  • actually thats a Gibson Explorer, i believe rented for this show only.

  • I believe you are correct, sir.

  • Husker Du were the bomb full stop. Camden palace sucks now

  • it's about the music , not their preference.they showed the world what a talented group they we're.and bob is byfar one of the most innovative ever.

  • why are they called husker du?

are they danish or swedish or somthing because it means "do you remember" in danish im pretty sure though it might be norwegian or swedish as well

  • named after a danish board game calld "do u remember?" ....semi-random

  • FUCKING A

  • solid GOLD

  • Le meilleur groupe de tous les temps !

  • Hhaha. The only "gay" performer I cant stand is George Michael or Boy George. And its not cause they're gay, Its cause they suck.

  • You're a fucking twat pal.

  • @TerribleFLY is a terribleHomophobic dick. They're awesome AND THAT IS IT.

  • @TerribleFLY doesn't even begin to get it,

  • you're all gay.

  • Few were better than the Huskers saw them at Tuts a few times back in the day in Chicago -

  • They were awesome. Their sound is still awesome. And no other band has taken their place. Since when has one's sexual preference been an issue with music?!

  • What the FFFF! How can you love something all your life to find out you no longer love it just because the person/people that made it kick with the other foot. Either this band rocks or they don't. P.S. The answer is they F'N ROCK!!!

  • Awesome performance - i don't care if they're gay, or even if they're from Mars. I love the way Bob maintains that edgy, yet melodic wall of sound, whilst wearing a look of complete disinterest on his face. Some people are so talented it makes you sick !

  • Great footage from a truly great band.

I've just looked at some of the recent comments here, and I had no idea that Bob Mould and Grant Hart are/were rumoured to be homosexual. But whether it's true or not, who cares, It makes absolutely no difference one way or the other to my appreciation of this wonderful group's music. Husker Du were the best!

  • The Ramones lived with Arturo Vega in his Loft.Arturo Vega was a Drag Queen.Lou Reed and Velvet Underground, well... Take a look: "Please Kill Me (Legs McNeil & Gillian McCain), vol. 1 & 2. New York Dolls... Punk Rock is Gay! kkkkk Of course not!

  • Well Black Flag was punk rock and they were certainly not gay!!!

  • That`s right! Punk rock belongs teverybody! I´m straight, Bob and Grant are gay... I know you think like me.

  • ALL music belongs to everybody.

  • Agree

  • Helped load their gear onstage at Newport Stowe Hill Labour Club, Wales (85/86?)and got in free! Fuckin' Amazing! Hitchhiked 100 miles to see them - those were the days!!Huskers, Bad Brains, Toxic Reasons - all really great, friendly bands

  • This is awesome, f**king brilliant. Never got to see Husker Du but managed to see Sugar who performed a couple of Husker Du songs, only 400 at the gig, Wolverhampton 1997. Brilliant!!

  • at 1:19 you can see 3 hands on the bass. Think about it

  • at 1:19, you can see a roadie put the strap back on his bass.

If you didn't notice...he's kneeling down ffs.

  • yes i would like freedom for some but then we are really just excluding others from the freedom that these great states provide for us. GOD BLESS AMERICA

  • this dude played through most of the songs with his eyes closed and i can barely play the beginning of Eight Miles HIgh.

  • To be fair, Eight Miles High is harder than Ticket To Ride. (But it's still not all that hard...heh heh)

  • Amazing stuff. Been a long time since I heard their great version of "Ticket to Ride" - the NME issued it as part of a free single back in the day and I used to listen to it obsessively. Wasn't this particular rendition, but still great to see this stunning band. I never liked Nirvana - never had much against them, just didn't like them. I tried to like the Pixies and failed. The Huskers were far better than either.

  • The truth!

  • this version of Pink Turns to Blue is in Seven Ages of Rock

  • Pink Turns To Blue has to be one of their greatest songs and it shows it on this video and i could watch it forever!!!.

  • Husker Du rox!

  • how hot is bob with that explorer? only hotter when he's rockin the V...

  • borat on the bass

  • LMAO!

  • Yes, Greg's mustache choice was an unfortunate one. ;)

  • Was that Tom Selleck playing bass ? Great

    80's mullet and moustache.

  • When rumors started circulating that a member of the band was gay, suspicion immediately turned to Greg because of that mustache.

Of course, Greg was the only straight one of the three. Greg later mentioned that he didn't mind drawing attention away from the other two so their sexuality could remain a private matter.

  • They used to say that "Husker Du was a 3-piece band, and half of them were gay".

  • 2/3 of Husker were gay, although it was not known publicly until after they broke up.

I guess because Hüsker Dü were a very aggressive band, and I fully expected them to be like "one of the boys", I was VERY disappointed when I first heard that Bob and Grant were gay, and I hated Hüsker Dü for a while, even though I was a fan since childhood. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that they were just a great band. The songwriting has nothing to do with their personal lives.

  • It happened to me too.

  • Yeah man, I was a fan since the early 1990s. I never knew about Bob and Grant being gay until about two years ago when I looked at wikipedia, and I thought "what the fuck?!"

  • you are fucking disgusting if this is what changed your mind.

  • Oh, calm the fuck down. I've admitted that I've realized the error of my ways, haven't I?

  • I think "Gay" is often an ironic misnomer, and his "secret" life contributed to Bob's angst level. Re-read the lyrics to "Whatever".

  • Yeah, I agree, the lyrics to "Whatever" are pretty telling.

"Mom and dad I'm sorry" and "I'm not the son you wanted" stick out in that song.

  • Yep - I heard they were that way about ten years ago...didn't put me off them at all but did affect my interpretation of some of thier songs....Greg is a great guy for taking the heat off Bob and Grant.....he has still got that Dali moustache.....

  • That true? I admire that. Greg was such a selfless, cool, character -- I say that knowing abs nothing about him. But that is a cool issue that you mentioned. BTW: I personally like the sinsiter/theatrical aspect that Greg brought to the group (the only one, really). Near the end, he was donning a striped shirt that made him look like an inmate at Leavenworth or something... I think he's the Freddie Mercury of PUNK. (but not gay :)

  • I met him briefly. He was super cool, a damn nice guy. He signed a couple of my albums...the most incredible autograph I've ever seen, kid you not.

  • @CuteePie83 I know its funny that he had the handlebar mustache but wasn't gay - check out the book "Our band could be your life" Lots of good stuff about the Huskers getting started cheers

  • On like every Husker video someone has made this joke- it is a very close resemblance though, almost eery

  • This is by far the best thing I ever heard by husker du. Pink turns to blue is a highlite, yes.

    Rolf

  • I used to have this on VHS..Great band! When you think of Nirvana or Pixies, remember Husker Du were doing it first!!!! If only the young kids would know this..

  • except that "the young kids" who listen(ed) to Nirvana/Pixies are in their Thirties now with children.

  • Yeah the Pixies and Nirvana aren't like unlistenable...Pixies are actually pretty good. But this is the real shit

  • @mrgb46 Shut up grandad!!!!

  • @neiltay2002 Wow,you sound really intelligent..Calling me grandad, huh?? Last time I looked this was a free country..where are you from???

  • @mrgb46 I was having a joke with you, mate. I aint no spring chicken.

  • @neiltay2002 Sorry about that. It's hard to tell if someone is kidding on this sometimes, isn't it?? Please forget my last remark,ok??

  • @mrgb46 Of course! It is hard to tell sometimes. You hear it in your head when typing, not realising that others have to read what you've written. It's forgotten.

  • @neiltay2002 I know what you mean..

  • @mrgb46 It is, New Day Rising is their best album I think.

  • @mrgb46 Dude I'm 13! I know this PERFECTLY well! I listen to bands like Dinosaur jr, Screaming trees, Minutemen, HUSKER DU, Pixies, Tonic, Primus, Wipers, Bad brains, sebadoh, folk implosion, all the good stuff!

  • @mrgb46 Im a young kid and i know this.

  • @mrgb46 I've listened to husker du ever since I was 11... 14 now.

  • @CommanderC00L558 Been listening to Husker DU since I was 16. I'm 44 now. Beat that.

  • @wasdanah Lucky you, you heard them in 1983. I wish I lived back then.

  • @mrgb46 - some of us do...my group included.

  • awesome live

  • i foolishly turned down the chance to go to this gig..to go and protest against some nazis instead...

  • @theefishlippedone protesting against nazis were a lot more important.

  • @MrJihadjared haha id take husker du over that any day!

  • wow, i´m hearing pixies, i´m hearing nirvana

  • Damn right, you are. Husker Du was one of the required influences Charles Michael Kitridge Thompson IV used in his newspaper want ad for a band.

  • Don't forget Peter, Paul and Mary! :)

  • this is just great! i can always come back to this band

  • To echo most of the previous comments, this a great lil' set. Why is Greggy sittin' down?

  • 'cause he's awesome?

  • haha, i think his strap broke in the first song.

Someone should have given the fucker one.

  • SST rules

  • no it doesnt

  • SST used to rule.

  • kick ass!

  • I was at this gig...

  • i was there too, very wierd it ended really early and it was still daylight outside.

    I'm moshing stage right btw

  • this is really as good as it gets. Love them. They should really get round to remastering their albums

  • This coming from a Jesus and Mary Chain fan?? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    Fuck off.

  • i don't know you but you must be a dork to despise husker du

  • C'è qualcuno qui che non capisce una fava...

  • ce l'hai con me o con IanSchultz13 (vedi pg. 2 dei commenti)? il mio commento era una risposta al suo...

  • Macchè...ce l'avevo con qualcun altro.

  • Truly awesome, what a band they were.

  • Sublime

  • My boyfriend in high school turned me on to Husker Du in 1986 or so...what a great band!

  • This really is the best!!! Thanks for the upload...

  • Excellent upload

  • this video is exactly 2 months before my birth! hhehe!

22 years later I became a huge husker du fan... :]

  • Wow, they sound great in this show! Husker Du Rock.

  • they invented thrash with a melody love it

  • Fuck Greg is the shit. He is fucking great.

  • does anyone get "i'll never forget you", "the biggest lie" or other kickin' ass stuff from zen arcade in concert?

husker du is damn out of this world!! zen arcade probably the most incredible punk album ever recorded!

  • This is enough to cry over. Chokito, whoever you are, thank you.

  • Awesome to see some good live stuff from the Huskers!! Cities music 80-89 so awesome. Grant looks so much like Geraldo it is flippin scary.

  • oops I meant Greg and Geraldo. And the Ticket to Ride cover is kick ass.

  • Greg, you mean. Last I saw Grant, he was poured into a rickshaw, being wheeled down the street at the closing of Foxfire Coffee. Sad. The other guys seem to be doing pretty good. This version of Ticket shreds.

  • if you knew the band you could watch great acts for £2 a go while loads of pissed up students looked on non plussed, I saw umpteen awesome bands for nish and never pulled once!!

  • i like husker du, they got even balls to play flower-power stuff like the Beatles in Camden :°D lol

  • doesn't take balls. Nothing wrong with playing "flower power" stuff, unless you're a bozo.

  • audiences were shit for every band at camden palace from 82-95 cos most peole were just there to get hammered and pull, they had no idea who was on!!

  • welcome to punk's fun :°D

  • REUNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Saw them in Newport Stow Hill Labour Club, all due to Simon at Rockaway records and Cheap Sweaty Fun, So grateful.

  • I saw them in Nottingham's Rock City on this tour, and the next one a year later. Thanks for uploading this stuff, gives me goosebumps and a little sad.....so glad I am blessed enough to have been into them from the start.....Punk IS the best form of rock music. These guy's are the best of them all.

  • my god, when i think of the shite i was listening to in 1985 instead of listening to this! *weeps*

    great post, thanks!

  • What a shite audience though!

  • this is amazing. you forget what an incredible drummer grant hart was.

  • Grant's big sigh before immediately counting off into "Makes No Sense At All" = so rad. Greatest fucking band ever.

  • These guys were so ahead of their time...

  • Saw them twice in Vancouver 86/87

  • mould and sugar stuff discovered a deeper and emotional underskin side... only goes to confirm the potential all members of HD had to display - and maybe never completely did

  • may i say pink turns to blue is the best HD song?? at least the best from grants...

  • One of the greatest bands ever bar none. Amazing performance, they could take an awesome album track and make it that much better live.

  • i would sell my soul to my devil to be in that show

  • Damn, Greg N was an aggressive bass player. I'd forgotten just how powerful he was.

  • Grant Hart is my idol, he's a great drummer and a great composer, i prefer him better than bob mould but all the music they do it´s great!!

  • i tend to agree with you on that one. Regardless, husker du is awesome in its own right, but i kind of like grant a bit more too. especially when i comes down to how the group eventually broke apart.

  • were I god I would take a shovel and bury the 'grunge' years, you know the kiddie pop punk crap like Nirvana and Pearl Jam from '91-'95 or so, under 6 feet of peet moss, and give the medal for genuis to the real pioneers of hardcore/post-punk, bands like Husker Du and Dinosaur Jr. These guys are MY beatles.

  • Whoops. No I wasn't. I was at the Electric ballroom. Wind tunnel.

  • I was at this show. It was like being in a wind tunnel

  • oh okay...

  • what nationalaty does this band have?

  • American.

  • Husker Du was a very insperational band for many punk & alt. bands - were never very well known but awesome just the same

  • i reccommend to everyone here( if you havent done it already) once pink turns to blue is about to start and kick in turn your speakers nearly all the way up and turn the sub woofers up and whatever else up. i guarantee you will get chills of excitement

  • Its a shame that these guys can't get back together.

  • my favorite alltime band , never made it big , but they were still the best ever

  • Wow! Man, Flip Your Wig changed my life

  • Thanks so much for tracking this down! AMAZING STUFF!

  • but still kicks assssssssssss. lots of it, the whole video does

  • This is just off the "Makes No Sense At all" video

  • Godhead. The Huskers at the height of their powers, and a good-quality video. Thank you!

  • Great live video. I wasn't around when they were, so this is great, knowing what a Husker Du show was like. Great bass sound.

  • Great! They really are the last musical geniuses in the 20th century!ーfrom Seoul, Korea

  • fantastic, youve actually made my week with these new hd vids, thankyou
