Anyway. The initial goal of Vikersund was to have a hill in good enough shape to host World Championships. The WR was just a bonus. Those are the words of the leaders of Vikersundbakken.

They never had an intention of "stealing" the WR from Planica. If that were the case, they would build a much larger hill. ;)

I didn't post any bullshit about Vikersund stealing WR from Planica.. Planica is being renovated right now, they are going to deepen it so it will be possible to fly past 270m(FIS approved plans) - it can be safely extended even further - at least that Mr. Gorisek said(he and his son also made plans for Vikersund).

I have heard 290m after the renovation in Planica. That would be spectacular! I am no opponent of Planica. I just want people to enjoy ski jumping/ski flying, which is originating in my country as a sport. Sondre Norheim started it all.

But I have to admit that I like the fact that the WR is in Vikersund, as long as it lasts. ;)

I am from Serbia but my late uncle lived close to Planica in Slovenia... both countries were parts of the former Yugoslavia when in the year of 1977 I took a look from the top of the ski jumping hill in Planica... what a thrill was that, I'm still recalling these magnificent moments... so, my heart is still in Planica and still beating hard and strong for the new world records :)))

@juraldinho123 Oh, don't be daft, man! Here's some stats for you to ponder. First, Letalnica: K- 185 meters. HS- 215 meters. Vertical height dif from fall limit to jump- 130 meters.

Now, the new Vikersund: K- 195 meters. HS- 225 meters. Vertical height dif from fall limit to jump- 135 meters.

See what I mean? Yeah, sure you guys can build a larger one, but only after FIS decide to change current regulations. Trust me, they won't any time soon. Until then...

Ja, beim Skispringen macht Eurosport keiner was vor, das ist die Sportart, in der Eurosport Maßstäbe setzt...

Die haben zwar keine Vorberichte (wozu auch?), aber was ich echt gut finde, dass mal einfach so ein Springer in die Kommentatorkabine reinschneit und bisschen erzählt, das ist tausendmal besser als diese 08/15-Standardinterviews der ARD und ZDF... Ist alles viel persönlicher und entspannter dann...

Vikersund HS225 is now compeated, and it is possible to stand on jumps close to 260 meters in that hill, so we in Norway hope to make history with the first jump over 250 meter this winter.

The hill is also made so that it will be cheap and easy to enlagre the hill in the future, and plans for enlagment to HS 240 is ready five years from now.

Way too often in recent years, we've seen jurys allmost ruin WC jump competitions with their overzealous H&S attitude. What's the fun in watching these events if the best guys barely makes it down to HS? Let's just pray that those old geezers can let the guys fly a bit.... for once!

@95js95 Precisely! By the way, sat and watched the inauguration of the new Vikersund today. The test jumpers for this weekends WC event did a run-through, and two of them reached 218 and 219 meters without any headwind at all at the bottom of the hill. Now, if we get a good headwind all the way down the hill this weekend, we'll see some serious(!) flying (provided the jury are willing to let it happen, of course...). This hill is bloody HUGE. I can't wait! :-)
