I was in Aida at Earl's court [many moons ago] and Grace Bumbry was singing Aida - after act 2 she had to give up as she had bad hay fever - Ghena Dimitrova was in the audience and took over for acts 3 and 4, and she only "blacked up" her face [not neck or hands!]
I'm glad they stopped using this dumb looking make-up in productions of Aida. It actually looks very silly and is ALWAYS done so poorly that it actually comes off more offensive and certainly doesn't look plausible.
Great upload

Woooo, Jones looks incredible!! A true competition to Bumbry and her athletic body.

Why not just get a real black woman! Wonder if a black woman could do white face and portray Queen Elizabeth?!!!!! They look absolutely stupid.

agreed - though it WAS funny [and, by the by, sounded magnificent!]

It is funny, but I find hard to recognize Gwyneth's timbre here.
Bumbry has such a beauty here, what a body (and voice of course)!

La Magnifica at her best. Viva Bumbry!

You know, in addition to her many other gifts, Bumbry had wonderful diction. A fine artist.
