hey did u swap the de-k rail w 290cc injectors, and did u get it tuned< I wanna do 00vi and obx headers & Y--do u just need the manifold, rear valve cover, rail and harness & ecu, or what did u need to do it
@carsnwomen91 Ok, its super intricate, but you can use 4th gen LIM, 5th gen UIM (must be drilled to match) 4th gen FR, & injectors and you DO NOT NEED a tune -- if you swap to 5th gen everything you DO NEED a tune -- if you keep 4th gen parts you dont need to worry about the egr, but you do if you are going with 00vi + LIM & FR -- there are pieces to bypass or delete -- and each setup is kinda different and IMO you are better off swapping a 5th gen de-k motor into your 4th gen
@xxFairladyZxx LOL my maxima only has 103k km i don't need a swap... i'm aware, there are 8 different ways. The kit i'm buying includes block off plates and such for it to work on a forth gen... because its coming off of a 4th gen. i also have vafc 2 for tuning and for activating vias
@carsnwomen91 haha, have fun with that -- my maxima has 70k (but is 4sale so I am not doing anything more with it) and I have seen the numbers on the 00vi, and its not worth it IMO -- put your $ into something that isnt FWD and has 200hp+
so hey i have a i30 with the 5spd...will i be able to use the ecu maf and harness from the vq30de so a de-k can bolt right into??or what would i need for a de-k swap??
Nice setup! I have a 00 Max SE 5-sp and I've heard that getting rid of the stock Y-pipe with the pre-cats should be the first thing to do. Hopefully in the near future I will get the Y-pipe done, delete the resonator and keep the stock muffler since it's a variable capacity muffler very similar to the GT-R's of that time.
@schowe with the 00 manifold swap u get 10hp added bcuz stock manifold is a single runner and 00 manifold is a dual runner 95-99 get 190hp and 00-02 get 222hp...i got a 96 se 5sp if i swap out the manifold for a 00 manifold i will get more power
@ElCheco90 how do u get +10 hp from 00vi if 222-190 is 32hp? and then you ask if you get more power if u swap it out... fail. the intake isn't a dual runner, its a variable intake... its like vtec for the intake manifold... stays closed below 5000rpm for better torque and fuel efficiency and then opens up at 5krpm for top end power.
@ChaseKittens no i'm putting it in with another forum member from the toronto maxima enthusiast club (tmec). i'll be using 2000 maxima upper and lower intake manifolds, valve cover and coils, fuel rail and injectors and tb. i just bought a vafc 2 yesterday for minor tuning adjustments and for the 00vi signal. i have a nice writeup if you want, inbox me your email.
Man, I almost have the same set up. I bought a '95 GXE in Feb. 180k on the car, 80k on a junkyard replacement motor. But this guy also had on it : Fidanza flywheel with 5th gen, clutch. Y pipe w/hi flow cat. & new exhaust to new stock muffler. Cold air intake (thru fender). Newer (same as yours) intake manifold along with an Apex i fuel computer tied in. 226 fwhp was the number given when I bought it. It has run perfect so far, I still haven't gotten on it & I'm 51.
@pcfxer Pretty much. The back valve-cover needs to be replaced, though (Not sure if it NEEDS to, but I changed it anyway because of the clearance space needed.) But yes, it bolts right in. It's the same block with the same heads.
anyone else think this is like the same as the usim vid he posted earlier except louder? this 00vi doesnt seem much faster, then claim mid/high 13 runs. i timed it and 0-60 was still like 7.1
as you can tell in the video, my clutch is slipping at higher rpm's, which is why it may seem slower. the car definitely pulls a LOT harder after 5k rpms and I don't have any regrets.
And whoever said it runs mid/high 13s is full of it. This car will run mid/low 14s at best.
dandymax at maxima d o t org, got a 12.6@109mph with the VQ30 NA. But he has some weight reduction and every mod. There's plenty of high 13 times at the org for the 00vi swap.
@schowe83 After the 00vi swap it should run mid 14s. A stock 4th gen can do 15, maybe 14.9 at best. Change the exhaust y-pipe (a known 20hp gain) and you can probably hit 14 with the 00vi.
Actually if you listen to it, it sounds a lot more responsive and it sounds a little less raspier in higher revs. But I definitely think the car hauls more ass than it did before. I'm definitely gonna do the 00VI swap when I get some change in my pocket.
mevi will give you a higher rev for the high end, along with the JWT ECU. Im not knocking the OOVi at all, dnt get me wrong, actually for the moeny and availability, the 00Vi seems to be better for the money, its just MEVI are so rare. Although a Nissan Dealer can get you one...for a pretty penny...
You sure it wasn't a Dodge or Chrysler? I'm very sorry about your grandma, but I've NEVER heard of a Nissan engine randomly blowing up. Especially if it has a VQ series engine.
dude, engines do not randomly explode. It's pretty much impossible actually. Either your grandma was street racing, and she reved the rpms too high, which would cause the engine to drop, and then, maybe, if oil leaked, a fire could start, but an engine would not explode and instantly catch on fire.
@th3ha1og0d: you are an idiot. i've seen you bash nissans in multiple other videos on youtube. i LOL'd at your grandmother exploding comment - that one was definitely your best one so far. you are an idiot if you "hate" a certain manufacturer. cars are cars, they all perform the same function. you may just prefer one over another depending on what you want/need.
You wonder why I bash Nissan? If a Nissan burned one of your family members alive you'd see why I hate them so much. I am certainly not an idiot for hating Nissan. If you don't believe me I don't care, but I'm just trying to get people to avoid buying these cars with their "legendary" VQ engine because they have a known flaw in the fuel rail design that allows fuel to leak out and possible burn uncontrollably within the engine compartment which is what happened in my grandmothers car.
Don't try and argue. My grandma was burned alive. You can believe what you want, you can tell me a firewall was there, I really don't care, because it didn't do its job.
That doesn't happen, it never did, and it never will. The only time an engine has ever burst into flames is when GM had that incident with Cruise control. The only thing in an engine pressurized enough to make a big enough explosion to kill would be the valve, in which case the firewall would protect you from said explosion. YOUR A STUPID LIER LOOKING FOR ATTENTION, GET OVER IT.
So either, The engine had oil spilled on it, it ignited, and they fell asleep in the car long enough for the fire to burn through the metal firewall, into the cockpit and set them on fire, or someone put some C-4 in your grannys engine
IM 19 NOW I GRADUATED 2 YEARS AGO. NISSANS DONT EXPLODE. Show me the Newspaper that your so-called Grammas explosive Maxima was in. and your gramma obituary and I'll believe it. NOBODY BELIEVES YOUR STORY EXCEPT YOU.
mine wines in 1st too real bad... dont know why lol - yeah i was goign to do a 00vi install but i'm just gonna save myself the time and swap 3.5...... (but keep the 5speed tranny)
Stock clutch, it does slip sometimes on hard shifts at high rpms. I had my friend do the 00vi install for me. Thanks, it should run low 14s in the 1/4 mile pass.
If you think boosting your car is pricey, raising the compression is going to run you about the same amount. By the time you change the pistons, rings, bearings, rod bolts, headstuds, headgaskets, etc you wont be far off boosting it, and raising the compression doesnt do that much.
If your stuck on NA, intake, headers, 00vi, tune + cams if you really want to go all out.
raising compression isn't that expensive, $500-750 on custom pistons. Can use alot of parts from the 3.5 and other nissan motors. Plus running NA isn't as much up keep as boosting can be sometimes. Its all about personal preferance
Yeah. Well, most people dont just do pistons, while your in there, bearings, gaskets, rings, if your going NA and high revving, HR oil pump, HR valve springs, shims, cams (jwt knock offs), its not cheap. Raising compression with stock rev limiter is pretty useless.
A properly setup turbo/supercharger setup, will not require much more maintenence over a built NA motor. With proper cool down/warm up, it can be very reliable.
HR Oil pump and 3.5 oil pump will do the samething for the 3.0, no proof that the HR will up hold anything past the 7500 rpm mark, your engine is just on borrowed time at that point.
I got the s1 cams, HR valve springs, shims, HR headbolts for $500 all together (all new), the new bearings were another $100, along with piston rings. A couple new bolts for the rods and give or take some other things. So you can do a nice engine build with some head work for around $2k.
Its all a matter of personal opinion on what you want to do. I prefer NA for now still some uncharted territory IMO in that area for the both the 3.0 and 3.5
Yeah that 00vi has a much nicer sound.. You dont lose any lower end torque with the 00vi vs the regular usim do you? If anything you should ONLY benifit from it correct? i have the 00vi and Z32 MAF & 370cc Injectors which should go nicely with the 00vi..
No low-end loss at all. The reason why the 00VI > MEVI is because with the MEVI, you loose low end torque, while with the 00VI, you gain low end torque. Yes, you only benefit from it. GL with the injectors and MAF tho...are you planning on going FI?
I was thinking about the PFI kit with the 66mm, OR maybe the v2, v2's a little cheaper, and safer... So i've heard atleast, did motormounts last week along with maf (found on ebay for 45$) and i also found injectors but they're expensive, the new pfi kit comes with headers and a downpipe, just have to get emanage and other additions, all together it's a little more than i'm willing to spend, so i figured 00vi maf, maybe pathy throttle, but i dont really need that unless i'm boosting. what else?
sounds much better with the 00vi in the upper rpm range than with the stock IM. i only have a stock IM w/ an intake and it makes me think about getting the 00vi or mevi!!
how much did the 00vi cost? and what were your gains?

So i've heard atleast, did motormounts last week along with maf (found on ebay for 45$) and i also found injectors but they're expensive, the new pfi kit comes with headers and a downpipe, just have to get emanage and other additions, all together it's a little more than i'm willing to spend, so i figured 00vi maf, maybe pathy throttle, but i dont really need that unless i'm boosting. what else?

If you haven't done a y pipe yet, that would be first on your list. After a y pipe, get a VI, then go boosted.

sounds much better with the 00vi in the upper rpm range than with the stock IM. i only have a stock IM w/ an intake and it makes me think about getting the 00vi or mevi!!
