Man, without being mean, I think this guy should stay in the acoustic guitar section, because, if you're gonna pick up a Gibson Les Paul with the intention of only playing basic chords, just don't pick it up. That Les Paul is very popular now for most J-Pop bands. But it doesn't seem to handle too well when you try to play metal, unless you carefully adjust it to fit what you want to play, which is kind of a pain in the ass to me.

I went down to my local music store and played one of these guitars after playing my fathers 1981 Les Paul that weighs around 10 pounds. Gibson should be ashamed of themselves. It's comfortable yes, but the sound is crap compared to what I consider a REAL Les Paul.

I have that guitar. Best guitar i've ever played! Great tone too.

i know the "chambered body discussion" is infinite, but i can tell from my experiences that it works great! In fact it makes the body more resonant. I can feel the vibration from the strings through the body whem im sitting. Its pretty good sounding even unplugged and loud. In fact it sounds so good acoustic that i've started playing it when practicing acoustic instead of my acoustic guitar :)

This is by far and away the worst representation of a Les Paul I've ever seen. I am amazed that Gibson even let this be released. Not only is thi sgy not a guitar player, he's a moron. The new Standard is pretty bad ass, I do't mind the chambering, but I think the Traditional with the '57 sound better for my taste anyow. I never liked the 60's neck nmuch and all they've done here is made it thinner. There's nothing to hold onto. Seriously though, this guy is a joke. I would love his job.

Right, but it is still about preference. Chambering a solid body does not nessecarily lessen the tone, it's just a different taste. Like hollow bodies to solid bodies. It's just a different technique. That's why they still make the traditional and reissues. I never minded the chambering myself, but if given the choice I'd play on a non-chambered just to honor the heritage of lutherie. However, I won't knock chambered guitars, there's no need.
