  • Such an amazing pianist. She really reaches people.

  • Her playing, agift from God. Her dad recently said, she only has time to pracitice one hour every day on school days. She is at a small recital hall in Carnegie Hall this December. She is now 13.

  • one suggestion, DO NOT cut the pedal so abruptly during parts where the previous notes are meant to resonate still, such as 5:00 and 1:52

  • That's one of the most (in)famously difficult piano pieces where the melody needs to be played one note by the right and next note by the left hand (and so on) - it's beyond me how some people can manage this level of technique at such early age - I am not envying them (learning the piano was never my cup of tea), I just LOVE them!!!

  • damn chinese children, why must they make all american children look obese and untalented?

  • @TickePig because the american children look obese and untalented.

  • You will rarely hear this played "flawlessly". she does a great job, though, and I think her interpretation is INCREDIBLE for anyone, much less a young lady like this. I can't believe i get to see and hear this for free!!!!

  • This is very impressive. Although I havent had the opportunity to learn piano so well so early, I'd love to have my children have that opportunity.

  • phenomenons!

  • The BEST pianist I've seen on youtube. Just as amazing as the professionals!

  • well done!

  • Who would dislike this? She's got amazing technique, and this piece is not possible to dislike, unless you'e not human. Brava

  • OH MY GOD. She is FANTASTIC! How old is she??!

  • @OnPennyLane 13 now

  • It's kinda crazy kids playing such stuff. They are to young to understand un sospiro and don't have the emotional maturity to really get what they are playing. But well, it's technically amazing.

  • I really hate to admit it, but that was beautiful. Although I'm working on this now, and I can hardly hear this song (much less play it) without getting all emotional.

  • very good job.

  • She's not Hamelin, but she's as close as any mortal can get! Amazing playing!!! She's gonna grow up to be an amazing musician!

  • oh. blimey!

  • i doubt she really understands the feeling behind...I've been playing piano since I was 6 and when I was learning back then, I was just imitating what my piano players and cds sounded like. Admittedly, I sounded damn good back then because I didn't understand stage fright, didn't feel like 3 hour practises a day were too long at all and just doggedly did what I was told. Now that I'm 17, I actually get what I'm trying to convey, but I want to have more spare time and don't play as well as I can.

  • @jaggedtears Don't be sad, it's just the way the brain works. It's very difficult for someone in their 30's to learn new stuff, our brains are no longer developing like a child's. Children's brains simply absorb and retain information faster than adults. I'm in my 30's right now and trying to learn chess,( it's hard,) and it sucks that there are hundreds of kids under 12 in my state who could crush me. I just remind myself that if I was twelve I'd be just as good.

  • @jaggedtears i know. But it's better for us to change sadness into happiness, or we won't be able to play music anymore or try difficult pieces like Liszt. This girl is not supposed to demotivate you and me to progress, but to inspire us : passion and work will help.

  • @jaggedtears Why is it sad ? It makes me happy to see that girl working so hard and having so many skills. We have to be happy for the young generation or we are just old selfish and jealous assholes

  • -.- I don't want to know how her parents treat her to force her to such perfection. But you can tell by the way she's dressed. This may be a great piano player but I feel sorry for her.

  • Geez, and her feet barely reach the pedals! She doesn't have it perfect but she still does it with more style and grace than some more accomplished pianists on here. I struggled with this for years, now I can't even remember it. Those parts at 2:24 and 3:35 drove me nuts...and she breezes right through them!!! I could do the left hand, I could do the right hand, but no way I could ever get both. Frustrating, albeit fabulous piece of music! (Gonna have to try it again I guess, lol!)

  • Listen un sospiro performed by Jan Lisiecki, he is just few years older, but plays with real sense..

  • wow so nice

  • She's miming.....hamelin is off to the right somehwere

  • How can her tinny little hands reach that far?

  • its like she's charmed!

    amazing!

  • I wish my parents would have kicked ME sensless when I refused to practice as a kid.

  • i'm jealous..=(

  • very beautiful!

  • hmmm, there is a book holding up the piano leg.

  • Hallelujah!

  • hacks

  • Bravissima!!!!!!

  • I don't see any music on her stand...don't tell me that she memorizes all of these pieces

  • @SmellaElla13 for some people its easier to memorize than read

  • How old is she? She plays this piece better than what i hear some adults play it! Very wll done!

  • wow...cant say anything else

  • not all asian parents fit the stereotypical soul crushing work ethic of practicing ridiculous hours a day. they usually practice an hour or 2 a day. try it and youll get far. not only that, but im sure her piano teacher, like every other teaches by grade and does a study on etudes. im sure she had her own free will to choose to play this piece or not. not every kid wants to grow up to be an athlete, everyones different. some dream of reciting beautiful pieces on the concert stage.

  • bravo, that was amazing!

  • i'm no pedophile but this made me jizz

  • @homeyhomedawg Dude, what the fuck is wrong with you prevert?

  • @agustinantonio1 get in touch with youth slang, then ull get that noone is a pervert here

  • Has she even gotten up from that piano? Because thats insane..

  • right.I am jeloussssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • That's it - I quit!

  • Amazing!!!! I am speechless...

  • My daughter's gonna better than her ~P

  • @DarknessL12 Not with your parenting skills.

  • Think this girl is a virtuoso?

i know this guy 12 year old justin bieber and he can rap this blindfolded

  • @chrislpp what's your point of comparing this girl to the guy who u call a "real virtuoso"? this girl plays with superb musicality, that guy too? this girl can play la campanella, chopin etudes, can that guy? blindfolded means nothing, if u think being able to play just like a robot is just everything in the classical music forum then u r the one who should talk nothing about music. if u really cast doubt about whether this girl should be a virtuoso compared to that guy, upload his video then!!!

  • @zzhhaannggddii haha youre a dumbass, look up justin beiber on google and you'll get it....

  • wow......this little girl is amazing. this piece is quite difficult and im surprised she has done such a good job with it.

  • She will go places.

  • Oh My Mazing, she's an inspiration to us all

  • wow. i'm 21 and my fingers still cannot stretch like this young girls can.

  • how come you can play so well lol

  • Wow, What a performance!! I just love it!!!

  • molto molto molto brava....

    With my compliments...

  • Wow!

  • outstanding job!

  • I'm impressed. I've heard of many young and advanced pianists playing, this is outstanding.

  • magnificent... so clean and well shaped. She has musicality that can't be taught. Bravo!

  • People think that it's cruel to make people learn the piano from a young age, but I really don't understand why, so many famous pianists all started the piano from a young age, there are few who started in their teens or as adults. Martha Argerich started when she was three, arthur rubinstein started when he was two...

  • @Aryamanable

-I agree, but let's look at it from another point of view.

Its cruel not to let them play the piano if they are gifted, and have passion towards the instrument. @rachel: Great playing, you have a beautiful charm, Rachel!

  • And she plays without sheet music!

  • Even if I could play this song =.= My hands would break off and die before I could finish even the first 5 lines XD She's awesome <33 Her hands are so swift and light.

  • I'm not saying she's playing badly, in fact, the beauty of her playing is beyond comprehension; however this talent is only a result of fastidious and demanding parenting of a girl who probably didn't want to play piano in the first place.

  • @NinjaFishyz

No one would learn un sospiro if they didn't love the piano...

  • @Aryamanable i sooooooooooooooooooo agree with you

  • Rachel is a genius and I am a dumbass ......=_=

  • no your not. She is no better than you. You know what Albert Einstein said? He said "Before god we are all equal" Im not a crazy religious person just so you know. But after reading that as I was passing the board, I've realised how talented each one of us are.

  • wow...lol i look at how fast her hands go then I see myself typing...ahem...>_>

  • Wow, if I closed my eyes I would think it were an adult playing this. She has such beautiful expression!

  • she's really cute and wonderful

  • Am definitely learning this piece!! I'm always procrastinating... my teacher before has played this and that's where I first heard this piece... then it was played in the TV series Kings.. I admire rachel because despite her physical limitation (small hands) she managed to play this very well!!! all the best to rachel!

  • i am extremely jealous...why can't i play like that haha. good job.

  • I cannot believe that someone at this age have this understanding to make such an interpretation of this difficult piece.

I'm seeing your videos and I'm swearing I want to start playing piano again.

    It's inspiring.

    Thanks for sharing this.

  • that is too cool!!!

  • Comment removed

  • this is very nice i wish i could play as well as this child but i guess i have to be patient and learn as well as i can =)

  • Simply beautilful... thanks for sharing!

  • la cagoh esta china!!!

    muy buena

    amazing

    I woukd like become her

    =P

  • prodigy

  • nice you are vary good at piano.

  • This is wonderful! I can even feel her expressions! It's so nice to watch these young children play so well.. It isn't as intimidating as watching Hamelin! lol!

  • I can only play the beggining of the song and then it just loses me ...this is a hard song.

  • I like this version better than the one on my mp3 player :P

    Very good job!

  • My grandmother played at Carnegie Hall in the 30's...The tempo on this piece is prefect....When I listen to most, I feel like someone is running after me.....

  • Every Time I watch this It really does make you " Sye "

  • i luv liszt and this girl definately did this beautiful piece justice.

  • This little girl is brilliant, and a gift from god !!!!!!

  • Playing such demanding pieces takes skill, talent and hard work. Well Done.

  • im so jealous

  • me toooo :'(

  • la cagoooooo =O

    demasiado especatacular!!!!

  • How do like 10 year olds play these virtuoso pieces?

  • They have been gifted with a gift that has no par.

  • @Kalen1457 Love it! We should encourage young enthusiast to play more Romantic pieces. And as long as they're enjoying the skills they have, it'll give us that much more chance to mesmerize at their ability. It might give some people an unnatural fear that she's being forced to play by her parents or that they may think she's sacrificing her social life for this; I believe this skill is important for the children, and let them enjoy playing instrument for better growth in life.

  • @Kalen1457 Well that's what the world is today. It's all about effectiveness and playing these pieces at younger and younger age. If I would be her teacher I would not let her play this piece. There are parts that works just fine, but whenever it gets really hard, she have to cheat a bit. I'm not saying she is not doing great work, but after some years it just would be so much better, so I can't see why to do it now.

  • @Kalen1457 They have Asian mothers.

  • @Kalen1457 They're virtuosi!

  • @Kalen1457 practice and dedicated parents!!

  • @Kalen1457 Liszt was 6 when he began composing.. Not sure how old he was when he wrote Un Sospiro

  • @caszidy215

He was around 37. since un sospiro was composed in about 1848 according to wikipedia

  • Wow! Incredibly inspirational.

  • wonderful!

  • If they have so many brilliant young musicians in Asia it's because they have very good teachers. I would like to know them.

  • This is so breathtakingly beautiful...thank you Rachel.

  • Oh God!!!

  • What a clever talent!! Wow! So wonderful.

  • Gorgeous

  • she has too work twice as hard watch her she sometimes has to reach over due to her fingers being so small but she does it perfectly! Amazing.

  • What a great talent you are!!!!!!!

  • Opinion of a master. If YOU say this, she IS !!

This is one of my favorits of Liszt. I enjoyed myself moretimes and support her with rating.

Searching on Youtube I discovered the world has much talented girls and boys.

    (Granddaddy) Cor

    Netherlands

  • By master I mean Pianoloverok. What I wrote is a reaction to his comment.

  • wonderful. God keep blessing her and her gift.

  • Bravissima!!!!

  • I'm speechless, I don't even know what to write! You're so wonderful, but just "wonderful" doesn't do you justice!

  • Rachel, this is an absolutely stunning and beautifully interpreted performance. Your voicing is lovely.

  • ? 8_(

    very nice

Quanto studi?? Vivissimi complimenti!!

  • I loved it !!

    incredibly wonderful !!

  • How long did it take this incredible little girl to learn this incredible little piece? How many hours does she practice each day?

  • Not such a little piece, especially for a 9-year -old. And I think I read somewhere that she has a lot of schoolwork and only manages to get in 1 hour a day. I find that absolutely amazing.

  • I don't believe this! So wonderful control, sound, phrasing and style. Finally I found real prodigy.

  • gratz to her, her teacher, her parents and her supporters!

  • Unbelievable....

  • Wow!! Amazing! She is so young... and playing Liszt this way.. It is marvelous! Congratulations

  • ...

  • What an extraordinary gift, you are blessed with technique and interpretation - through lots of hard work and innate genius.

  • no, you are stupid.

  • no this is the way this song is supposed to be played.... the chords are not broken by her, Liszt wrote it that way. The song is continuous Arpeggios while the melody is played separately.

(if you look at the score, the melody is in a 3rd line while there are arpeggios on the "normal" treble and bass cleft)

  • No! You just need to be able to reach an octave to play this piece.

  • Great fingers and ear. I heard she's

    ten. She could work on

    her pedeling

    a little.

    still,

    nice.

  • jesus this kid is so awesome. No mistakes, all dynamics are dilivered.....i'm rendered speechless

  • It is exciting to see how much you have improved! Excellent work!

  • This is incredible, and very good, keep it up

  • This kid improved dramatically within the past year!! Awesome musician! She will be playing on a concert stage in no time.

  • I laughed in amazement when you started throwing those cross-overs in there. Very nice work. Be proud of yourself, you deserve it! ^_^

  • Hey.. I've been watching your videos..you're marvelous.. When did u start playing? I'm starting now.. but I'm 27;-) hope to be 1/20 of you in about 10 years..;-) Anyway a bilion of compliments.. really fantastic..

  • even cricket?

  • jero13595- This is actually one of the concert etudes.

  • I know that... Ok never mind, I take back all the things I said last time. On 2nd thought, I think Rachel plays this very well especially for her age.
