Her playing, agift from God. Her dad recently said, she only has time to pracitice one hour every day on school days. She is at a small recital hall in Carnegie Hall this December. She is now 13.
That's one of the most (in)famously difficult piano pieces where the melody needs to be played one note by the right and next note by the left hand (and so on) - it's beyond me how some people can manage this level of technique at such early age - I am not envying them (learning the piano was never my cup of tea), I just LOVE them!!!
You will rarely hear this played "flawlessly". she does a great job, though, and I think her interpretation is INCREDIBLE for anyone, much less a young lady like this. I can't believe i get to see and hear this for free!!!!
It's kinda crazy kids playing such stuff. They are to young to understand un sospiro and don't have the emotional maturity to really get what they are playing. But well, it's technically amazing.
I really hate to admit it, but that was beautiful. Although I'm working on this now, and I can hardly hear this song (much less play it) without getting all emotional.
i doubt she really understands the feeling behind...I've been playing piano since I was 6 and when I was learning back then, I was just imitating what my piano players and cds sounded like. Admittedly, I sounded damn good back then because I didn't understand stage fright, didn't feel like 3 hour practises a day were too long at all and just doggedly did what I was told. Now that I'm 17, I actually get what I'm trying to convey, but I want to have more spare time and don't play as well as I can.
@jaggedtears Don't be sad, it's just the way the brain works. It's very difficult for someone in their 30's to learn new stuff, our brains are no longer developing like a child's. Children's brains simply absorb and retain information faster than adults. I'm in my 30's right now and trying to learn chess,( it's hard,) and it sucks that there are hundreds of kids under 12 in my state who could crush me. I just remind myself that if I was twelve I'd be just as good.
@jaggedtears i know. But it's better for us to change sadness into happiness, or we won't be able to play music anymore or try difficult pieces like Liszt. This girl is not supposed to demotivate you and me to progress, but to inspire us : passion and work will help.
@jaggedtears Why is it sad ? It makes me happy to see that girl working so hard and having so many skills. We have to be happy for the young generation or we are just old selfish and jealous assholes
-.- I don't want to know how her parents treat her to force her to such perfection. But you can tell by the way she's dressed. This may be a great piano player but I feel sorry for her.
Geez, and her feet barely reach the pedals! She doesn't have it perfect but she still does it with more style and grace than some more accomplished pianists on here. I struggled with this for years, now I can't even remember it. Those parts at 2:24 and 3:35 drove me nuts...and she breezes right through them!!! I could do the left hand, I could do the right hand, but no way I could ever get both. Frustrating, albeit fabulous piece of music! (Gonna have to try it again I guess, lol!)
not all asian parents fit the stereotypical soul crushing work ethic of practicing ridiculous hours a day. they usually practice an hour or 2 a day. try it and youll get far. not only that, but im sure her piano teacher, like every other teaches by grade and does a study on etudes. im sure she had her own free will to choose to play this piece or not. not every kid wants to grow up to be an athlete, everyones different. some dream of reciting beautiful pieces on the concert stage.
@chrislpp what's your point of comparing this girl to the guy who u call a "real virtuoso"? this girl plays with superb musicality, that guy too? this girl can play la campanella, chopin etudes, can that guy? blindfolded means nothing, if u think being able to play just like a robot is just everything in the classical music forum then u r the one who should talk nothing about music. if u really cast doubt about whether this girl should be a virtuoso compared to that guy, upload his video then!!!
People think that it's cruel to make people learn the piano from a young age, but I really don't understand why, so many famous pianists all started the piano from a young age, there are few who started in their teens or as adults. Martha Argerich started when she was three, arthur rubinstein started when he was two...
-I agree, but let's look at it from another point of view.
Its cruel not to let them play the piano if they are gifted, and have passion towards the instrument. @rachel: Great playing, you have a beautiful charm, Rachel!
Even if I could play this song =.= My hands would break off and die before I could finish even the first 5 lines XD She's awesome <33 Her hands are so swift and light.
I'm not saying she's playing badly, in fact, the beauty of her playing is beyond comprehension; however this talent is only a result of fastidious and demanding parenting of a girl who probably didn't want to play piano in the first place.
no your not. She is no better than you. You know what Albert Einstein said? He said "Before god we are all equal" Im not a crazy religious person just so you know. But after reading that as I was passing the board, I've realised how talented each one of us are.
Am definitely learning this piece!! I'm always procrastinating... my teacher before has played this and that's where I first heard this piece... then it was played in the TV series Kings.. I admire rachel because despite her physical limitation (small hands) she managed to play this very well!!! all the best to rachel!
This is wonderful! I can even feel her expressions! It's so nice to watch these young children play so well.. It isn't as intimidating as watching Hamelin! lol!
My grandmother played at Carnegie Hall in the 30's...The tempo on this piece is prefect....When I listen to most, I feel like someone is running after me.....
@Kalen1457 Love it! We should encourage young enthusiast to play more Romantic pieces. It might give some people an unnatural fear that she's being forced to play by her parents or that they may think she's sacrificing her social life for this; I believe this skill is important for the children, and let them enjoy playing instrument for better growth in life.
