Yep and that protection ended in 1989 with Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 incident. Relations were further deteoriated by US supporting Taiwan independece by frequent US CArrier battlegroup patrol visits, sales of weapons to Iran and everything was toppled with 2001 incident involving P-3 Orion near Hainan island and Chinese fighter whose pilot was killed. Further deteoriarions go on with ASAT tests on both sides. No way USA are allies with China, get it over man.. they were once, not anymore
Just like U.S. President Eisenhower threatened Britain with dumping British debt, ruining British Sterling pound, and ruining British economy, Wikileaks said China has already used U.S. debt as leverage in Taiwan case.
China possess the capacity, along with Russia, to be mortal threats based on capacity alone, but China lacks the motive or intention to hurt U.S. economy. Look at the trade deficit, I'm sure China will want to milk America as long as possible.
It seems that the Chinese have forgotten how the Soviets helped them fight off japanese... how they would have been doomed without Soviet support! And their bared their fangs against their old friends!
@Flankymanga, I think that unfuturnate period had a lot to do with both cultures' differences. Althoungh both countries were ideologically the same, we really didn't know each other very well as people. China looked up to USSR as a big brothers, however, China had been the big brother to other countries for all its history, it simply didn't know how to be little brother. On the other hand, Russia didn't know China very well either, half the time it gave China wrong advices & had no patient...
@Flankymanga, however, believe it or not, Chinese people are still respect Russia & hold high regards toward its people. After all, CCP has modeled after Lenin's ideaology & PRC was built by USSR's help, although the past 30years there are some changeds, but 80% frame work remained the same. I hope people of both countries are getting to know each other better.
Yep, just like how you pryed Outer Mongolia out of China's grips juts like Tsarist Cossacks forced the reversal of the Nerschsk treaty under Aigun in 1850's, imperialist pigs.
@Phead128 those are old historical events.... you possibly don't want to ruin your relation with your neighbour over 200 years or more events. Or shall we talk about how america stole ALL the land from the natives and how China invaded Tibet?
@Phead128 so you are suggesting that Russians stole to Chinese some small land "not so long time ago"? Well i don't think that China has at the moment the right to complain - remember Tibet? That happened 50 years ago. And on top of it you gave no assistance or support to your northern colleagues while they provided you plenty of support.
Without Soviet Union and America fighting Japanese, they would have massacred your nation - and your 5000 years history would meant nothing to them.
@Phead128 Look. Chinese conquered lands that belong originally to Mongols and Tibets.
If you really want to rightfully regain control of your lands, you should also rightfully lose control of lands that were not yours. And as much as i know japanese would never be assimilated into chinese culture, rather it would be the other way arround,
Look, Russia conquered lands that originally belong to non-Russians, unless you Americans and Russians, and Europeans stop being hypocrites, you are the biggest conquerors of foreigns lands of all time, STFU, you have an obseen double standard hypocrisy.
Russia is Kievan Rus, not Siberia.
Japanese borrowed a lot from Chinese culture. Look at their writing system, it's CHINESE.
@Phead128 You are as much big of a hypocrite than those you point on... You are complaining that Chinese got land stolen, but they ALSO STOLE land from someone else - and MUCH bigger land (Tibet) than the one being in question with Russia. Tibet is Tibet not China! So YOU STFU! You are the example of double standard. Japanese borrowed from Chinese culture a lot but that does not mean they were assimilated or would be.
If you are talking about Outer Manchuria and Outer Mongolia, even Outer Manchuria alone is the same size as Tibet, let alone Outer Mongolia. You clearly don't know anything.
Just stop talking, pls. You are really embarrassing yourself.
@Phead128 and what do you think that you have lost half of world to russia? The point here is if you want your original land to be returned to you, first you need to return the land you have stolen. This is not what China wants, china wants their land back but at the same time they won't let go of Tibet. And this is why they are hypocrites like you. Im not denying the fact that Russia got some of your land, but it was certainly not that big as tibet you chinese have taken!
@Phead128 look i really like china and other asian nations. I like their style of living and especially i like their food and willingness to work. However what i don't like is their evergrowing lust for more land. In modern world the border of states have been communicated by diplomats and bilaterally approved between neighbours Russia and China. China had some disputes with Russia but as far as i know they have been solved and agreed. They wont get back to China as China wont let go of tibet.
It has nothing to do with Tibet. Tibet is one of many civilizations that China has absorbed over her 5,000 year civilization, and if Tibet couldn't secure international recognition after Imperial overthrow, Civil war, and Japanese invasion, or even turmoil of Great Leap or Cultural revolution, there is no way in hell since China is rapidly developing into a second Superpower.
Russia holds Outer Manchuria so long as China lacks the desire to take it back. Duh!
@Phead128 lol? Dude... if China absorbed Tibet, then there would be no popular resistance fronts for Tibet independence. Yet you have it there, be it through Dalailama or others. I know he is a CIA agent, but that doesn't matter too much. He is just amplyfying the will of common Tibet people to be free. And there is no way China is getting back those lands... they might try it militarily but then there will be a nuclear war and guess who holds the biggest nuclear arsenal.... Russians
China has 110 million people on the Manchuria border, whereas the bulk of Russias 140 million population is located West of the Ural mountains, some 11 time zones away. Thats farther than Washington to London, a vast emptiness of NOTHING lol China is well on her way to demographically swamp Russia Far East, it will be a matter of time when 19th century Treaty of Aigun is reversed
Let's be realistic. Russia holds Outer Manchuria so long as China lacks the desire to take it back.
@Phead128 There is so much of kyrgyz, turkmen, kazakh, uzbek and other people to fill out this gap. Give it 10 years and there will be job-turistic to Russia from these countries to fill the gap. Ofcourse it won't be that big, but actually Russia is already stealing Chinese workers from China :) But thinking that Russians would give up their land is very naive... be it for chinese or enyone else. china is forced to lack the desire to take it back - they are facing a true superpower Russia :)
My friend's father is a Department of Defense (D.O.D) strategic military analyst, a professional. He says in the event of a war between Russia and China, China would blitzkrieg up to the Ural mountains within 2 week. Russia wouldn't stand a chance in Siberia against China.
@Phead128 i guess it is the type of analyst that would say USA went to Iraq because of Terrorists and Saddams nonexisten chemical weapons. Look currently Russia by its airforce would decimate anything China would unleash. They are not so strong. Their land forces might be in bigger numbers, but aside this... if you know the current Russian military doctrine: Russia reserves the right to answer any significant foreign even convention threat by nuclear means... NUCLEAR means... got it?
Oh please, the United States would not permit you to unleash a nuclear holocaust on China.
Remember when China amassed like 8 million troops on the Sino-Russian border, and the Russian general asked the U.S. if U.S.S.R pre-emptively nuked China, would the U.S. intervene or will it give the Russians the permissiosn to nuke China. The United States was like hell no, and followed this up with the promise of U.S. nuclear protection after the Sino-Vietnamese punitive wars in 1979.
@Phead128 Oh please.... remember during operation Iraqui freedom when Russians were doing naval excercise on Indian ocean how US Navy allmost pissed its pants by making a formal complaint. Or how just recently when conducting navy excercise with japan they were forced to stop with the single Il-38 aircraft flying nearby. And first of all not Russia but China is US threat number one. They are in no way allies... don't dream... wake up into reality.
Oh please, remember how U.S. President Eisenhowever threatened British that U.S. will dump massive British treasury debt and ruin the Sterling pound and therefore the British economy if the Brits did not stop the invasion of Egypt's Suez in 1979? Of course, British withdrew, and British prime minister resigned.
If America can threaten to use British debt against her most important ally and threaten to ruin the British economy, how safe do you think U.S. feels about China? LOL
@Phead128 LOL? Totally unsafe i guess because China holds american economy tight in hands because it is china that holds american debt and that is using it against america? LOL. But nice try.... :)
Yes, China, with 1,400 million people, definitely needs America's 300 million people consumer market.
Logically, China has enough people to replace America's consumer market by FIVE (5), so don't bet your beans that China won't dump America after America has outlived her usefulness.
@Phead128 and have i indicated something otherwise? I am saying the same thing, i guess you misunderstood. You were indicating that China and America are allies, and now you are writing about how america will be left by china. Ofcourse it will... China does not need America. They are no allies. And thus if China would enter a military comflict with Russia over its "lost" land. No way america will stand up and defend China against Russian nuclear horror. They would wipe them out of earth surface.
Soviet diplomats warned Washington of Moscow's plans "to wipe out the Chinese threat and get rid of this modern adventurer," with a nuclear strike, asking the US to remain neutral.
Washington told Moscow the United States would not stand idly by but launch its own nuclear attack against the Soviet Union if it attacked China, loosing nuclear missiles at 130 Soviet cities. The threat worked, he added, and made Moscow think twice. U.S. protected China since Sino-Soviet Split.
Look, a DoD strategic analyst said China could steamroll Russia up to the Ural mountains, and given the performance of Russian armed forced in Georgia/South Ossetia, LMFAO.
@Phead128 you know what is the differrence between now and then? Its called GLONASS. Their precision GPS guided weapons could not be used as the Americans turned off GPS for that region. Now Russians have their own GLONASS. Now they would massacre any enemy precisely from great stand off ranges without risking their own assets. And lets not forget they have now their own UAVs.China would stand no chance as they would use GPS jammers and GLONASS for their own weapons.
@Phead128 I guess you haven't hear about IS program of the Soviet Union the legendary (Istrebitel-Sputnik) in the 1960s. Soviet Union by that time was the FIRST to have anti-sattelite weapons.
