You my fellow musician do this beautiful solemn song true justice. You embody the experience I know so well as I have worked the line and sometimes felt the silent solemn loneliness when you can hear the resonance and feel one with the the line. Thank you for letting me feel it once more.
An excellent tribute to a great song - your cover ranks with Keith Urban, James Taylor and ahem even Johnny Cash - I liked the segway into the lead rifs in the final verse - excellent job - I have played guitar for 30 years and I am impressed!!
Thx ! for posting this and your lesson videos,, I learned a great deal from them. You play with great feeling and emotion,, thats what makes an appealing and touching song for me,,,

"Billy Joel said, and it was at the Songwriter's Hall of Fame ceremony, that it was a song about an ordinary man thinking extraordinary thoughts. That brought tears to my eyes because he came closer than anyone to getting it." quote from Jimmy Webb
Nice job, Larry. You've enhanced your earlier versions nicely, especially with the addition of the Adamas Ovation GC! *grin* I'd like to hear you add two more elements: By 2006 Campbell had added a two-bar run in his guitar solo from the low bass chords to the 10-fret D, ending on the orchestral repetition of the sound of telephonic data transmission in the phrase "...hear you on the wire". These two elements really add to the Wichita Lineman song. I know you can handle it. v=E80727OUUDI

Great acoustic version Larry of a great song, pure real music, learning it myself now from your lesson, many many thanks- Glenn (not that Glen of course!)
Another nice cover, you like a lot of the same songs that I do. Pleasure to hear real live music in this crazy world where people think that singers with too many electronic effects who may not even be able to sing without pitch correcting equipment and where people think Karaoke is real music. The next time I hear a Karaoke dj saying he is doing a show somewhere I think I will scream as there is no such thing as a karaoke show, period!
I have loved this song since I was a kid. (47 now). This is an incredibly nice and awesome cover. Jimmy Web and GC would be impressed. You have an excellent voice and great guitar!
Lovely performance. Also one of my favorites. I use add 9 on the D and substitute G/A for A. I play acoustic bass guitar and would love to sit in with you one of these days.
Excellent performance. This is also one of my favorite songs. (I got to see Jim Webb perform this tune live in a school auditorium last week. Just great!) And thanks for providing me with the correct chord voicings.
I first stumbled across you a couple of years ago, when I was trying to learn "Just Another Day" in fact I preferred your version to the original, Paul obviously did the mix and the bass is way too over powering. Anyway, I would like to praise you for this rendition of a fantastic song. Your tutorial for this song is informative and easy to follow (once I'd figured out you'd tuned down from this version). Absolute pleasure, you've re-kindled my love for the guitar, thank you.
Loooove this song buddy !!!. I`m a Glen Cambell fan and this song is one of my favorite. I like the way you play it on the guitar. All the notes sounds just right. And I have to ask what kind of guitar that is? Keep up the nice work !!
Dude your cooking in the kitchen big time. Good solo and fills. Voice was spot on and I like how you made it your own. Thank you for sharing . This is one of my favorites also.

I love this interpretation of the song. I remember hearing this song as a kid. I like this version the best (even better than Glenn). I've listened to it over 50 times just hoping to pick up the guitar work. What a great piece of art. Thanks, Larry, for putting this out there. It's definitely my favorite.
@sbbinahee I love listening to criticism. Thanks for your input. I'll watch some more of your videos to learn a thing or 2.. Although, real musicians don't criticize other musicians publicly for their performances. It is bush league to do that in my view.
@podline66 First off, I think thise cover is awesome. Great singing, excellent guitar and, probably above all, I like the easy confidence of the performance. But I really don't agree with your comment about criticism being bush league (not even sure what that is, but I get the general sentiment). We're all on youtube, and this is a comment section. If there is no place for criticism here, where is there? That's the whole point, isn't it?
Nice job. A deep thank you. And ditto on the favorite song. One of my all time favs. Thing's been haunting me since the late 60s when I first heard it. Just bought the new Jimmy Webb CD Just Across the River. Simply sublime. If you don't have it yet, RUN!
Larry.......An incredible cover of a great song........your warm voice and how you can hold a note like nobody else is what brings me back to this often............ione marie
that was a truely inspiring version. I had trouble working all your chords out, but more or less get the gist. Certainly they accurately conveyed the mood of the song. Thanks for the performance.
Thank you man. Yours is the best version I have heard bar none. Also, by watching your version I've picked up the correct chords to make my own rendition more credible. The chord after the Bmaj7 ("County") is amazing - I have no idea what it's called but it's now in my version too. You have 9441 views on this....well 9000 were me!! Just kidding..it was only 8000. I sincerely hope we do not get a repitition of the podline66 debacle - that was simply a travesty. Best wishes, John.
i actually found myself looking for your version of this song, you've done a memorable job with this song and I actually prefer your version over many of the the others on here including James Taylor, might have to leave it a draw with Campbell though LOL
Truly one of my favorite songs as well... now even more so since hearing you sing it! You sang it so beautifully! I had been thinking about this song alot lately and was thrilled when i discovered that you covered it... Great Job!
You've truely got it down...Very well done..I am tempted to grab my guitar and start playing again...I'll be putting you in my favorites..and there's something very hauntingly familiar about you by the way!
Great solo version of a great song, loved your arrangement, you have a great talent I'll try and learn it myself. Thank you for the inspiration. I watched GC perform the song in Sheffield, England a few weeks ago, truly fantastic evening. Lucky enough to meet him afterwards, very nice guy, long may he continue. Incidently, his musical director looks very much like you, also an incredible musician
Glen Campbell's talent seems to be overlooked these days. I always liked the mood this song evoked. The lyric--I need you more than want you. I hope no one ever says that to me. How do you take that? I'll watch more of your stuff tomorrow.
@tweetypez Well, because the next line is 'i want you for all time', I'd say the speaker is expressing the ultimate desire for the person being spoken to, so if it was me being spoken to, I'd say 'thank you' and then 'are you sure?'...
Thanks for that! I've been playing this song for years with too many major chords. Your arrangement is much better and I spent an hour or two working out you chord voicings (which pick up some of the orchestral subtlty of the oringinal recording). Now when I play it (on my Ovation Glen Campbell 12 string, no less), it really swings.
@rascum211 That is great to hear... It's always cool to learn new musical tricks.. And a GC 12 too?? Life is good my friend.. Keep rockin' and thanks for your kind words..
If you don't get a couple of marriage proposals out of this, women are CRAZY. Awesome job, my friend. I feel like I just found a gold nugget just lying on the ground!
I've recently discovered you hear in the UK and I think your songs are fantastic, especially this one - wish I had a voice like yours. Sorry to hear your bad news,
hope things turn out OK for you. I'll keep listening.
Jimmy Webb, a master of words, progressions, arraingements, gave us this one to enjoy. Fabulous cover of a great, great song! Strong vocals, and guitar work! 5*****
I see you updated the song. Every once in awhile when I want to hear wichita lineman I come here and look up your rendition, which I feel is the best.
It is indeed a special song, and you do it VERY well.
First of all, larry again a great job on another fav. Second I did look up fretkillrs version of this song and while the man is very talented, he screwed this song up on the lyrics and I only wish I could play guitar half as well as he does BUT even I could pick out the wrong chords.. Bottom line is that Larry puts these videos on here because he wants to do the songs and hopfully he knows he has ALOT of fans on youtube that want to hear him do these songs.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Fom the beginning when the song is introduced for a minute, which isn't necessary, to the way it's slowed down far too much, the focus is on this guy, not on the song. The bad seedy side of youtube is all the people who love the camera too much. This is a good example of that. See Fretkiller's version of this - it''s a little more humble.
Two things. I made the video, so I'll do it my way. I think the focus IS on the song and on me too. That's what a video is for-performer AND song. I respect music, and I make every effort to do songs correctly. Bad and seedy? No. Only rarely do i introduce songs, because people have asked for it. Which brings me to point two. Fretkillr is an incredible musician, but his version of this song has a LOT of incorrect lyrics and incorrect chords as well. Is he humble because he never shows his face?
The spoken intro was 34 seconds, not a minute..Oh yeah, one other note. Fretkillr (I assume out of humility), didn't play the lead guitar solo (which is a critical part) in his version of the song. That would have shown the bad and seedy side of youtube that cooks95 referred to I guess..
@jonny1yz YOU KNOW WHAT SEEMS TO HUMOR ME HERE?.....A PERSON WITHOUT ANY MATERIAL OF THEIR OWN COMES HERE AND DISPLAYS NOT A COMMENT BUT IGNORANCE....I GUESS YOU MISSED THE SALE THEY HAD AT WALMART.....MAYBE YOU CAN GET A RAINCHECK FOR SOME CLASS!!!!
That's quite a statement for someone who doesn't even have his/hers own avatar, or even some home made video's on YT. Do you even play the guitar? I certainly believe not; if you'd known *anything* about making music you wouldn't post this comment.
Hey cooks95, before you trash podline66 watch a few more of his videos. The music is this man's whole focus. There's nothing seedy about this perfromance, it's his interpretation and he's entitled to it. You may not like it, that's your prerogative. I urge you to try some more of his stuff.
wish i could play a guitar u r great

@tweetypez Well, because the next line is 'i want you for all time', I'd say the speaker is expressing the ultimate desire for the person being spoken to, so if it was me being spoken to, I'd say 'thank you' and then 'are you sure?'...

Exactly Tweetypez, I just wanted to mention that next line, but I saw you explained it perfectly....;)!

Keep rockin' and thanks for your kind words..

excellent acoustic work.

This is a very tender rendition of this song, I can 'hear' the strings in the background, even though you haven't dubbed them. Strange.
I usually avoid amateur singing, but I'm really glad I stumbled on this.

Just an FYI...Larry is not an amateur performer.

Not the creepy kind though; don't worry, I don't plan on stalking you or anything like that.

Larry, Don't let the haters get you down. Focus on the amount of positive comments. They far outnumber the negative ones.

cooks95: if you can't hear the emotion and feeling in this song, then I feel so sorry for you. :(

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Fom the beginning when the song is introduced for a minute, which isn't necessary, to the way it's slowed down far too much, the focus is on this guy, not on the song. The bad seedy side of youtube is all the people who love the camera too much. This is a good example of that. See Fretkiller's version of this - it''s a little more humble.
cooks95 2 years ago
Is he humble because he never shows his face?
podline66 2 years ago
The spoken intro was 34 seconds, not a minute..Oh yeah, one other note. Fretkillr (I assume out of humility), didn't play the lead guitar solo (which is a critical part) in his version of the song. That would have shown the bad and seedy side of youtube that cooks95 referred to I guess..

@jonny1yz YOU KNOW WHAT SEEMS TO HUMOR ME HERE?.....A PERSON WITHOUT ANY MATERIAL OF THEIR OWN COMES HERE AND DISPLAYS NOT A COMMENT BUT IGNORANCE....I GUESS YOU MISSED THE SALE THEY HAD AT WALMART.....MAYBE YOU CAN GET A RAINCHECK FOR SOME CLASS!!!!
auntoni51 1 year ago
That's quite a statement for someone who doesn't even have his/hers own avatar, or even some home made video's on YT. Do you even play the guitar? I certainly believe not; if you'd known *anything* about making music you wouldn't post this comment.
LieutenantUhura 2 years ago 3
Hey cooks95, before you trash podline66 watch a few more of his videos. The music is this man's whole focus. There's nothing seedy about this perfromance, it's his interpretation and he's entitled to it. You may not like it, that's your prerogative. I urge you to try some more of his stuff.
