I'm 21 and back when I was 12 I was in a car crash and my teeth were destroyed and my teacher when I was 14 said my teeth is what happens when you don't brush your teeth and I hit him right in the mouth and said let me fix your teeth fatty. Got in big trouble but he had bad breath.

Candy didn't do this. These were mainly pictures of meth heads or Appalachian (or other 'red neck') children who live on Mountain Dew. If you brush your teeth you can eat candy, easy as that. A bad diet in general will also promote tooth decay, as will smoking. It's really not hard to have 'nice' teeth, especially with all the procedures dentists can do these days. But it IS a matter of having money for good foods and dental care. Until we can fix THAT, many people are doomed to bad teeth.

@osbornese : Did you really show this to your 3 year old? I'm afraid my kids would have nightmares for years if they saw this. Maybe when they're 12 or so? Anyway, they're good brushers already. We brush 'en familia' every morning, and I supervise their other brushings. (Since their schools won't allow toothpaste and brushes (yep, really!) they have learned to swish well with water after lunch, then brush as soon as they get home. And, apples in lunches are almost as good as a toothbrush.

My teeth are pretty fucked from not looking after them as a kid, they're crooked as hell and they're really off coloured. But GOOD GRAVY! These make my teeth look pristine! I guess if that's how bad it can get, there's hope for me getting mine fixed up now I've learned to take care of them!

@philbateman1989 All it takes is LOTS of money. Veneers are the quickest and cheapest way to go. They can give the 'illusion' of straight teeth, but if yours are super-crooked then braces would be the first step, followed by veneers. Pricey, but worth it I'm sure. (Also, if you live in a large city, look to a dental school for much cheaper braces. You're an adult, so you don't need 'coddling' as a child does.) Since 'invisible' braces are much more expensive, suck it up and go with 'old style'

not all these people have rotten teeth b/c of lack of brushing.what happens when, with all your brushing and good hygeine and healthy eating, one day you realize that your teeth are beginning to rot?  well, it happens. there are dozens of diseases that cause people to have caries active teeth, which are teeth that rot and get cavities no matter how well you take care of them. people like crazy horse above that compound the problem.
