  • I bet you were starting off in the wrong gear. What gear did you start at 50? Do you have 3.73's? At 50 I do 2nd gear. 55- 70 3rd. I have a '12 and they hit really hard if you start from the right gear.

  • @jasmin22cano i have a 03 Cobra...they label them "Terminator" for a reason. i see the 03-04 Cobra take down cars with more hp all the time...i dont know what else to say other than there just built right...and to think how dominate they would be if they didnt weigh as much as a tank.lol

  • 50mph is a bad launch speed forsome cobras, depending on gears. My 96' w/ 4.10's eats alot of cars at 40 & 60 launches. knew the 03' would pull. The new 5.0's are to restricted. But theres alot

    of factors, driver,mods,temp.

  • @DeAdiSSu3 Yea, I ripped on it. the salesman did the same job as me in the USAF and we were bull shitting and I told him I really wasn't interested in buying it, and he said "sweet then you won't mind if we beat it up a little" haha. Don't get me wrong it wasn't slow, it just didn't have the balls I thought it would. I didn't like that transmission at all though, I think it would have been MUCH better without a cheap chinese sourced unit.

Yes I own an S2000, 2005 NFR, mostly stock for now (boost costs $ and I don't want to just throw thousands on a credit card) I test drove the mustang for fun, why not? It is a great car and I wanted to see for myself, should I walk up to a guy on the street and ask to drive his? lol. If a sales guy is willing to let me drive it knowing I am not gonna buy, sweet for me. Good enough? haha.

  • @glock19x300 The way I sees it, under 30k for a modern muscle car that goes to-to-toe with the m3 in every category is a no-brainer. My old man being an AFA member alone gets him almost 500 bucks knocked off the price of new Fords. Oh yeah he was in for 26 years, that's why I asked. He did all kinds of crazy shit. lol. Anyway he gets other discounts / incentives for buying Ford, which is obviously cool as shit. Don't get me wrong, not biased, I own a Plymouth, but the new 5 liter motor is sick!

  • @DeAdiSSu3 With the total cost of ownership you cannot get a 5.0 for under 30K, MSRP alone is 30K + Tax and license, and that is with none of the options you are using to compare to the M3 (373, Brenmbo) so really it would be more around 36K OTD. Yea it is a great car there is no denying that, however I would not buy one, especially with the high amount of recalls on the manual transmission (MT82). For the money I would buy a 370z, feels more refined, I don't care about numbers.

  • @glock19x300 Lol, they're selling mustangs for five grand off where i'm at...that's not counting the discounts and incentives that we'd get personally, they're just on sale alot. I can get a new 5.0 for under 30k, with brembos...which is a steal. I couldn't see myself in a z, can't stand the way it looks, the exhaust note, or the way it would make me look cruising around in a chick car lol i'll risk a clunky transmission under warranty before I go for a nissan. Hey what's done to your s2000?

  • @glock19x300 i got mine with 3.73 gears and brembo package for 31k out the door. also there have been zero recalls for the manual transmission. some people are having issues but its not near as widespread as you think. ive had zero problems with mine since i got it in January. as for the 370z over a 2011 GT...no way. thats a chicks car no matter what anyone says. stock for stock i would kill a Z. you can build them up to be nasty but you can do the same with a GT for cheaper. IMO

  • @afplayboy18 Recall was the wrong word, but there has been a lot of issues. Zero problems in 6 months means nothing. It's still a great car Im not hating its by no means slow or junk, however everyone is biased... I was simply saying what I would personally buy in the same price bracket. Stock for stock a 5.0 does not "kill" a Z, it is pretty close, some people would rather sacrifice a few tenths of a second for a more refined car, not everyone is all about straight line speed.

  • @glock19x300 i think we have two very different ideas on what refinement means....a BMW M3 would be a more refined car than the 2011 Mustang GT..a 370Z would not be, IMO.  i appreciate all cars for what they are. the 370Z has its place but not against a 2011 GT just cuz its in the same price bracket, that means nothing. again, IMO, there is a reason i own a 2011 Mustang GT, the only other car i looked at for my decision was a used M3, nothing else compares for the price.

  • its about time ford came out with a DOHC 5.0, thats what they should have done years ago. The good old 4.6 dohc is still my fav, but a couple more liters/CI's helps alot. We all know the 4.6 lacks the low end grunt, but makes up for it in the mid range and topend.

  • People saying "Its because the cobra is supercharged" are retarded. Obviously if you took the supercharger off it would be slower because the compression ratio's on each are are way different. You could build a N/A cobra that puts down way more than the 5.0 using different pistons if you wanted. Super charge the 5.0 and watch it blow, where as the termi is built from the factory for that punishment.

  • @ChaseBrown06 you can also get a Whipple for the 03 Cobra and once again it will be ahead of the 5.0.. not till you pull the engine on the 5.0 and completely rebuilt it to handle high boost will it beat a comparable Terminator.

  • @black87gt how much boost can you shove into a 5.0 without changing factory internals? a stock internal 03 Cobra (it did have O ringed heads) but otherwise stock internals handled 44 psi being shoved into it(hellion hellraiser in MM&FF).. so to handle high boost, you bet your ass you need to build the hypereutectic piston, powdered metal conrod engine.. it's internals ARE NOT designed to handle high boost levels. (that's from the Coyote engineers, not me)

Ok thats what i thought, i said that you can safely run boost and big rwhp numbers without a 5.0 needing to be rebuilt. Also i call bullshit on the MM&FF pushing 44psi through an otherwise stock iron blocked 03 cobra engine. Mark (fastest stock longblock cobra in the world) has grenaded stock longblocks with 20+psi with a single hellion kit, running 8s with a touch over the 1000rwhp mark.

  • @EvenSteven2004, also, while you can make the typical GM fan boy statement of adding a blower to an already larger cubic inched motor, you can drop the same amount of money into the cobra and invest in a kenne bell or whipple, run 20+psi and it's game over for the 5.0 as well.

I have seen some dyno numbers from stock 5.0's and they both make around the same rwhp with the cobra producing more rwtq. There is some skepticism about the one that made 395hp but on average they dyno the same. If the 5.0 engine was more powerful than the cobra along with its slightly lighter weight and solid rear axle you would think they would be posting faster 1/4 mile times than the cobra.

When you put facts vs facts, the cobra is a blown motor no matter how you look at it. N/A the cobra motor puts no where near the power of a 5.0. Yet, that's from a technical standpoint. Yet, the cobra car as a whole makes around the same power as the 5.0, that much is true.

Umm...I have a 2011 GT and although it is definitely fast bone stock, I have plans to make it faster. None of my prior Mustangs stayed stock for long. It is funny that you need a blower to keep up with the 2011 Mustangs. Hell, your 4.6 could barely beat a 2011 V6 stock vs stock. If anyone should be upset, it is you.

  • @TAGA1299, I don't hate the 4.6, I'm just glad the 5.0 is finally back. It's not the same old 5.0 engine from back in the Foxbody days, but instead we got a much more powerful version. I always thought it was a shame that Ford got away from the 5.0 motor (remember the history of 302 engines for Ford?), so it's great they they are finally back again.

Fact of the matter is that this new engine makes more HP than any naturally aspirated Mustang in history. And yes, it makes more power than a Terminator (even though they have blowers). Stock against stock, the Terminator has no chance. That's a fact. But as we all know, most Terminators are not stock and aren't running stock boost levels. Another fact. Educate yourself before you post.

And don't forget we're comparing a car with a blower to a car without a blower. Put a blower on the 5.0 and it's game over for the Cobra. Everybody know this already...just look at the times the new 5.0 is running on YouTube videos.

  • @EvenSteven2004 what!. stock vs stock the terminator actually does have a chance. it might even beat the new 5.0 by a hair. a stock 04' cobra came with 390hp stock but it was found that number was sandbagged, it actually has round 420hp stock..0-60 is round 4.5 seconds and finish the 1/4mile in mid to upper 12sec. these numbers are all about the same as the new 5.0..just sayin.

The 5.0 is NOTHING like the 4.6, "it has better heads" youre a fucking moron! The bore is different, the bore spacing is different, among MANY other things. The 5.0 is a new engine and not even in the same category as the 4.6, other than them both being made by Ford.

  • @black87gt guess you better look again, both the 4.6 and 5.0 share the same bore spacing of 100mm and same deck height of 227 mm, also the same connecting rod length of 150.7mm . Sure the bore diameter is increased from 90.2 mm to 92.2 mm and stroke from 90 mm to 92.7 mm, BUT that being said one of the design constraints that Ford was under was that they had to use the same assembly line machinery to assemble the 5.0 as the 4.6 which is why it is ALSO a Modular engine and not it's own engine.

  • signast- you must be the best 5.0 driver on the planet as the best I have seen stock published in the mustang mags is low 13s to very high 12s this is with a prepped track and a pro driver and ideal conditions, most of the 5.0s I have seen run mid 13s at about 106. Again my hat off to you as you are obviously the fastest stock 5.0 on the planet, lol

  • I've had an 04 cobra that was bone stock and made passes at 12.7 I now have a 2011 5.0 that is also stock and I put down a 12.5 Riddle me that! I think the terminator is easier to drive also. If you know what your doing the new 5.0 wins every time.

  • @newmoonfishing I would like to see this race... I don't think it's easy to just state the cobra wins. 2011 GT - 412hp and 3605lbs, 03 cobra - 390hp and 3665lbs, unless the gearing is varied that much between the two, it's close for either car.

  • @tanner6112 actually Ford underrated the 03-04 cobra i hear they range from 420hp to 440hp+ stock (i've done my research.......so i'm not lieing) there hand built from svt.......they did it because they got sued in 2000 for overrating the 99 cobra and also for insurance purposes 400+hp= jump in insurance.......if i'm not mistaken i've heard rumors that the 2011 gt was significantly underrated also, but im not 100% on that.

  • Cool video and about what I expected. I test drove a new 5.0 the same day I purchased my then stock 04 Terminator and while I didn't have a stopwatch or a ET my seat in the pants meter told me the 04 was much quicker. Now go out put an exhaust, gears, tune, and CAI on that your 2011 and atleast make a race of it.

  • I honestly think the new 5.0 doesnt like boost as much as the older 4.6 cobra motor... even if you put lower compression pistons and all that... I think the new 5.0's enjoy sucking their air than having it blown in :D

    just face the music broseph 03-04 cobras are more than likley going to blow your doors off. they are 6 years old and most of them pullied if not ken bell or whippled. the new 5.0 puts down the same time as a STOCK 03-04 cobra though so dont feel bad just mod up to hang with the big boys.

  • @surenojarhead depends on how much boost your running.. 20 psi from a KB into the Cobra will be 650 to 700 hp at the wheels.. 20 psi into a 5.0 from a KB will be expensive parts ventilating the block..

    Own an 03 Cobra with just a tune and Borla Cat back, no pulley. I've owned it since october of 2002. Test drove a 5.0 6 speed this passed thursday. Nice strong fast car, very respectable, faster than the SS or SRT-8 for sure. Not quite as quick as a stock 03 Cobra.
