I have resided in Austin,Tx since 1988, and just purchased my first pair of tickets to see SLAID CLEAVES at the Catus Cafe on June 16,2011. Although he is from Maine, I would never know by enjoying his Texas style instrumentals & lyrics..Cheers...to Slaid and the rest of the band,
@DontClickOnThis Exactly how do you copy someone's voice? You sing and your voice is what it is. Talk to him and you'll easily see he simply is who he is.
@rpm4565 Singing in the voice, and emotions that God gave you is what singing in your own voice is...moreover..you know exactly how to sing from the heart with your tools. Some don't have special range gifts...they make up for it by using it correctly, and that means heart. Not "imitation" ....real....not contrived. the worst evil to a singer and audience ( hear Michael Bolton for example)
My God, how I can identify with this song. It seems like I can never get a break. Every time I think I'm making progress I get more shit to deal with. I just want to know in my heart I was an honorable man before I die.
Just discovered this guy on ITunes and bought "Broken". This song says it all for me, lousy year physically(cancer) emotionally, financially and faith wise, but always hope in the end. Like the poker references too. as I play a lot. Hey Slaid, thanks man, feels like somebody gets it..
Yes, Slaid is the "Genuine Article"! Not a lot more I could say, or would need to. He can get right to the core.
Sorry to read about your sad combination of circumstances. When things stack up against us I think we find ourselves alone trying to resolve it all as best we can. Ultimately, is not each one of us a solo act? See what you make of Bob Franke's recent YT clip, "For Real".
Happy New Year and all the very best for 2012 from Scotland.

@YourADrag Maybe Peter Case ripped off his voice. Just sayin'. I think he's singing with his own voice. I mean, really, who else would it belong to?

No sense in being pessimistic. It probably wouldn't work anyway...

i heard this song at the beginning of 2010 after a bad breakup, and it inspired me to make 2010 "one good year", which i can thankfully say it was :)

Best to you. We all have our battles/demons just don't let them have the best of ya. Grace exists, although it may seem hard to find on non-existent.
