  • Yeah. I've found actually a lot of blooming patches on neighboring cities. It's dryer here in southern California then Oregon im sure.

  • Hwy gotrocksinhead I just uploaded a video about finding an Ookow flower. I wasn't sure on the identification so I wanted to get an experts opinion. Would you mind checkin it out? Thanks!

    - Cam

  • @christcalledcowboy Hey Cam, if you want an experts opinion, you might want to look somewhere else.. Did you find that ookow flower blooming? If so you must have a vastly different climate than here!

  • got any idea what rocks are good to make arrowheads out of in the muntains of goragia

  • @minecraftman78 I really dont. Im in Oregon... long way from Goragia. you might be able to find something on the net that tells about rock there. sorry. Dan

  • Good luck for that blizzard coming you're way!

  • @zekeyo37 So far it is rain, rain and more rain... and wind! Not too bad yet. We're ready as can be for now. Bring it on!...

  • @gotrocksinhead Come on up. Won't be digging any bulbs here until June :). So far it's -38 & -53 windchill. If it goes to -40 I'm getting angry. Daughter is ranting about her move to Australia by the minute at times ehe. Naw warmed up to -25 C today fair to midlin not much wind ain't so bad. Bring it on? Which way do I point car to Oregon you say?

  • @Tossdart Probably need a jackhammer to dig bulbs up your way! Ya want bulbs?.. just point south... you'll hit us before long.

  • @gotrocksinhead Ehe almost instant messaging there. Transit owns me 6 days a week. I mentioned get 12 hr splits & only two weeks off a year. Otherwise I'd be on my way. Frost is 6" root cellars have to be below 6 feet here. Our weather went abruptly a week ago from +6 to -38 was coldest day yesterday. Only going to -34 or so tonight then a slow warming & back to +2 C or say 35 F. Overall been a nice winter. It is hard on birds at -40. Goshawks increase as well at this time of year.

  • @Tossdart heh, heh. I think it would be harder on more than just birds... I think my sorry behind would be frozen to the ground! Pretty sure it would do me in fairly quick!

  • @gotrocksinhead Yup cry for your mommy :). curse maybe! Madness I tells ya. Off to work, good im ehe.

  • @Tossdart heh heh.. seeya

  • @zekeyo37 We survived the storm! Lots and lots of rain... still raining but not as much. The rivers and streams went way up.. lots of bad flooding in surrounding areas but we didnt get it too bad.

  • good stuff!

  • @TheTribeOfBenjamin Thank dude

  • another cool vid man, thanks!

  • @shadowynne Thanks dude

  • Somewhere Dan I still have an account in Mother Earth News or something about a commune in Washington or Oregon back a lot of seasons that roadside et & kids died of cancer as a test herbicide was being used to remove blackberry. I have seen this practice & it is in wide use here for thistles.

  • them elk where so cool.you are truly blessed to live in such a location

  • @swampratman2000 Yes I am!

  • Cool Dan! The website i always refer to, to see if I got that particular plant in my area said it is in California but not my county. It usually is always right from what I understand but I'm not 100% sure..check it out, its plantsusda.gov

  • @TroutManOutdoors Thats a cool website!! They have a LOT of plants on there! Cool stuff. Thanks. Dan

  • rock on dude

  • @jeffthecheff im trying!!

  • Hi Dave!

Does the bulb has odor? Does it taste like onion or garlic?

    Géza

  • @MrMycoo It has no smell and is not like powerful like an onion or garlic. It has a very mild taste.. nothing offensive to the palate. Dan

  • I don't know if we have that here, but it looks and sounds good.

    Thanks, Roosevelt

  • @MiWilderness Thank you . Dan

  • Good info, I'll have to check my area to see if this stuff grows here in Ohio......Thanks for sharing

  • @karenchakey Thanks. It is a good one!

  • thumbs up!

  • @redwoodfox Thanks man!

  • Oops! That will teach me to watch the entire video BEFORE typing a reply. You covered the pollution issue already :)

  • @jokertim777 Tim, you are such a joker :)

  • The "roadside" part is the only thing that gives me pause. Truck and car exhaust blanket roadsides with particles that can accumulate in the leaves and bulbs of plants. Most of those particles are not conducive to good health. I'd make sure to forage in low traffic areas or farther away from roadsides.

  • Great wilderness, and very interesting edible plant.

    Thanks for showing.

    All the best.

    Greetings Tito

  • @Naturliebe Thanks Tito

  • You live in an absolutely beautiful place.

  • @tonynassih Yes we do. I love it!

  • Better watch out, some earth worshiper will report you for harming nature and stealing flower bulbs... Elk, yum... Ever do any Gold Prospecting there?

  • @CGLouisiana haha! I havent done any but there are a number of people who do.. and it's fun to explore the old mines.

  • Gotrocksinhead, I am in search of a good reference for Wild Edibles and Medicinals for the PNW.

Is there a particular book or online site that you would recomend?

  • @backhandmonkman21 I have a few I really like and refer to often. I will check them out when I get home after work today and get back to you.

  • @gotrocksinhead gotrocksinhead Thatd be great! Loving the vids! Keep it up!

  • @backhandmonkman21 Thanks. I wrote one in above in the description above. I found it on Amazon for pretty cheap. Theres some good references online too.

  • Don't know if we have ookow here, but good to know!!

  • @MrRickjitsu Thanks. I havent a clue what you have there! :P

  • only modern cave man has debitage in their truck cab. Ookow is that a native name? thanks new one for me.

  • @LivingHistorySchool I dont know. I'll do some looking and do some follow up info on ookow. Maybe I'll write it in the info box below the video. It's hazardous to drive my truck barefoot!

  • Ok, I "watched the stinkin' video"!

    What next?

:o) not as "stinkin' " as I had expected ... not at all

  • @steintanz well, Im stinking glad you found my stinkin video not as stinkin stinkin as represented. :P

  • I rarely snatch any roadside edibles cause of the gubment spray. I've been caught behind the spray truck before and got to see it shower the right-of-way. Pretty spooky looking and smelling stuff. It's really spooky to look at all the dead trees under power company right-of-ways. Those guys don't mess around. Some roads are definitely fine, though. Usually one's with no one living on them.

  • @IHatchetJack Cha! On our road, they have a guy with a hosereel and a spray gun shooting the bigger stuff. On other roads they have the continuous spray shooting a fine mist that wafts all over the place... not good for foraging! I have a really nice patch of roadside wild strawberries that were ruined with little spots all over the leaves from the spray this last summer. What a bummer!... and they were loaded with berries too!

  • Nice video Dan... looks like a couple bulls in the herd, thanks for showing.

    Greg.

  • @busycando unfortunately it is on private land.. :( Thanks, Dan

  • great to what as usual:)

    regards

    sercout

  • @sercout Why thank you very much, father to be :) Looks like things are growing well with you and yours

  • Great edible plant and cool wildlife! Great Dan, thanks for sharing, my friend. Have a good one, Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk Thank you Sepp. Happy to share

  • Roadside scavaging, cool, i think we all do that more or less,

and it often end with wet feet,

    fredde

  • @hobbexp haha. Yep, for sure! Some of the best goodies are down in the wet ditches.
