  • I'm a big fan of SRV, but keep things in perspective. This is NOT the best version I've heard of this song.

It's a 'no lyrics' copy of the version published on the "Hendrix in the west" album, which is far more powerfull and intense and with a better sounding strat too..

search on little wing hendrix in the west. check the one uploaded by musicarchivio

    enjoy!

  • This is an incredible song. Both artists get credit--Hendrix the songwriter, and Stevie for hearing and taking it to its full potential.

  • Stevie made every cover he did his own......the best ever in every aspect.

  • I had to put a jacket on because this gave me the shivers <3333

  • This song simply knocks me down...

  • Its amazing to me this is a cover. SRV took it to a level Jimi never could.

  • @rokdogO13 ... I understand the respect in your comment, but Jimi wasn't a white texas bluesman, living in the late 70's and 80's, He was Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie was Stevie. Like saying Photo Journalists today do better pictures than Picaso. Two different era, men, and forms of art, with a common goal.....

  • @sincityblues85 well said, each artist is different but equally talented and the music is their own regardless of who was the originator.

  • @rokdogO13 You don't think Jimi could've made this song an extra 3 or 4 mintues longer ? Its wasn't about a dragging the song out .It was a dedication to his mother from what I understand. That's the different between these two.Jimi was an artist. He created and opened a whole new avenue for guitarist to travel.SRV was only living in the house that Jimi built. If you don't agree let me ask you this.Name a song originally written by SRV we can compare to Little Wing? That's being said SRV was solid.

  • Music so gentle it touches the soul, thumbs up if you agree.

  • I've always preferred Jimi's version to this one...but at the same time, SRV kills this...Just takes it and makes it his own. One of the greater musicians that has ever lived.

  • Even if i could play this exacly like he does, it wouldn't be the same. I would just be playing with a guitar, Stevie will always play with his soul.

  • the main difference i noticed between Stevie's cover and Jimi's performance was in Jimi's case, everything just seem to came naturally and effortlessly, while it sounds like Stevie really had to work to get this song down. Thats not to say Stevie isn't a great guitarist, i just prefer Jimi's Little Wing over this one.

  • @theMZA1995 I disagree

  • @rokdogO13 alright, well everyone has their own opinion :)

  • i have literally gotten high off this song. completley lost in the music.

  • Humboldt Forever

  • the first comment i see shouldn't be about money - dammit RIP SRV! \m/ I'll see you in concert one day! side by side with Randy Rhoads bumpin' 'Get-fucked-red-cups' with DIO ! -Rubeer

  • just to make it clear....I strongly believe stevie ray would say Hendrix is the better guitarist, but I know hendrix was so humble he would not claim that

  • how can anyone possibly dislike this?? geez people

  • @JThundered Because it's not the original-ever heard of Hendrix???

  • @TheBradGuitar jimi's version its awesome, but this one can entertain you for longer time =P

  • Any time i hear someone redo a jimi hendrix song i get really angry and annoyed. only someone as amazing as stevie could do hendrix justice!

  • @scrambledpenis would actually like to see Eddie Vanhalen try it

  • Just hearing the amp buzz and those notes flowing from it just brings goosebumps like theres no tomorrow. Stevie was and still is the white Hendrix!!!

  • Nice-like having a good trip$

  • wow, tune.

  • i had this album on cassette tape back in 1993 :)

  • @joy1ess true fan

  • The absolute finest version of Little Wing. I must've listened to this version a thousand times!

  • If there is heaven? I want to go to gods concert every night

  • Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix are battling in the skies right now who's better? TRICK QUESTION!!!! THEY ARE BOTH EQUALS!!!

  • Feel is of course important, but with a shitty technique you can have how much feel you want but it will still sound bad.

  • Unbelievable guitar player.

  • skilled and technical ,,,,yeah right ,,,,all missing the point its all about the feeeel,, n ,,flow !!

  • The most beautiful guitar solo ever.

  • Man I love Jimmy, he's tops, innovator, one of the best, but then I heard Stevie play this and, . . .. Jimmy, I know this is sacrilegious, but Stevie tops you here. An AMAZING feel and technical display. One of the most underrated guitar players. I think it's because he's not just Mr. shred. But there is certainly no one better EVER than Stevie Ray Vaughn. Brilliant.

  • @probrojeffro how is srv underrated? he's hailed as one of the best guitarists the world has ever known

  • @JesterxMailman81 Not by enough, that's for sure.

  • jimi would be impressed by this, just shows the quality of 1 of the most simple but brilliant genres of music

  • fuck u kenny wayne shepard. if u dont give credit to the ones u stole from. colin james gives credit. stevie taught him.

  • stevie was asked about jimi. he said i wanna be jimi hendrix. kenny wayne was asked about stevie, and he said i think we have alot of the same influences. i dont listen to kenny wayne anymore.

  • 7 assholes

  • Sauf que c pas une chanson DE Stevie mais de Jimi

  • Stevie .. Your music has inspired Me To Build may Amplifiers and without you I may never have built my first 4 x10 ... Thank you From the bottom of my Hart .. You opened up My Mind ... You are a part of everything I have done and Will Do... Thank You Stevie ..Thank You ..

  • Music like this is Life changing ...

  • I think I'm responsible for about 60,000 of those plays, surprised there aren't more.

  • S U B L I M E.

  • @SoulPowerful dont mention that bands name on a srv video

  • @DRGK9 Saying "sublime" doesn't mean its a reference to the band; it is a word that means "of such excellence as to inspire great admiration or awe," so it's a pretty big compliment :)

  • The riff that begins at 3:20 must be "the most impossible to repeat" riff in guitar history. It gives me chills every time I listen to it.

  • @jpnelis I don't reckon its be best riff in the song though. 0.48 is top of the line. the real deal. the deal breaker. the money maker. the mother fucking killer

  • Words aren't enough to describe how good this is so I won't bother trying. Bless him.

  • 3:36 is just absurd. Great great cover by a great guitarist

  • aguante tu vieja puto

  • how come this song is not on guitar hero?

  • @Eric30034 because this is real guitar

  • i jack off while im shitting

  • @larrybiggs1 cool story bro

  • @larrybiggs1 and you probably molest children

  • @CoolGuyEnt just yours

  • @larrybiggs1 good one lol

  • RIP..SRV..we miss you man........

  • i dunno what's better jimmy's version or srv's version

  • advertizing has ruined youtube

  • It's a business that allows this to happen so that you can enjoy SRV we all have to make money I'm sure that you dont do too much for free..it's ok maybe you just dont have and understanding of basic economics>>>>SRV rules and thank you youtube for allowing this to happen n @KetamineAddict

  • @KetamineAddict Oh noes i have to wait a whole 5 seconds for the clip to start dammit

  • @KetamineAddict Would you rather pay for YouTube access or endure a 15 second advertisement before the song?

  • @OneMetaLLica420 The thing is that most people would never understand that servers cost money. Especially with an Array like youtube has. And what appreciation does google get, thats right! They only get complaints!

  • @OneMetaLLica420 before google took over those ad's didnt play... at least not outside us, cause let's face it, in the us you get thrown to death with ads

  • @OneMetaLLica420

I have never thought about it that way.. "thumbs up" for you!!!!!

    Love your name too :)

  • @OneMetaLLica420 Firefox + Adblock+ and no problem with the advertisements b4 the video u fkn Chrome Noob ... I havent seen an ad since 2008 .... lol

  • @KetamineAddict Adblock plus works, altough it hurts for youtube

  • @KetamineAddict use adblocker then

  • Yellow ledbetter by pearl jam stole this sound! :p

  • Bad ass

  • Who can compare? Each were a season of fresh air in their time. Much study, much practice, much playing of rare talents that mesmerized with their virtuousity and creativity. Both will outlive posterity. True poetic guitarists!

  • of course Hendrix was SRV's influence, its why he did so many Hendrix tunes. i believe that even Hendrix would give Stevie Ray kudos for how he heard and played Jimi's tunes. one guitar god learning from another.

  • @JAngelGuard144 Definately. I'm sure Jimi would have been knocked out by SRV's sound. It's odd because sound wise they are very different, but they both seem to share that magical soul and feeling that sets them aside from another other guitarists I've ever heard.

  • epic

    period

  • Greatest guitar sound ever

  • one of the best covers ever period

  • if Jimi and Stevie were both still alive today....

it would be the best guitar rivalry/battle etc, the worlds ever seen.

  • @CurtisPEERS i would think they would like each other.. they have no reason not to!

  • @CurtisPEERS Why does it have to be a rivalry or battle why can't they just work together or jam together?

  • Comment removed

  • @CurtisPEERS And my money would be on SRV. He'd eat up so many axemen today by the dozens.

  • Comment removed

  • @CurtisPEERS SRV was more technically skilled. And Jimi was more innovative. It should be wrong to have to choose.

  • @Blusideup Well it isn't, and I choose SRV, with ease.

  • @SoulPowerful well then your dumb. All Stevie did was emulate jimi. So you just chose a carbon copy. good for you

  • @Blusideup No he didn't emulate him. Stevie could play better than Jimi and Jimi himself would admit it if they were both alive today. Listen to how clean that guitar is. Jimi could write a damn good song and sing better than SRV but on the guitar, SRV wins any day of the week. Just listen to this song...Jimi didn't play all this!

  • @MastinoNapoletano420

yeah & I thought people would get offended if I said Jimi wrote the words to an SRV song.

  • @MastinoNapoletano420 the only reason srv plays this kind of music is cuz jimi invented it.... SRV may be more technically skilled, but jimi was basicaly the father of his ability,

  • @Blusideup I thought everybody knew that

  • @CurtisPEERS I'm sorry to tell you but there wouldn't be a battle

  • @CurtisPEERS nah man...it ain't like that in the blues.....we all play together...

  • @CurtisPEERS more like co-op, it'd be great seing them work together!

  • @CurtisPEERS I don't think so.. although Jimi obviously deserves respect, (he created distortion for gods sake) But he was nowhere near Stevie's level of skill. Stevie is the best blues guitarist EVER. not to mention vocalist. Stevie beat him at both, that's my opinion at least.

  • @CurtisPEERS don't think it would be a rivalry.... more like the best jam session we had ever seen of them playing together...

  • @CurtisPEERS i would like to think they would team up

  • @CurtisPEERS I don't think they'd have a rivalry or a battle. I think they would rather work together to produce even greater music.

  • @CurtisPEERS

    Indeed, my friend ... indeed.

  • The best cover ever

  • One of the best musical recordings ever. Next time, listen in your headphones. It's like being in the control booth. This is a very intimate version. You can almost feel the urgency in his fingertips.

  • Beautiful.

  • yes i agree sit back 'n listen

  • been playing guitar for more than 4 years...if i could trade every song i can play for the memorization of this song and ability to play it at hand....i would not think twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i'm playing this at my friends moms funeral on saturday

  • Is it illegal to love this even if i am high?

  • Well...Your uneducated ramblings below show you evidently don't know what 'Ignorant' means. And by the way....You were in the "comments section of a SRV cover of one of Jimi songs" way before me. Oh dear...shall we move to the letter 'C' for...Contradiction. You're like a petulant child. Hendrix would have found both you & your blinkered (Ignorant) views laughable. For a so called admirer of his work...you've let him down......badly Sir. Shame on you. Good luck in life friend...you'll need it.

  • Not terrible--just idiotic. Why listen to this when you can listen to the original? It's much better anyways. I mean, aside from having Noel's soft bass or Mitch's sinister drums, what made Jimi's so original is that it was psychedelic. It was something no one had seen before. SRV is a good guitarist, but he will never, I repeat, NEVER be as good as James Marshall Hendrix. Who does SRV inspire? The sheepish "classic rock" public? If it weren't for Hendrix, Stevie'd be playing on the streets.

  • @Transformers2themax Hey Joe! Be it Stevie or Jimmy.........just relax, listen and enjoy... you fool!

  • @mitch120564 I'm sorry, but SRV doesn't deserve all the fame he's getting off Hendrix's work. Jimi was a fantastic guitar player and he was also an underrated poet. Most of his songs meant something, this one in particular. So SRV covering it and getting all the glory, as if HE wrote it, is just wrong. Jimi Hendrix is already under-appreciated by the people of my generation. Why is it that SRV gets all the acclaim when it's not even his song? It's not fair. God, you people are so ignorant.

  • @Transformers2themax Hello again....No need to be sorry. Stevie Ray Vaughan spoke of Jimmy Hendrix as being a huge influence on his work & credits covering Hendrix pieces as a tribute to the man. By the way Jimmy himself credits influences such as Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley so does that still make him a ''poet'' or a thief?..well in your view it must be the latter. I think Jimmy Hendrix would have taken your turn on the word ''ignorant'' as quite amusing. Get yourself a dictionary.

  • @mitch120564 I know what the word "ignorant" means. And I already knew that Jimi had some inspirations. However, when I'm referring to him as a poet, I'm talking about the lyrics of the songs he wrote. You may not believe it but they all do mean something, Little Wing especially. You're calling him a thief? Lol! You're calling Jimi Hendrix a "thief", when you're in the comments section of an SRV cover of one of Jimi songs! Just because you're inspired by somebody, doesn't mean you're stealing.

  • @mitch120564 Just because you're inspired by somebody, doesn't mean you're stealing. THIS, on the other hand, is obviously stealing. I mean, he did cover it without Jimi's permission. No, just because his family may have, doesn't mean Jimi himself did. I cannot believe this got a Grammy and Jimi's, the original, got left in the dust. You people are sheep. "Lets follow what's more recent!" Fucking fanboys. You're just like the fanbase of Metallica and AC/DC.

  • This is the greatest cover of any Hendrix tune. Hendrix made SRV the player he was, but I would be willing to bet that SRV is teaching this version to Hendrix right now in the Afterlife!!

  • Comment removed

  • nipple boners. every f*cking time.

  • we actually played this at my dad's funeral in 2005....absolutely amazing song...this is music. <3

  • Comment removed

  • i cried

  • 4:40 octaves section is smooth as silk

  • @gigliott2000 I know right, Him and Steve Vai are two of the few guitarists I know that can pull off octaves as smooth as that. Steve Vai's in tender surrender's into are just KILLER.

  • The part at 3:24- really shows how fanatically amazing SRV is at holding rhythm.

No one can play that bit like he can. I've tried winding up that speed slashing part, and couldn't.

  • R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix...Y'all will always be legends in my book.

  • i remember when this 1st came out....and i remember when jimi 1st did this song. ive always felt like stevie did this song in total reverence and awe of jimi. i love both version and played stevies cut at my wedding = )

  • Stevie Ray i\s the only person that can take a great piece of work and make it his own!

  • He was taken from us too soon. I guess god needed an awesome musician to jam with the angels.

  • It's a great cover, but anyone who thinks this is better than the original is a mental.

  • 4 people are DEAF

  • This song is probably the single best guitar recording ever. You can feel stevie pooring his heart into it. Its amazing that stevie took a pop song from one the most unique guitar players ever and turns it into this.

  • @skylineqrt4

I agree, it is the best recording ever. Nothing has the same power and soul than this. I have never loved a song more than this.

  • way better than Jimi, all though both could play the guitar like it was nothing.

  • R.I.P good music

  • 4 dislikes...theyre all rotting in hell

  • @HiImWilfrdBrmly & probably being forced to listen to Devo

  • damn this song is good

  • Correction on the David Bowe statement. Jackson Brown was the one who gave Stevie his break. Jackson was in the middle of meeting during Stevie's show when his band came to tell him about the guy on stage, Jackson replied "I'm busy guys it's going to have to wait." To which his mates said "no, you need to come right now, this guy is incredible."

  • I think that this version is superior to hendrix's. they're both good, but vaughn's wins all the way

  • @KillingJoke95 I concur, both are great but Jimi's version is to short.

  • i can finally play the beginning!!! now to get the other 5 minutes of goodness :)

  • does anybody know how old he was when he got famous. I always wounderd that.

  • @jonrusch92 Fairly young. He was discovered by one of his brothers band mates. Then when he was low profile till hewas about he mid 20s. He played at the montreux jazz festival in Switzerland. Thats when Stevie was discovered. David Bowie was in the crowd watching him and he was astonished. Stevie then played on his soon to be best selling record "Lets Dnce" Thats really how he got ton the music scene.

  • I would have loved to hear him sing it...

  • This will be played at my funeral...it's in the will....

  • @chylde0ffyre mine too :)

  • @chylde0ffyre nice choice

  • @chylde0ffyre ...and on your deathbed as well...listen one more time before you head out on your journey. Exit, stage left.

  • @chylde0ffyre amazing!!!! I have the same idea listenig this song, before reading your message....you know - to be played at my funeral...I'm a woman learnig to fly and "I'm walking through the clouds, with a circus mind that's running round, butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales, that's all I ever thinks about.....riding with the wind"......addicted to fly with my little wing.....

  • @chylde0ffyre it LITERALLY is in my will that this will be played at my funeral.

  • @chylde0ffyre Noone can't play like that, the q is who will play at funureal ?! :P

  • the high D bend to E is what gets me...

  • cover is so fucking epic

    3:36

    uhhhhh *jizz*

  • @fastfingers0 I don't want to say this is better than Jimi's but well... I'm thinking it. If Jimi had sang along with his guitars it would have been purely amazing, or better, if they both played guitar at the same time! If i could see that i could die happy... seriously. They both died far too soon...

  • @CthulhuDarkLord Litsten to Jimi's Royal Albert Hall version, its only shortcoming is the solos are simply too short. I think it's pretty clear it's from that performance, and not the the studio version, that Stevie Ray got his main inspiration for this.

Listen to the two successively and you can construct a pretty good idea of what Hendrix might have done if he'd ever gotten around to doing an extended improvised version of the song like this.

In any event both versions are superb.

  • @polymath7 Thanks, i will check that one out. I agree though, if Jimi was around longer, we would have seen some amazing improvisions, and a lot of improvements in his playing. To imagine Jimi even better, it's hard to imagine.

  • Damn.....the thing i've always loved and tried to reflect in my own playing is stuff like this. SRV and Hendrix among many other greats really knew how to make the guitar tell the saddest stories their touch was truly amazing. This isnt something i see many player do nearly as well these days.

  • I always have a heavy heart when I hear this from that Strat master..He is missed very much. RIP Stevie..

  • Merry Christmas! Stevie wherever you are.My favorite word on this EARTH is BULLSHIT because that is all I see happening on it.My most hated word is sacrifice because we are not to sacrifice anything ,that's was the purpose of JESUS doing what he did for us.Merry Christmas! Let's work together to drive the evil down deeper and deeper.

  • Take heart jewtangclan420, the Fender Guitar promo has gotten over 2 million hits.

The live version got over 9.5 Million hits.

The memory of SRV is not even close to being gone. A legend lives on....

  • I try covering his version, but i cant do this song the justice i want yet, equipped with a lenny-esque guitar, musical notes guitar strap, hat, heavy gauge strings, and a little of my own flavor just as the great man would have wanted.

Favorite guitarist i ever have listened to, lived, breathed, loved

  • hard to say a cover is better than the orignial but this is exactly that

  • @rolltideroll52

I have been saying this since I heard SRV's version of Little Wing. Thanks to Hendrix for writing it but thanks to SRV for perfecting it.

  • @OldsRocket78 exactly

  • such a bad ass song! sad this doesnt even have 150k views and stupid shit like drake and all these randoms who suddenly pop up and are famous over night. stevie will never die in my book, hes the KING!!

  • @jewtangclan420 at least one of these videos with little wing has almost 10,000,000 views
