  • The vote happened, and the rezoning overwhelmingly passed, despite our best efforts. Now what?

  • According to the city, The park is going to be 27 acres now and there will be a year round amusement area. A compromise yeah...but better then shrinking the place :(

    Btw...I live in Coney :\

  • I'll believe it when I see it. This year alone, we lost the Go-kart tracks, the batting cages and most of Beer Island, not to mention Astroland. It's a freaking ghost town! We need amusements! Build the hotels and high rises on the North side of Surf, restore the Shore Theater and put up some world-class rides, not the carnival crap they have up now!

  • Yeah...I know...Its kinda pathetic isnt it? I didnt go to the amusement park this year even though I live 6 blocks away.

I'm guessing thor equities are to blame? Those bastards :(

  • We can't let this happen!!! Save Coney Island, call your rep, go to a rally!!!

  • hey im that guy in the leotard in the begining impersonating zigun himself WHATS GOOOOOD.

  • Gooba gabba, gooba gabba. One of us, One of us!

  • Janissa 47,

    What's your game?

  • Zigun plays both ends against the middle. He wants everyone to support entertainment in Coney Island. But when people asked for his support in getting a concert amphitheater constructed there instead of in a small park a few blocks away, he shut up.He wants us to call politicians & save Coney Island. But he SUPPORTS politicians who want to destroy a park just a few blocks away. You can't have it both ways Dick. You can't be the patsy of politicians. We're wise to your game.

  • FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES: published July 12-2009:

"We like the Municipal Art Societys idea of doubling the size of the amusement area and removing hotels from the south side of Surf Avenue. This way, when visitors get off the subway, they will meet sunlight and open air, not a high-rise barricade. We hope the Council steps up and gets the job done."

  • Call #3:

If you REALLY want to Save Coney Island, also call Speaker Christine Quinn and deliver the same message.

    Christine Quinn's legislative office: (212) 788-7210.

PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS. WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET!

  • Call their LEGISLATIVE OFFICE number first. Try calling during the workday.

    * Tell them you live in their district.

    * Tell them that you're calling about the plan for Coney Island currently under review by City Council.

    * Tell them Coney Island is an issue of CITYWIDE concern and that the current plan would RUIN Coney Island forever.

    * Tell them that the area for open-air amusements needs to be EXPANDED and that the proposed high-rise hotels need to be MOVED out of the amusement area.

  • Who's modding all the Save Coney comments down? Smells like developers trying to disrupt a grassroots campaign, to me...

  • Growning up in nearby Bensonhurst, I only hope the city does the right thing. Joe Sitt, another local, should also keep the best interests of all the people in mind. No hotels on South side as amusement district is too small already. Let's keep big box out as well and restore this unique area back to its former glory with a modern twist. Bloomberg, don't mess up this oppty!

  • Let's not lose yet another important piece of American history. Dick Zigun, who in 1980 played a major part in the creation of Coney Island USA, is absolutely right. Build a new, vibrant, word-class amusement district and the revenue will pour in for everybody. Yes, build the hotels, in the late 1880's Coney Island was a famous seaside resort, but build them on the north side of Surf Avenue, and keep amusements in the amusement district. Please do what you can do to help! Gary Beeber

  • Thanks for this video...I now have a better understanding of the evil plot to take over Coney...I want to help but I live in Jersey, is there any way I can help?

  • We may only get one chance to do this right folks!

If you care about having rides in Coney Island then call your council member or Christine Quinn's office now!

Thank you DZ for the great video, and for keeping the pressure on!

We really appreciate your hard work for Coney! Would that I were still a New Yorker, but I'm on the phone to all my NY friends!

    Yours

    -John

  • Call the speaker of the city council:

    Christine Quinn's legislative office: (212) 788-7210.

  • The Bloomberg administration's plan to shrink Coney Island's amusement district and to block it off with four high-rise hotel towers is now before the City Council. They have until Monday, July 13th to request changes to the City's plan.

If you want to save Coney Island, PLEASE CALL your City Council member TODAY (the sooner the better!).

  • Call their LEGISLATIVE OFFICE number first. Try calling during the workday.

    * Tell them you live in their district.

    * Tell them that you're calling about the plan for Coney Island currently under review by City Council.
