when i think back to elementary years, i sure wish someone had made an investment in my "needs". i wasn't a struggling student, i was gifted. only one teacher recognized my ability and recommended advanced math, but the choice was mine and i declined, for social reasons (fear of being made a target of abuse). family was a failure which left teachers as the only hope. that memory of my loss will stay with me forever.
