No - you never put a cap on the pipe. The system creates much more water then will ever fall in it. Also birds, bats, other animals usually stay away due to the air flow. A better question is why did you not install a disconnect box on the outside per national electric codes? Once again spend the money on the housing - fans are just ugly
Thank you for the question. They normally put a 45deg elbow on the top to prevent water entry and damage. Sometimes we will see a tee or 90deg elbow but that is rare.

Is there a rain cap or elbow on the top of the exhaust to prevent water, icing, etc?
