This is the most memorable MST3K episode for me. It first aired when I was visiting my grandma and my whole family was there. Since no one was watching TV, I asked my dad if my brother and I could tune into the show. We laughed so hard at the "jumping on the couch bit," because my grandma was just as strict. My uncle first came and in to see what was funny and gradually joined in. By the time they were singing Hobgoblins, my entire family was watching and laughing hysterically.

@mrbigg777 Joel was not really dead pan, as, early on, the bots were less emotive as well. Deadpan only works if you put the character in scenarios where a lack of emotion is actually required. At that, Joel did TRY to show emotion, but failed miserably at it. Deadpan is more the act of apathy in the face of a situation that calls for emotion, which joel did not do.

The whole who is better Joel or Mike debate is meaningless. All it comes down to is what you personally like. As I have always said, "When a debate or an argument is only about personal preference, it is best just to say nothing at all." Just enjoy what you like and keep your opinions to yourselves, that way no one is hurt and no one is left out. In reality it's hard to compare the two anyway, they had such different styles on not just their riffing but their characters too.
