  • How can you take your self serious if you make a tutorial and forget your tripod.????? And please take care of your framing, it is terrible

  • Um, I didn't forget to use the tripod - I forgot to MENTION the tripod during the video. Watch the video, you can clearly see movement indicative of picking up a camera mounted on a tripod at about :42 ish. As far as framing goes, apparently you don't get paid to produce videos for a living, and I do. My guess is that you're not trying to be helpful, but you're just a hater grasping at any straw you can to be a jerk. Truly sad.

  • Thank you so much for this tip. Exactly what I was looking for.

I do have one question. If I open my iris all the way, how would I compensate if my shot then looks too bright, or over exposed?

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Misty is adorable!

  • Jim, where you been? You still alive? How's the new house?

    -Sandy

  • Cool beans, Jim. Clever intro, tight editing, and a useful message. It's sure great to see more posters take an interest in educational content, especially when they've got advanced skills like yours to apply to them.

  • Eh, you've got to use whatever skills you've got. If What I shared helps at all, that makes me happy.

    Peace!

  • Good dog, Misty. Good dog!

  • Misty is a great dog. Dumb as a brick, but a great dog none the less.

  • Thats pretty neat jim.

what exactly do you do for a living, i kinda subscribed a couple months before your feature but i never really heard mention of what you do.

oh hows lil youtube by the way?

    -nick

  • Hi Nick. I produce videos for a living. Right now I'm also working for a radio station for some extra income.

YouTube the goat is healthy and rapidly growing. Peace!

  • I'm trying to get a camera so I can make videos myself, so I'm watching this avidly and learning a lot! Thanks for posting.

  • Not a problem. Let me know if you need any help. I've got a lot going on, but I'll try to give you some ideas!

  • Wow, I didn't know all that. I learned something. Thank you.

  • No problem :-)

  • i knew you were a genius, jim

  • That reminds me of a quote by Lucius Annaeus Seneca. He wrote "There is no great genius without some touch of madness." I know the madness is there. But the jury's still out on that genius bit.

    Thanks! :-D

  • These vids rule Jim! Outstanding! You manage to post a lot of variety!

  • Variety is one of my middle names :-D

    Thanks for watching!

  • Excellent advice. Thank you! If I ever own a camera, I'll be sure and try that. :)

  • No problem. I hope you get to give it a shot someday!

  • Awesome tip! Thanks for that!

  • No problem. :-)

  • Nice! Thankyou! I was having that exact problem yesterday!

  • Yep, just pull the camera back a ways, and you'll get a lot more definition. Thanks for watching!

  • thanks for that jim!

  • No problem. Thanks for watching!

  • I feel so much smarter now....I think I can rule the world....brb.

  • I ruled the world once. It was boring, so I gave it up for skydiving.

  • Nice tips. Thanks!

  • No problem. Thanks for watching! :-)

  • I love the help Jim. :) Now if you could do one on how to get my husband to buy me a new camera....LOL

  • Well, I know a few things my wife could do that would get me to do just about anything....LOL. I'm sure you can think of something. :-D

  • Oops ignore my last comment saying "Woo first comment"... when i first viewed the video no comments were on, now like 5 are on >.<

  • Eh, such is life. But hey, you were first for a while, and that counts! :-D Later!

  • (Woo first comment)

Sweet, YouTube finally decided to let the video work!

Very interesting... good work as usual.

  • :)

  • ;-)

  • A cheap tripod can sometimes be worse than no tripod at all, so no worries if you couldn't find one. =)

  • I actually worded that poorly. I was usin' my super nice manfrotto tripod with the 503 head on it when I taped that. If not, the wind, the hill, and the 20x zoom would have had that thing all over the place! :-)

  • Awesome tutorial!

  • Thanks!

  • brilliant...it would be good to see you do a video of every effect you have taught us in one

  • Hmmm....Getting ideas for a "Jim Shorts 10th video extravaganza" :-D

    Talk to ya soon!

  • Nice tutorial, thanks for that!

  • You're welcome!

  • Thats pretty cool...Too bad i dont have a video camera..Stupid web cams...Good advice though

  • Webcams aren't all that bad. I use one sometimes. If you ever want to buy a camcorder, I've got some advice to offer in another video, Jim Class Episode 1.

    Peace!

  • Oh thats sweet. I really need a camera but I cant afford one.
