Things were pretty calm until Oscar violently grabbed officer Dominici by the arm, then kneed officer Pirone in the groin. He did get in a fight on the train, the police did respond to it, they did pull him from the train, he did resist being searched, the police had no way of knowing if he had a gun or not, he was NOT handcuffed until after he was shot as he resisted the entire time, the officer chose to shoot in response to the potential threat of Grant having a gun to protect the other officers as well as the other passengers there.

Obviously the Police Officer was under alot of stress and forgot that he was in a crowded place with witnesses. Do we have video of the Officers sprinkling crack on the Oscar Grant afterwards or putting a knife in his hand like they usually do?
Actually, part of his decision making was based on it being crowded. He wasn't just trying to protect himself and the other officers, but the people on the platform. You have to remember, no one knew he was unarmed until after the shooting, that includes the officer. Had he let the officers search him, they would have known he wasn't armed and could have wrestled with him all night. As for the crack, that was found hidden in his butt by the medical examiner, seperate from the police and BART.

The officers had to force him to sit down, to lay down, and to put his hands behind his back. He fought them the entire time and the officer had every right to think he was hiding a gun and when he jerked his hand away from the officer I would have thought he was going for it too. However, I wouldn't have backed up and shot him, I would have pulled his arm up so far behind his back he could have picked his nose from over his shoulder. As it turned out, he was hiding drugs and not a gun, tragic.

@lester5192 They were taken off the train for fighting with a passenger named "Diesel". They were identified by passengers as well as the driver of the train. Things were pretty calm until Oscar violently grabbed officer Dominici by the arm, then kneed officer Pirone in the groin. It went downhill fast from there, including 8-9 people encroaching on officers (3 of whom assaulted officers) and persons throwing things from the train at the officers. Mehserle panicked and drew the wrong weapon.

No, what we are talking about is the facts, not my opinion or your opinion. He did get in a fight on the train, the police did respond to it, they did pull him from the train, he did resist being searched, the police had no way of knowing if he had a gun or not, he was NOT handcuffed until after he was shot as he resisted the entire time, the officer chose to shoot in response to the potential threat of Grant having a gun to protect the other officers as well as the other passengers there.

Actually, part of his decision making was based on it being crowded. He wasn't just trying to protect himself and the other officers, but the people on the platform. You have to remember, no one knew he was unarmed until after the shooting, that includes the officer. Had he let the officers search him, they would have known he wasn't armed and could have wrestled with him all night. As for the crack, that was found hidden in his butt by the medical examiner, seperate from the police and BART.

The officers had to force him to sit down, to lay down, and to put his hands behind his back. He fought them the entire time and the officer had every right to think he was hiding a gun and when he jerked his hand away from the officer I would have thought he was going for it too. However, I wouldn't have backed up and shot him, I would have pulled his arm up so far behind his back he could have picked his nose from over his shoulder. As it turned out, he was hiding drugs and not a gun, tragic.

At what time did anyone find out he was unarmed? The next day on the news? Had he not struggled against the officers and let them search him, they wouldn't have thought he was a threat. And he wasn't cuffed until after he was shot and stopped fighting. The officer told him to lay down and be searched, he refused so the officer forced him down. The officer tried to search him and he kept pushing and trying to break free. He did what he was trained to do, there was no malice. Had he wanted to "execute" Grant, he would have skipped over the search attempt and kicked him to the ground and put his pistol to the back of his head and blew his brains out. Instead, he shot him in the lower back and it ricocheted back up and into his heart. Call it a freak accident

Not at all, only that they were called to break up a fight and when they tried to question them, Grant was the only one that gave them any trouble. The taser was earlier and it was a different officer that was carrying it, Pirone or something like that. He threatened to tase him if he didn't sit down like the other officer had instructed him, that's when he sat down and put his hands up. Skin color had nothing to do with it, the fighting on the train and resisting search on the platform did.

I truly believe the officer thought Grant was fighting to get to a weapon and shot him in the lower back to stop him in order to protect the other officers as well as the passengers on the platform. It was the ricochet off the floor that put the bullet in his heart. Call it a freak accident or an act of God, but that's not where the officer was shooting.
