I am in the National Guard and can tell you that everyone goes through the same 9 weeks BCT (Basic Combat Training) but then after that , your second phase of training (Advanced Individual Training) varies in length depending on your MOS(job). I have seen this documentary around on DVD shelves for about a month, and I've been hesitant to check it out since a lot of times people attempt to make a political point rather than just tell a personal story from the perspective of the soldiers on the ground. This is obviously not the case with this documentary. As a veteran myself, I applaud Miss Scranton for bringing up the disconnect between what reality we see on the ground and what is portrayed in the mass media.

Wake up?? why i turn the TV on and I see Iraqi (or some foreign crazy terrorist where ever they come from maybe Iran or something) suicide bomber killing dozens of people or Sunni and Shia Muslims killing each other over whose version of the quran is better. I don't see american bombs killing not intentionally any way and most defiantly not in comparable numbers!

The strongest support for the troops is, if you speak out againt the war in public and do what ever you can do to end it. The only thing someone can win in a war is peace. All other objectives are drown in the bloodbath.

thanks for the great post. my brother just returned from a second tour with the marines in iraq and most people underestimate the type of situation that he dealt with over there because they incorrectly categorize the type of horror that is witnessed there by the troops.
