Maine Reporter Fired Over Gay Marriage E-Mail

So, he's a Catholic...how does he feel about interfaith marriage? Divorce and remarriage? Atheist marriage? While I'm sure he's not very approving, I doubt he's going after those kinds of marriages the same way he's going after the gay ones. And THAT'S what makes all prop 8 supporters hateful people. Think of all the marriages you don't approve of, and why, and how you go about legislating them...or not legislating them, and the hateful hypocrisy it represents.

I'm very much in favor of gay marriage, but I don't think they were right to fire the guy if he used his personal e-mail account.

What astounds me is people are so quick to bring up religion and persecute it for all of the millions of past slaughters; Inquisition, Salem witch trials, ETC but they seem to forget about the Anti religion, religion Atheism, and agnosticism. Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Polpot. In one Century Anti-belief has murdered well over 80 million alone. What I am saying is it goes both ways. I refuse to be PC, the new religion. Let me do my own and you for once live with it.

Isn't what you're really saying-an attempt to justify your religion? God needs no religion-to prove, or justify Him. And if what you're saying (were) true, that doesn't mean Christianity cannot evolve along with the (social) species. Also you neglect to mention the collapse of Mediterranean Culture (as was). The subsequent Dark Ages, the Crusades & Inquisition. And didn't the genius of science originate in Babylonia/Egypt? And what good is Science to a Religionist who refuses it?

History is clear-Religion, particularly the "Christian Religion" is a Doomsday Cult. These people are dangerous for civilization & futures child. God isnt a Religion. God isnt their hatred & divisionism. It isnt so much what you read, or even say, but what "you do" that matters to God. History is clear that religion has had the effect of civilizing man. If not for religion modern science and the scientific method very well might not exist. The idea of an ordered universe created by a benevolent God to which mankind can strive to be like has been the source of all modern ideas that are now taken for granted that are not all very self evident on their own. Ideas of liberty, equality, and charity run counter to the nature of man.

Is that a joke? Because the crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Salem witch trials, the 9/11 attacks, the Israel/Palestine conflict, the India/Pakistan conflict, the promotion of slavery, and the poor treatment of women all are results of religion. What religion told us women should be treated as equals or slavery should be illegal, or everyone should have the right to believe what they want to believe? Certainly not any of the major Western religions.

Liberty, equality and charity do not run counter to the nature of man. The golden rule is a fairly obvious principle that gives rise to all these concepts. You are obviously very pessimistic if you think all people are naturally against those things. And it's silly considering logic alone will tell you that it's mutually beneficial for everyone to live in a society where liberty, equality and charity are valued.
