  • The windrifter again. I was wondering where was this video shot? What part of the world? I live on a lake in north Idaho, ( lake Coeur d' Alene) We don't get the steady winds that you would find on a coastal location. I can't hardly wait for Spring when the snow and ice melts so I can fly a hull. Take Care and happy sailing to you.

  • @WindrifterMr

This is from Andros Island, The Bahamas. I've been here 5 years now... and can you guess? I LOVE it! (ha)

Make sure to upload some videos of your sailing. Cheers!

  • I really enjoyed your video. I just bought an older H16 and was wondering how hard is it to fly a hull, ( single handed)? You make it look easy but, I amagine that it takes a pretty steady wind without too much wind shifts. I have sailed a lot on mono hulls but, not much on cats. My cat has a single trap but, it looks like that is not always necesary if the wind is not too strong. About how much wind speed in (knots) is required to adequately fly a hull with one person on board , 200 lbs.

  • @WindrifterMr

It was pretty light wind that day. I weigh about 200 lbs too. The Hobie is great for light wind days. However, if it gets above 15 knots, I just go windsurfing.

    Cheers!

  • my dads buying a boat for in the sea, should he get a dart 18 or a hobie 16, i hear that the dart is better but not sure.

  • Love this video too! (Watched windsurfing a few mins ago.) Really enjoyed it. Also learned on a Hobie 16 at Andros. Way cool. We used to fly a hull, trapped out, right onto the beach at the Beach House, just to be cocky. Is it still there? Loved full moon sailing, and just going down to the beach to sleep on the trampoline at night, with bug repellant on of course! Thanks for some sweet nostalgia. STILL miss Andros and AUTEC!

  • Makes me want to get up to the lake and sail my hobie, but I ll wait til my shoulder heals. Great video, good to see someone enjoying a hobie just as they were designed to be :)

  • Just what i was looking for! I have some experience on monohulls, and have built an Opti like boat, and I was wondering about single Handing one of these, and I was just wondering about tacking, but this clears it all up! thanks.

  • Hi, I have mastered winsurfing very much. Can you give me a couple of advices for steppin up to sailing? I am attracted to catamarans, but will be doing by myself. Today i first saw the Hb Bravo. Can I start right on with the Hb 14 or 16?

  • @dekzan You can start on Hobie 16. It's easy!

  • @dekzan If you can windsurf you will find cat sailing very easy. The original hobie 14 is really too small for adults, even for one person. The hobie 16 or 17 are both great for single handling, even in fast winds.

  • Nice job of flying the hull, if you want to show off, but I gotta say, the boat is not the tramp, the hobie IS the trap harness, the rest is just there to hold the harness (and you) above the water. If you have never trapped out, you have not yet flown a hobie cat.

  • @MrHobiecat

The wind was blowing maybe 8 knots... barely enough to get her flying. Right after this pass, it went to 5 knots. Some friends cruised by in their fishing boat and shot the video. I've trapped out plenty but there hasn't been someone standing by with a video camera at the time.

    Cheers!

  • @newnetnerd Ive never been able to get anyone to take photos of my H16 while sailing, much less video. Nobody wants to sit of the end of the pier, or in another boat with a camera, they want to be on the hobie.

  • @MrHobiecat always some expert who wants to poo on your party eh!

  • Wow, dude.

    You have that dialed!

    What a cool video.

  • sweet video

  • sweet video, thanks for posting..I just sold my 25 foot keelboat and am looking for first hobie!

  • nice vid,but wheres your life jacket

  • great video man, you pretty much catched the whole sailing spirit in this video, thats why I like sailing, its not competition, it is all about having a good time, lots of friends of mine tell me that I should start competing, because Im pretty much everyday on my hobie 14, but I dont enjiy the whole technical part of the regattas, my definition of sailing, I think, is the same definition you have, just enjoy a good time.

    Regards from Brazil again

  • What a nice thing to say... thanks!

You sound like a great sailor and should put some videos of yourself on youtube. I bet they'll be awesome!

  • Im actually planning to record some shots next weekend, and then edit the whole video, but basically Im waiting for the winter to start here in Brazil, so the whole sail rush start

  • @dumon13 I love sailing, but only if you can go the directions you wanna go in! no fun being forced round a tight course, trying to pinch up into the wind . I've got a hobie 16 aswel, and its just amazing - Free sailing all the way!

  • DAMN! AWESOME SAIL COLORS! wanna trade for mine? lol

  • I am so jealous of you right now ( I am at work this moment!!!) lol

Hopefully the day aftertomorow I will Hobie sail!!!!

    Best winds to you !!

    Regards from brazil!

PS ( the soundtrack is perfect!)

  • Thanks!

Did you get out on your Hobie?

  • Yes Sir!!!

    lots of fun indeed!!!!

    tks for asking!

I thought that I had record something on my camera... but I just thought...

I will try to do it right next time!!

    Take care dude!
