Can anyone tell me if bacteria encyst? Giardia is a parsite isn't it, and parasites encyst. But why do parasites encyst... not just to get away from antibiotics, lol... but is it part of their life cycle?
@Catherine8raw those arent eyes, theyre nucleii, those arent arms and legs, they are flagella (since the nucleii are monomorphic- from the class mastigophora)
bacteria dont encyst, although some produce spores..
parasites encyst to keep themselves from dying, and to continue their life cycle. They dont get away with antibiotics because antibiotics only affect prokaryotes (we are eukaryotes, and so are parasites, single celled or multi-celled) and their lifecycle is trophozoite and cyst. simple
@geico1212 - Yes, i know there flagella. Hey could you tell me if Borrelia Burgdorferri (Lyme bacteria I have) encysts.... it is a bacteria and I was told it encysts? If it does this means that the bacteria realy is a parasite but it suppost to be similar to the Tremonema pallidum (causative agent of syphilis). I am confused, can you help? I was told the bacteria for Lyme encysts and many sporocetes are produced in the process. Are spores "fungal" TB "Myco" tuberculosis?
Meanwhile until more doctors use this super-test we get to walk around with giardia for a month while they twiddle their thumbs because the stool-samples are negative... Giardia sucks !!!

I love idexx. But u can also see giardia in a direct fecal smear. However the snap test is great if there isn't a proper sample.
