  • The background on my channel is an electro-photograph that I made of my hands using a similar setup. I used a standard ignition coil running on 6 volts thru a glass plate with the Al foil and maybe a black piece of construction paper to block reflections. The film was Ektachrome 64. It was a slightly shocking experience! More so when I was barefoot. Tried using an AC flyback, it worked but was monochrome and not as interesting as the induction coil experiment.

  • I used to own several of these Ford induction coils. I played around with one in the photo lab of my high school back in the 70's, and used it for Kirlian Photography experiments. Instead of messing with film I just laid black+white photo print paper on top of my electrode (Metal foil under an 1/8 inch sheet of plexiglas), placed the subject on top of the paper, then touched the subject to ground it. It actually worked pretty well.

  • I expected a lower frequency - like a loud audible buzz. I didn't know mechanical switching could be this quiet.

  • The capacitor in my coil is a .25uF 400volt unit. One place you can get coils and parts is snydersantiqueauto(dot com)/modeltparts/coilbox.The coils are pricey.

  • @prototype9000 Me too. I've used electronic drivers with some success, but the mechanical interrupters don't let out smoke and stop working.
