  • Conditioning says whatever arises is not o.k. What about me sitting and listening to a christian sermon where the minister says this and that about the world has to change and that the congregation is called to action. What he is saying is conditioning about not letting things just arise, but yet I have to be ok with what he says about changing it.

  • @rovingdesertfox YOU are already ok ;)

  • /user/DesteniProductions

  • she s stupid and those listeners are more stupid than her.......

  • Very intelligent . And you are the only listener that is not stupid ?

  • anjithing anjibody conditionjing

  • This woman is listening through her conditioning. Her ideas about conditioning have conditioned her .Its a SICKLY perverted interaction based on a subtle domination of her who "knows"and a guillable participant.

  • Its not that serious though<3

  • Yes shes really sweet Im with her shes okay.

  • Hej this is presence( now all is happening)

  • I have watched this video so many times. Thank you so much for posting this clip. This clip is very deep and provides tips on how to better practice presence. Consciousness is about okayness, it is what is happening. No fighting, judging.

  • oookkkkaaaayyyyy,, beeeeeaaaauutiiiifffullllll. .. . there is no deep meaning behind anything that is being said by this lady. i kinda like what the 2nd guy that speaks says though, he sounds kind of troubled like the everyone is but seems likehe's just realised it and trying to figure a way around it. i think the point here is just - chill out, take a step back , think outside the box and think for yourself question authority, all that stuff...

  • ...What is "staying with attention"? One is either attentive or one is not. It's that simple... If she is saying "see what is underneath", she is telling us to look for something... What can I say? This is really a meaningless talk that she is giving. What meaning does it have? I challenge someone to point out the profundity of it! I am only criticizing it because so many willingly accept these ideas without investigating or doubting them. This is tragic.

  • I can hear her suffering in her voice, even as she says everything is okayness.

  • Single-pointed focus is a distraction from other aspects of one's presence; this is a fact. If you simply pay attention then you actually become totally aware of things - both your surroundings and your inward mental state. This by no means implies a total lack of danger or challenge. "Okayness" seems like a big escape from life's very real challenges and one is wise to figure this out for oneself. It is totally not obvious that it always feels "okay" to be have presence.

  • Right, that intense focus is the distraction that we are doing every day. She says relax, and see what is underneath. If we are in attention and a bus is bearing down, we are on the sidewalk without a word.

If the boss is going to kill us for loosing the sale and we implicate the technicians for talking too good about our competition, that "challenge" is fabricated only out of thought, but with no real bus that's going to hit us. Isn't staying with attention a better option in either case?

  • But focus complicates life; focus demands effort. If you just pay attention, you become aware of your thinking, your memory, your conditioning, and so on. That takes no effort but rather just the action of looking. Presence only exists when you are observant because observation only happens in the present moment.

  • Conditioning DOES have everything to do with people and things. We are conditioned psychologically, in our thinking and feeling, by what people say and do. We are conditioned by teachers, parents, the media, politicians, and religious people such as yourself who are telling us how to think about things. So conditioning is something that takes place in the minds of people all around the world and therefore, why are you insisting that "it has nothing to do with anybody or anything"?

  • Right, conditioning comes from every thing that we experience, including her words. And it is all stored in our memory. I think what she is saying is that when the memory is not actively focused upon, then this conditioning is not active, and that there is something much more vast that is always there anyway. When she says "first come to presence" it means to me, just relax that insistence on the mind's contents and you will find the presence of your being before any conditioning.

  • That is the place of presence where "okayness is our nature." And who knows if that wouldn't be a potent place to hang out, even if there was a knife at our throat. At such a moment, most important would be to avoid one false move. I don't think that my everyday mind could be trusted with that.

Other videos approach this point at the Youtube group Satsang Discovery.

  • "when the memory is not actively focused upon, then this conditioning is not active" - conditioning doesn't work that way, it isn't voluntary. Its an association triggered whenever a given stimulus is presented. Otherwise it isn't a conditioning!

The "presence of your being before ANY conditioning"? That would be the LACK of presence- conditioning starts within the womb (32 weeks is the earliest studies have found so far)!

    And

  • (continued)

I don't see what's the appeal to reverting to a state of ignorance anyways. What's the point of avoiding reality?

I'd say its about the opposite of achieving consciousness!

  • so true. The entire world population (well at least the western populations) have been thorougly conditioned. "United Nations" "Aids" "Holocaust" just to name a few of the trigger words ;-)

    1 year ago. :-P

  • Why do you say okayness is our nature? What does that mean? You say everything arises as it is. So if someone is holding a knife to my throat, I am just to say "this is okay... this is as it is"? That is absurd! You are CONDITIONING people with religious dogma, telling them how to think about conciousness and so on. What makes you think that Buddhists are not conditioned with their own ideas about "not-okayness"?

  • Fusionguitar has it right-

This purpose of this video's message is to use the very thing it tries to dissociate with!

It's just another fine example of using scientific terminology to give the illusion of authority to something with no scientific merit whatsoever!

  • that's a bit strong... she doesn't claim that it's anything new or innovative, just basic buddhism.

But uh... it doesn't seem like she listens very well.

  • excellent ..it's good you noticed she doesn't listen very well

  • nice thoughts envolving ;-)

  • I haven't found anything so thought provoking in all my searching on Youtube. This should be featured so that others would be more likely to check it out.
