I have 2 say just in that 1 bit ther is a hell of alot of work, i have used photo shop since 2002 or sumfing like that, and that is sum major work for such a small poice of game.
:D if it's what you love, go for it, It's logic dominate, which is a sub category of math. But yeah there can be alot of math depending on what area you go into.
@callistek yeah people told me before i started doing computer stuff that there was gonna be alot of math, but there really isnt as much as i thought (wich is good)
I'm working on a secret project with friends :D similar in scale though. Right now on Feudal empires, I'm going to focus on making it single player for now.
Seems like a lot of work to create all those tile variants by hand that way one at a time. Why not layer some basic building blocks programmatically, using alpha?
Even if doing the combinations at runtime is too prohibitive, generating them using a script by combining layers seems like it would be way faster than all that work you did by hand in the video.
Sometimes that is acceptable, but normally it will make the tiles look 'cheap' In these sheets it's water / nothing, the grass was just to test. But in the final version it's just water, so it can be placed on snow, desert, etc.
:D Thanks, I'm working on a cool video now, I will show a game making process from start to finish :D It will take a while to make though, programming part takes longer than the art part.
The art was in Photoshop CS3, the SQL was in MS SQL Server 2005, the game client engine is in Flex 3.0 (ActionScript3), the XML I think I did it in Dreamweaver CS3, The game server is in C#, (MS visual studio)
Sorry for my English, I live in Brazil and speak more Portuguese than English. "I'm just doing this (the sprite sheet art) because... errmmm.. I can... I have too, nobody else is here to do it."
Since I'm the only person working on the game I have to do everything. :/ which is not ideal. (I hope for pretty art some day)
None yet, due to financial issues I can only work on the game when I have money and nothing to do. I plan on putting a page up on the site soon showing financial support options.
dude ur good!
