Thought I would listen to this fine piece of music for how our weather here in Scotland has been this month of May hasbeen awful with high rain fall and wind and has put me in mind with this music the land of the mountain and the flood !
Aren't there any genuine Scottish classical composers? Seems astonishing considering all the great genuises we've given the world in just about every other field!
You should listen to the all brass version of the this. It ROCKS. and at 4:13, it will blow you away. Just be sure to turn up the volume and get really close to the speakers!!
I was very disappointed a few years ago to discover that the original music was not his - he merely arranged it (though admittedly he did an excellent job, and it won him appointment as Professor at the Royal College of Music at the age of 20). That may explain why none of his other work is known.
This peice would translate to solo piano excellently. I shal have to try and make an arrangement and put it on youotube!

@AryanScot James MacMillan is a leading contemporary composer whose works particularly the sacred are played globally.
Judith Weir another contemporary composer draws upon Scottish folklore and folk tradition for her music and is well known for her operas.
Patrick Doyle on a lesser level is a well known film score composer.

I love this piece of music. I grew up listening to it. The second half reminds me of a horse galloping.

This is an inspirational tune, with a great finish. I also remember Sutherland`s Law, in the `70`s

This was the theme music for the BBC series Sutherlands Law, shown in the mid 1970's
