  • Were those PDP-11s or MC68000s I saw? Either way, very nice!

  • @eMGeeGFX Is a 68000

  • Thumbs up if you were looking mostly on the right ball

  • haha it's funny to think that these were state of the art 3d graphics at the time lol

  • @epit0me I wouldn't say State of the art is an appropriate description. For 1983, these were way ahead of their time.

  • @teknotoast okay - you're practically saying the same thing i am

  • Trying to make sense of the code on 0:31 - I have it freeze framed but it looks like just a console dump of variables J1 to J6.

First line is ### Teach ###

  • This is amazing! So, was this for a computer? If so, that is absolutely amazing!

  • @MustNotRead - anything after 1983 doesn't count. either this guy is a troll or he is just a snob trying to rub his ps3 in people's faces. no shit a ps3 can do better. even a freaking phone can do better, but that is not the point, now is it. I propose we ignore "MustNotRead" cus all he wants is attention.

  • 1983, that was nice though processing power was low this looks amazing

  • This is art at it's finest.

  • Can you people even read? 1 9 8 3. There was no such thing as the Mac or PC. There were no PS2's or PS3's. Of course they can do better. This was more than twenty years ago!

  • HA HA HA HA HA there were no macs or pcs you make me laugh.

there were computers way before you grandpa was born

  • Yes, there were COMPUTERS. Not personalized computers that any household could own. They could be as large as entire rooms.

  • @carpenoctem66 It looks about as good as an Nvidia chip from a few years back!

    Amazing stuff:)

  • @SirFoggy2Doped indeed! I was very impressed with this!

  • @carpenoctem66

1981 - first IBM PC - You fail! but -1984 first Macintosh Computer.

  • @HipHop1981 Ah, I was unaware of this.

I wasn't claiming to be any sort of computer expert though, I was simply insulting the ignorant morons who come on here saying "my PS3 is better" etc. etc.

  • This shows that although computer graphics didn't really take off until the 90's, if you knew the right people, you could get this sort of work in 1983.

I may have cost a lot of time, effort and money, but it was still possible.

  • this was about months of work that times.

  • When one of the balls became a golf ball, it looked like there was some early bump-mapping going on!

  • I think you're right!

  • This commercial would have cost tens of thousands of yen to make!

  • amazing... this was all done on probably 8088 CPUs. i'm not surprised at all that it's possible, it's easily possible on an 8088. just think how long it must have taken to render with the CPU speeds, RAM limitations, etc... lol.

what's really amazing is the people who coded this software in 1983.

  • "My winblows computer can do this'n'that'n'shit"... obviously majority of people here commenting do not know that this 3d graphics was done back in 1983 when bill gates was stealing code from CP/M just to finish DOS and and movies were done on SGI's. Funny how people think that PC was the first computer ever...sad

  • this does look great, but, what about those little 2 min. scenes made by production company's before a movie.like dream works has the water and goes into a guy on the moon.remember the old hbo cgi's?anyways all big company's were doing this back then and the fact is...when you spend millions on a two minute scene just to display a name,of course it will look good,it better.

  • Are you insane? Dreamworks is only about 10 years old. This is 25 years old. What "big companies" are yout alking about?

  • Uhh it is pretty first of all. Second of all it's 1983. Third of all most games should have these visuals.

  • What a bunch of fools are commenting here.

Nothing special about it being from Japan, just what you could do with a powerful computer (which that Panasonic was) during the day. All early computer graphics are out of the USA, mainly: U of Utah, Ohio State, or Los Alamos. Evans And Sutherland, Cranston-Csuri, Robert Able and Associates, Melvin Pruitt, Cohen...

Kinda funny that most of the "Japan is amazing" quotes are in broken English.

  • I am impressed how they did the refraction and the morphing??1983?! jspan always impressing

  • Wow japan has a example for the moph scene. Before they going to use for the kamaen rider, and super sentai series. Before they using the affects for the up coming gaoranger with they using for they using CGI on the gaoranger.

  • Wakarimashita, hai hai hai konichiwa.

  • wow. my windows vista computer can't even do that.

  • unless it has an Intel IGP, your brand new computer could very well do even more powerful stuff, and in real time.

  • Pretty good.
