Looks like a star-pointer. Very powerful lasers used to show people what consellation they are talking about, often beaming 30 miles high... Especially if there was a meteor shower, chances are someone was showing where the most action is.
@floridaroyalpalm Colour can re -act with the different types of mist in the sky to make that effect. If you want to believe it is a UFO then do my friend. But I do think that Aliens are out there, I just don't imagine they've invented air crafts. I think our understanding of intelligent life is different to what aliens might consider.... If there any intelligent life out there it's evolved totally different to us. - Probably doesn't even desire seeing the planet. That's a human trait.
From NJ i also watch the meteor shower last night Me and my wife saw 30 in a hour, What your looking at might be Leo's constellation brightest start Regulus. I saw Jupiter!
I just saw something tonight going really fast but it was really bright with spark stuff coming from it. Weird.

I saw that in Southern California about a month ago, it shined intense purple blue and green, possibly a laser.
