@superbandace metal is known as blues' bastard child lol. plus randy had huge influences from blues and classical music...so you're definitely right in hearing what you did!
@abdulsadiq metal is not blues but they are slightly similar in that metal has blues progressions for example if you didnt already know the intro to the song jump in the fire by metallica is a G minor (think havent played it for a while) blues scale theres 1 of many its only influenced by blues other than that metal is not blues it only originated so your right in some ways but technically no
@TheMetalmaniac18 yes, like i said, "metal is blues' bastard child" lol. and yes, you're right jump in the fire is in a blues scale. another example is a song like black dog...that is so blatantly a blues lick played in a heavy rock way. there are several examples out there. but i never said metal IS blues lol
@abdulsadiq uh yes i believe you just quoted again what you said "metal is blues" lol wow anyway yeah your right black dog is based of an A major scale i do believe its good to find somebody thats not a fuckin idiot and actualy knows somethin about music
@TheMetalmaniac18 dude ... you're pulling a fox news here hahaha. you're not reading the rest of my quote. i'm not saying metal IS blues .... i'm saying it's a decendant of it...that it has a whole lot of influence of it.
and yeah, a lot of people tend to shy away from theory, but I always found it very interesting...always learning!
Im in my 30s now and had a few attemts at the song with no tab or slowing down the solo as it was in the late 80s and we had no internet or fuck all then you had to be ritch to have a tape recorder with a pitch shifter and it was an octave down,,,anys after looking at this video four times this week i had it nailed,i think he thaught it very well unless you were a complete novice,,im into country now pitty cant get videos like these in that field,,,i love this lesson pitty i diddnt have it twen
Maybe cuz D is one of the notes in an A natural minor scale.
The key your playing in that fits for the solo relies on what's being played during the, that is. What chords are being played over the solo and the opposite. Some people even switch from Minor to Major in solos.
It would be nice if you could slow down a little on the solo. And no for all of u people down below I don't suck. Im just having a hard time figuring out what notes he's playing sometimes.
@ellipsis117 You would have a much easier time if you learn guitar theory. The scales he plays are instantly recognizable. They are the Aeolian for the first half of the solo, and when the chromatic runs begin they are: A Phrygian for the first two runs, then it changes to C Mixolydian for the rest. Like I said, make yourself familiar with the Chromatic scales and this solo will be a breeze.
why are people mentioning the "music theory" of this lesson. if you really need to comment on how you "know all of the theory", you're just telling people that you know how to tie your own shoes. this "theory" is child's play. just because he said "diatonic" doesn't mean it's hard theory.
Ok seriously you dont even know this guy ??? o.O he is THE Troy Stetina. He has published many books ( the best books in the business ) and he is known for his good explainations. If you cant understand him i feel sorry for you
this guy is really good at teaching the solo. i was looking around and this is the best video i found. i just wish he used a guitar that standard inlays so it would be easier to see what fret he was on. but as i said, this guy is great at what he does.
thanks for providing this lesson series. for the scalar line in the solo the Bb is not the b6, the current chord is a Bb chord so it's the root. you should relate the intervals to the current chord not the overall key
I have only been playing guitar for 1 and a half years but I take my technique dead seriously, if you don't know the basics then leave this guys video to people who are serious about their playing, cheers man this is great
dudes the problem with people is they think they can just jump into this song like they have been playing guitar for years. this isnt a easy song, so begginers go learn how to play stuff before you nag at this guy.
@plasticsmileindustry yeah dude the fisrt time i even attepmted the intro of this i got lost so i left it for like 3 or 4 monthes now its a peice of cake well kinda
He is not a bad teacher, this is a lesson for people that know music theory and I understood everything that he said and i don't even know music theory so don't be talking about this guy like he can't explain it write.
You have to Buy His books and Videos...They're Really Good, He's Not only a metal Fan but also a Classic Rock and Music Fan...In the Tabs it shows everyhing
dude this is pretty sweet. i couldnt find the right tab anywhere so i looked on here. best video i found, this and video 1. i dont know why almost everyone is complaining, i havnt even been playing 2 years and this was pretty easy to follow.
I may sound clueless, but could someone please explain to me exactly how to perform a pick harmonic? I've never learned. Thanks to anyone who can help.
@menmeo Bear down on the string with your pick, and let your thumb flesh touch the string at the same time...keep trying, it eventually happens and gets easy
Great job! And easy for real guitar players to understand. I can see where coming from the guitar hero standpoint that someone would suck though:-p Shouldnt need to mention any names but that rant below is pathetic. Can tardboy read a chord chart get some experience playing real music then come back. You cant play a guitar for 6 month's part time and have any hope in hell of grasping this stuff.. go find a smoke on the water lesson.
@thismrx "omg you suck at teaching" its fair for all beginners to speak to guitar people trying to help like this. Cold? I've tought many people in my years but none who have spoken to me like this. I think my comment was deserved considering his lame comment to the OP. I never spoke to my teachers with anything but respect and thanks.. this is a different day than I grew up in, pretty sad. If I were teaching him and he said that to me I'd boot him straight out the door, no invites back.
@guitarplayer4real Yep, in my day punks did'nt have the internet to hide behind, when you said something it was to their face and you answered for and stood up for what you said, and possibly got your ass kicked for it.
Every 12 year old on earth now has an anonamous voice and mommy's computer to speak through. Dude is probably over at "Flight of the Bumblebee" lessons bitching at that totally free teacher now...
@guitarplayer4real Very true. If half these young guys could play like they complain then there would be video posts to every comment with awesome performances. I think you should only be able to comment with a reply video post performance, just like back in the day, like you stated.
@guitarplayer4real well some people just really cant understand music theory I am taking music theory next year in highschool but my dad plays the guitar and he does not know any scales or music theory but he can execute Scuttle Buttin by Stevie Ray Vaughan perfectly so I just think you dont really need to know music theory to be good at guitar but you do need it to be a good musician but I totally know where your coming from
everyone whos complaining about him being too fast just get over it. how do u think this guy learned the song in the first place? probly by ear so this is like a luxury being able to watch it over and over on your computer. if its to hard suck it up get better and then learn it
DUDE, YOUR VIDEO FULLFILLED MY DREAM, I WANTED TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE SONG EVEN BEFORE I PLAYED THE GUITAR.... i agree with SageX123, and 5t3Maiden.... I too didn't know the chord, and had to view the video over and over again... but in the end i did it.... Just to learn the solo, and I'm through playing guitar :)
Nice video it was close enough on the harmonics and to the other people your not going to get it perfect every time and to other people that don't know chords learn them first before you try and play this song and everyone is going to play this song different and i agree with 5t3Maiden
jesus what more do you guys want from a video, to hold you hand as well. It's a video play it over and over again and figure it out for youself, or do you want him to play it for you as well. Some people are lazy as fuck
why'd he switch guitars?
