The concept of the girl showing up at the end for me, is very simple. The parents got so wraped up in selfish relationship issues that they failed to see what it was doing to thier daughter. When they realized the damage it was doing to her it was to late.
The whole film clip is a metaphor for selfish behavior and the effect it can have on children during a split up. She didnt really die and when she shows up at the door with that smile, you can see the smile hasnt left her eyes.
John Wetton wrote this about bandmate Geoff Downes. In a 1983 magazine interview, Wetton said: "He was going through a complete emotional turmoil over a girl about a year and a half ago, and I identified so strongly that I went home and wrote the song in 5 minutes. Boom! Sat right down at the piano and there it was. If anything's straight from the heart, that song is."
disturbing video. interesting comcept of the band in some sort of movie recording studio with the big screen behind them. the the fake film clip was very disturbing. I wonder if the video go very little air play in the US. it a very shocking ending.
Okaaaaaay. Thoroughly confused by the ending there. I thought the little girl was gonna run back to her dad, but then it looks like she jumped off the bridge, and then she's in the studio...what the heck?!
@3impersonators The girl jumps off the bridge for sure, classic French tragedy. I always felt the end shot of her was to represent her spirit, but not sure. Either way I blame the whore of a mother.Lol
this song kick ass and this band will always rock and i was glad to be a teenager back in the 80's because if i had to be a teenager now forget about it i would have missed out a million things from the awsome 80's
...I don't know where to go... That smile has left my eyes. umm...don't need it any more TY Asia for great music

Here's how the video came about. I have the CD.

@TheRockerchef I just figured the end shot was meant for the viewers, to reassure us that it was only a video.
The girl might have a child that age by now. ^_^

@3impersonators Obviously, the girl being in the studio must have been the child actress playing Danielle in the movie part.

This is a very well written song. The intricate guitar parts in this song, simply put, touch the soul.

Asia is still around. The original lineup reformed a few years ago. I think they even played this song when I saw them in 2006.
