Trust me, Target did not support MN Forward because they wanted to support Tom Emmer's anti-gay agenda. Target is nationally and internationally recognized for their promotion of diversity in the workplace. Yeah, it was a misstep by Target, something that was overlooked, but the point of the matter is that this action was taken in an attempt to support job creation. Not for Tom Emmer's social agenda. If you don't like Tom Emmer, don't vote for him. Wow..that was easy...

I won't vote for Tom Emmer because he is anti-gay. I won't shop at Target because they support Tom Emmer (reason for support doesn't change the effect) for the same reason. I will vote as a citizen and I will vote as a consumer. Consumer and employee rights should never be held in higher regard than national and state rights.

However the legal rights to marriage equality may be hampered for all LGBT people in Minnesota because of Target's support of Tom Emmer. Target does contribute to charities and is a huge supporter of education but a bad choice by a good store doesn't make the choice less bad "Want business to pay to hurt themselves" expand? Some folks (me) want business to be socially responsible, human over profit.

I was ecstatic when I heard the news today about Prop 8 being overturned on the basis that the anti-gay marriage proposition is unconstitutional. If Target was supporting a candidate that didn't believe in interracial marriage would this be tolerated? I think not. Would people still come to Targets defense and reference that is was a pro-business move with the same scenario above? I think not. This is a bigoted candidate who forms alliances with people that justify death to homosexuals, these are some things that should not be tolerated or accepted. Come on Target do the right thing here.

They have done far more in support of the gay community than this one incident in which a social issue was crossed with a business intention. That said, look at the bigger picture. Yes, Target messed up. The CEO apologized. Target is by no means suddenly anti-gay. Do you get forgiven when you mess up on something? Have you ever made an uninformed decision? Think about that

@dukeljk I don't think corporations should have the freedom to support politicians financially. The legal system holds that a "corporation" has many of the rights of an individual person. A corporation does not exist in the same human framework. A person needs clean air to breathe, a country where police protect people not corporate interest, a person should have the right to love. A corporation only wants the rights to make the most amount of profit it can and will vote with money accordingly.

I believe all people have the right to marry under the government and I do not want to limit their freedom (as a side note, I don't think that right should be forced unto any religious institution, to allow them freedom).
