a family of 4 that makes between 65-140K is middle class. a couple that makes 60 to 120K is middle class. a person that makes between 35 and 75K is middle class.
THe problem lies in the difference between the terms, 'middle income' and 'middle class'. The middle income is covariant with median income (pp $50K / annum). MIddle class refers to a socio-economic construct (i.e., education, profession, familial associations, income, and cultrual values). As such, middle class income probably approximates $250K / annum and higher.
I also want to point out that many successful doctors and dentists make enough to be into the Upper Middle class bracket.That also includes lawyers and anyone else who makes it at or above the $250,000 income level.There are lots of building contractors and entrepreneurs whose incomes could reach that level.
I feel $50,000 is not middle class in TODAY'S economy for a family of 4.
I may be wrong in my observations.By the way,I only WISH I had an income of $50,000 ,Lol!
I think it is safe to say people with a family of four who make MORE than $100,000 a year.People who make more than $250,000 a year could be considered be Upper Middle class and their incomes could go into a couple of million dollars in income or assets.
Upper class,I feel are usually multi- millionaires .The top upper strata of the Upper Classes are the Billionaires .
The Democrats define "middle class" as "as many of these fools we can rob, steal and confiscate from to make them dependent upon US". Just wait and watch. Just like the definition of "rich" has digressed down to $250k and below, the definition of "middle class" will soon be "if you can pay for ANYTHING on your own". And, therefore, you will pay for someone else.
Look at the proposed "services" tax. People are already buying into it with "well, if they can AFFORD it". What is "it"? Anything?
I'm not sure if middle class has an exact dollar range but I think it's basically people who can pay all their bills, save for their kid's college fund, their retirement fund, and have enough left over to have a little fun. I sure as hell know that someone making $250,000 a year is definately not middle class. And it doesn't have anything to do with how you spend your money. If I make 250 grand, and blow it all at the craps table, that doesn't make me middle class, that makes me stupid.
Politicians have no clue, democrat or republican. Middle class are people that work hard for what they have, have a budget, and worry about things like mortgages and car payments.
Obviously, they don't know, as it doesn't apply to them.
Middle class = People who work about 40 hours a week, (and/or) have to in order to maintain a reasonably lifestyle of food, housing, health, utilities, modest vacation, and saving for retirement. Thus, anyone who works at a job (or is self-employed, or retired from working), and makes between $15k and $150k a year is about right.
Issue is, we have too many people not working at all, either poor, or super, super, super rich.
