  • Compares Elaine Caswell to Lady GaGa

Guess what Elaine is the winner

  • THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SONG WHEN I AM IN PATTAYA THAILAND

  • GREAT

  • One of about a hundred awesome JJ songs. This song is a pop masterpiece.

  • Who cares what their wearing ,a nice melody and good movement i think that's what they wanted to convey ,One of the last of thetrue songwriters.Nice song

  • By heck 1984 was a good year. I love this performance but I can't say I'm keen on Elaine's outfit.

  • Wo kann ich die deutsche Übersetzung finden? Oder den Originaltext?

Danke im Voraus für jede Hilfe.

  • OMG, I thought that was Boy George at first!!!! lol

  • marie de marseille, j'ADORE!!!!!! Bravo Mr JO JACKSON

  • Joe Jackson at Wolf Trap, in September 1982, on the Night & Day tour. Wow! I still cherish that memory. A very special musician and a good man. Blessed be.

  • 222222222222

  • I wonder what kind of salad that chick has on her hat?

  • I saw him in 1984 at Red Rocks in Colorado........It was the same tour as this video. WHAT A SHOW!!!!!!

  • i love the saxaphone in this

  • @openmindedatheist me too

  • awesome song

  • "Body and Soul" is such a great record. Still have it on vinyl and pull it out all the time. Takes me back to the party days of the 80's......Joe Jackson live in the 1980's? Are you kidding me???? You just know that it was a killer show!

  • @spd13062 Awesome shows.

  • @spd13062 going to see him live next monday so he,s still very much" alive" and live playing so to speak ;-)

  • For a moment I thought I was seeing Boy George instead Elaine...

  • this should be re-released, stuck in my head for days now....

  • just awesome,what a performance!

  • 1) This song ranks somewhere in my "All Time 200" - as someone downthread said, it just makes me feel so gosh-darned happy!

    2) Part of my happiness derives from that awesome sax duet after the bridge - I just realized that Joe plays the alto sax part. Incredible.

    3) I think Caswell's voice is absolutely perfect for this song. There's just a touch of Lauper-like goofiness that makes her endearing, and she perfectly matches Jackson's own unorthodox vocal style. The harmonies are just fantastic.

  • Oh mamma, mette i brividi!!!! GRANDISSIMO JOE

  • すばらしい。日本人にもっと聞いて欲しい。

  • ...je maudis la grande casserole depuis....

  • can anyone say what this performance is from? It looks like to "cant get what you want" video is from the same performance.

  • Elaine Caswell borrowed this outfit from Boy George....! hehe

  • @Rudeawakening333 She looked better in the normal video. My memory is that she had curly hair.

  • @Rudeawakening333 I wonder from who Joe Jackson borrowed his pants.

  • @Rudeawakening333 No I think she gave it to Him after the tour

  • This is a good song. But Elaine Caswell has such a shrilly, squeaky voice. Couldn't Joe have found someone better to do a duet with? Such as Cyndie Lauper, Belinda Carlysle or even Madonna? They were all big in 1984, but no too big for Joe's record company to be able to afford them for him to duet with on this song.

  • Shrilly but it matches the song.

Madonna? Madonna can't sing at all...

Cyndi would be another style. Cyndi is great and better then Madonna.

  • Madonna is a DIVA, ( & a BITCH)

  • And good performer and a talentless singer...! hehe

  • Madonna is a total slapper with a nasty nasal voice. I couldn't stop laughing at how shit "holiday" was when I first heard it.Then we saw the videos and that is where her "talent" was.Acting like a total skank.

  • He should write a musical for Broadway!!!!!

  • I saw Joe at MSG for this tour. Always thought it was funny that Elaine came out mid-set JUST for this song (yes, she was wearing that hat), then left the stage immediately after and never returned.

  • i knew someone who loved this song - reminded him of his life and made him contemplate about the meaning of life and reality - life's a movie :)

    R.I.P

  • Cool song, he sings god songs.

  • @Fastdogg562 God or good? No matter. Nusuth. To a Muse it's the same thing.

  • @TheTScotRhys lol good songs, yup ur right same thing hahaha

  • i think lifes like a movie too

  • elaine caswell was great.....

  • This is a fabulous song by Joe Jackson. My friend Vinnie Zummo who sings the latest Ringo Starr Tribute song is playing at 2:30 in this video. Congratulations Vinnie. You're an excellent Guitarist and add the perfect touch this song!!!!

  • A mastercraftsman at work.

  • This song makes me feel just one thing: Unexplicably, ridiculously happy!!!

  • Ich genieße dieses Lied jedes Mal auf´s Neue!!!!

  • Joe plays alto sax! That made my day.

  • This is very faithful to the album version. Thanks for posting.

  • FANTASTICO!!! Mi ricorda il tempo che fu..

  • Thank you for posting this. I've been a Joe Jackson fan since Look Sharp came out in 79. This is one of my favorites, and one I've never seen live (saw him in concert 3 times). Again, thanks.

  • Nice duet , Joe! what's the mystery womans name?

  • That is Elaine Caswell.

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • im pretty sure that it is really Joy Askew

  • according to the album it,s Elaine Cashwell ;}

  • worst thing about the 80's: even talented people making great music dressed like complete tools

  • A lot of the time the songers, bands etc used to walk into the Record company offices and come out the other side looking like dorks...Talk Talk had the same thing with all white suits until 83/84 when they went to seed and wore more there own casual stuff.

  • I was born in '84 haha! I grew up on Joe Jackson, though...great song!

  • great duo

  • Man, I remember hearing that "it's '84 now" line. That was almost 25 years ago! SHEEEESH!

  • one of the most beautifull song in the world.

I 'll always love this song.

My English is no good but I hope you understand me.

  • My Brother LOVED this song. Now he is gone.

    R.I.P.

U will live in our hearts

  • Badwolf182, your brother had great taste.

  • bosielskza - thanx for ur sweet comments - very thoughtful and kind ;)

this song makes me cry still tho :(

  • Badwolf, happy x-mas...

  • yes...so what???

  • so cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's '84 now. Man I'm old.

  • what a nice pop song. nice sax too

  • Great live performance!

  • Thanks a lot for this great video

  • I like this song very much, but damn, the lady really looks ridiculous... just look at hear hat...:o

  • I love this song too! and yes, i do find the hat kindof ridiculous, but she did sing amazingly in the recording.

  • I like the hat xD

    yeah, they're great =D

=> tonight: Joe Jackson in "Karlsruhe"

  • whaha I've never ever seen this video! Its so funny! I like it lol. Joe is good!

  • Have always loved this tune, but can't listen to it without thinking of Elton and Kiki Dee.

  • A sweet song from one of my fave JJ albums Body & Soul. In fact, probably my fave duet of all time! Really pulls the heartstrings.

  • Nice song!

  • many thanks for this video-post. it's allways a great pleasure to hear The Man and more to watch at this ...

  • i'm thinking about how this would have sounded if it had been recorded by nick lowe and carlene carter. for years i thought that THEY were the ones that did it....

  • Grand homme , grand musicien , grand interprete , simplement un immense artiste pas reconnu à sa juste valeur , intemporel et lunaire , hors du temps et des courants , Thanks mister Joe Jackson !! Marc T.

  • thanks for this video.

  • I remember this song when my dad and my grandpa played this song on their turn table:) because of this song, I was inspired to learn about music and how it is important for my life as a studentwriter/singer and a family member... i miss philippines soo much

  • The Philippines will always be there... maybe you'll get to go back someday.

  • great song, and she's weaing an interesting hat.

I know it was the eighties but per-lease.

  • New CD released yesterday called "RAIN" by Joe Jackson!

  • すきでしたこの曲

  • I saw this video on tv that year and I thought that it was very gorgeus.

To see it again, after all these years, made me very, very happy!

    Muchas gracias cacukjoko.

  • Saw the Big World tour following this one. I was give or take on Joe Jackson initially, but my interest grew with each album he spit out, from "Body and Soul, NIte and Day," and "Big World." When I saw him on the Big World tour, my fandom was solidified. This guy puts together the tightest band possible with each genre of music he performs. This video demonstrates his knack for that, as well as his fabulous live performances. Great video, though strange fashion choices by FM singer.

  • She went to her closet to choose some clothes, and sang "....it's not so easy, it's '84 now..". I described this once as the best damn song ever to bring the sunshine out at night. Their duet sends shivers all over my bod, not just my spine

  • great voice and great talent,

    a really underestimated artist !!!!

  • There is a God ! This music proves it !

Bless you 4 posting this !

    Great up!

  • The thing that I prefer in Joe Jackson's song is that they got a "speed" tempo, but nice melodies!I really can't say "I prefer this song,or this one", I think I like nearly all he have singed(the ones that I don't listen no more is that I've listen to them too much, but I think I've liked them all!

  • Great performance by a grossly under-rated artist

  • after 20 or so years, i started to lose my hair like Joe but my interest in his music grew more.

  • Actually bought this as a single when it came out. Still sounds good today; great sax break. Thanks!

  • excellent. toute ma jeunesse. j'adore.

  • Once recorded on a mono radio-recorder, then lost tape. Now rediscoverd here - THANKS!

  • Elaine is The Real Deal

  • Just you & me in the - Happy Ending

  • Better a happy end then none , don´t you think ?

Hopefully our story on this thing will have one the next time , you know ..

just you and me in the end

  • I was taking a walk with my girlfriend the other night, and this song came back into my head after so many years...HAD to find it on YouTube, and was shocked to see it here...THANK YOU!!!

  • The harmonies in this song are really nice. Cheer for the posting.

  • hey gymman, thanks for posting the same effin' post in every joe jackson song on youtube. gayman, maybe...

  • Thanks for the video! Did you all know that Squeeze, from the same genre and era, is going to be touring North America in the Summer of 2007?

  • I've seen Joe live many many times, but haven't seen this performed before. Thanks!!!

  • what the hell is elaine wearing?

  • No kidding, I thought she was Boy George at first glance. Still, she sounds great.

  • haha boy george. yea there's no arguing that they both sound great

  • great song..remember playing this over and over, time to get the cd version

  • I heard Elaine Caswell sing live in 2006 and I feel she still sounds as good as she does on this 1984 performance. I think it's a real shame that I am one of only a few people who would be able to recognize her unique singing voice and style. Thanks to whoever uploaded this. Years ago, I looked around for footage like this of Elaine Caswell and didn't find it, gave up. Now it appears on youtube. How perfect.

  • yuh. it's a shame caswell never had a hit record of her own. she really hasn't even achieved the status of a "cult" artist. i don't think she's ever recorded a solo album. either she lacks ambition or the record companies have lacked interest in her. or both.

  • My brother bought the record and I'd play this song over and over. I thought this was so much better than everything on the radio at the time. It was. This should have been a bigger hit.

  • actually, it's understandable that this song wasn't a big hit. the public has never liked power pop. hard and fast songs like "happy ending" are too "unsubtle" to attract a mass audience. the members of the public, then as now, liked their love songs sweet and slow. so joe jackson wasn't able to pose much of a threat to lionel ritchie on the charts...............

  • Well, on the other hand, there is really little subtlety in the kind of aggressive schmaltz of Lionel Ritchie, if you ask me...

  • ok. bad example. substitute smokey robinson for lionel ritchie. or better yet, stevie wonder. the point still stands, though. the american public is more sophisticated than some people give it credit for being. the music-buying public appreciates nuance and texture and (at times) react negatively to their absence................

  • @antneon most of his stuff should have been a lot bigger than it was or is....

  • love this song...

  • Very nice! I never saw this before. I also didn't know Joe could play the saxofoon as well, cool!

  • Thanx for this rare piece. I bought the single when it came out and was annoyed when it just missed the Top 40. I was 15 at the time!

  • I know the feeling! That Body and Soul album was one of the best '80s records together with A walk across the rooftops.
